Why did he make the tattoo look like an ugly-ass patch if he didn't intend to evoke the military, then? Obvious backpedaling is obvious.
embroidery/sewn on patch tattoos are a thing, if u google it they are almost always pop culture slop
speculating here but as an aesthetic trend, it feels like an outgrowth of the millennial lib/redditor cooptation of the metal/crust battle jacket (imagine a battle jacket covered with like ricky morty and NASA patches)

I have nothing against tattoos. There are lots of beautiful and meaningful tattoos out there. But no other art form so reliably turns out such an impressive volume of utterly hideous shite. Tattoos are a magnet for every bad instinct imaginable: clumsy technique, poor taste, terrible judgement and hideous political ideologies.
