Anybody else have a bit of a rough time with epilators (other than the pain, of course)? I find that often, especially on my arms, the hair seems to grow back pretty quickly. I'm thinking that while some of the hairs are being pulled out, others are snapping, therefore making it similar to shaving them. Is there any way to get them to come out instead of snapping, or should I just do upkeep with the epilator in hopes that these hairs will eventually come out?
I had the same experience when I tried epilating a while back. I was getting worse results than when I shaved, and the hairs grew back just as fast. I gave it two months before accepting that epilating just wasn't for me. I have zero interest in giving it another try, but I bet I'd work better on me now, since my body hair is a bit thinner now thanks to hrt
My experience was that that epilating dry instead of in the shower made the hairs less likely break. I’ve also heard that taking a warm shower can hydrate your skin and make it easier for the hairs to come out, so I think the best time would be after a shower when all the hairs have fully dried, but I just did it whenever and it seemed to work. It’s also very important to make sure you don’t have any goosebumps cause they can make the hairs harder to come out. Also remember to follow the instructions and hold the epilator at a 90° angle and go against the grain, while holding the skin taught (at least that’s what my epilator said to do).
When epilating I noticed that I could kinda feel a difference between when the hairs were actually being pulled out vs just snapping off and I could use that to tell if it was working or not. Another thing you can do to tell if it’s working is to look at the hairs that get pulled out and see if they have the roots attached, which look like little bulbs at the base of the hair
