I wish it actually had been super woke since it's getting so much flak for literally just being Superman.
Fantastic movie though.
At this point anything that doesn't literally praise ~~Hitler~~ Trump is considered woke, so Superman was super woke.
I have the opposite opinion. I think it was woke in some pretty bold ways, but I just found it kinda boring. I like what they did with Superman, I like the baravia stuff, I like the whiny bitch boy Luther (most of the characters really), I think they did some neat things visually
It's very comic-like, but to the point I struggle to feel anything. I thought it was ok, it had good moments, but it was very hard to suspend my disbelief. I don't understand the rules of the world, at every moment Superman was infinitely strong but also constantly on the verge of death... They did the overpowered protagonist trope really badly IMO
But I did like the messaging. It's very woke, and entirely unapologetic about it. I really liked how they showed it through story in a very heavy handed manner, but never did a preachy monologue... The message was not subtle at all, but it didn't come off as condescending at any point
I think it was very bold and based, but as a movie... Meh
Really was a great movie. Telling who thought it was political, and who hated it.
