autism and stimming
I am an autistic girl, and I want to hear how other autistic girls deal with stimming. I have been constantly stimming my whole life and its too much. How do I at least manage it? I want to do it less overall and stop doing some of them. Also oh my god the label autistic trans girl fits me so well (still with the "trying to mask" debuff).
I shake my hands when I get excited or stressed

I pull hair out... (Not on my head thankfully) Tap my index finger against my other fingers in specific patterns. Hum or make up beats and do them with my mouth, Stroke my arm, tap my fingers on my leg. Used to clench my teeth..autism and stimming
Congrats on the new labelAre they harmful stims? Do they result in you hurting yourself in any way? If not it might not be worth stopping em tbh. I pretty much just stim uncontrollably whenever tbh. Leg bouncing, twiddling a lock of my bangs, making stupid fuckin meowing noises, the lip picking is bad tho
By "too much" do you mean like, they occupy too much of your time? That would kind of suck tbf. I do kinda hate losing time to just inert stimming...

Thank youThey just take up too much time and are too addictive/constant. Its not just like sad stimming, its just constantly doing it for no reason. Some of them I'd be okay with but some I do need to stop doing or cut back on.

If there's a way to stop stimming Idk what that way is tbh. You could maybe do other stims to replace some, but I think you have sort of a required amount of stimming, sorta? Not sure tbhspoiler
Yea that's fair, and maybe its not that bad. I've just been feeling like I do a lot of autistic things and not doing some of them would be nice. But maybe it is a normal amount.spoiler
I mean if it's inconveniencing you or disrupting your routine it makes sense to want to do em less. Idk if there's a "normal" amount thospoiler
I've had destructive stims and to try to stop I would try to change one for another.Especially if I'm aware I'm doing one I don't want to do..
You can also get stim toys to help with thst
