Ima make a sweeping statement that this won't do shit in the long run. Please make me eat my sneakers.

Looks like you gotta eat your sneakers. Please do it. For democracy.

It’s kinda amazing this game even did so well. Kernel level anti cheat. Broken as fuck at launch. Just stuck in menus for hours. Arrowhead honestly lucked out they even got this much popularity.

[–] Evotech@lemmy.world 18 points 4 months ago

Helps that the game is fun, and after the launch issues. Very stable for the most part.

[–] ultratiem@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It's amazing how so many players are fine with rootkits masquerading as "anti-cheat protection" 🤷‍♂️

[–] aStonedSanta@lemm.ee 3 points 4 months ago

I wasn’t even aware until after I had installed it tbh. My own fault of course but I had already tried out valorant so..

[–] iegod@lemm.ee 3 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

The game did the most basic thing and they nailed it; it's fun. The rest is noise.

[–] lorkano@lemmy.world -5 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

I played his game for two hours but it seemed like progression system is so barebone that playing is pointless and also high level people were just using airstrikes and killing everything before you even shoot

[–] Harold_Penisman@lemmy.world 22 points 4 months ago (2 children)

I don’t know much about Helldivers. Why the sudden spike in negative reviews?

[–] Berttheduck@lemmy.ml 55 points 4 months ago (6 children)

They (Arrowhead + Sony) decided to make ps plus sign in mandatory on pc, a change as it was optional since release. Ps plus is not available in like 2/3rds of the planet.
Thereby locking out loads of people who have been brought the game.

They (Arrowhead + Sony) decided to make ps plus sign in mandatory on pc

Just to clarify, PS Plus is not required to play Helldivers 2 on PC. PS Plus is the upgraded, paid version of the PSN subscription. A free PSN account (which is not the same as a PS Plus account) is required.

I know I'm nitpicking, but this is a big issue at the moment for a lot of players, and I want to make sure everybody's making a properly educated decision with their money.

[–] fluckx@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Lmao if they required a PS plus sub that would actually be hilarious :')

[–] exocrinous@startrek.website 5 points 4 months ago

That's the long term plan they won't admit. And that's why it's important to fight these kinds of changes. They want to take enough inches that they'll have a mile.

[–] entropicshart@sh.itjust.works 26 points 4 months ago

And forcing an account on PC players that bought it through steam, which has no need for their servers to collect even more data.

A simple google search shows Sony’s inability to keep any of their user data secure, so it only adds yet another avenue of your PII to be leaked and abused by third parties.

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 23 points 4 months ago

“Everything was working fine and we couldn’t have that, now could we?”

[–] Daxtron2@startrek.website 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It was stated on the steam page that it required a psn account from before the release. It was disabled during launch week because of technical issues.

[–] aStonedSanta@lemm.ee 8 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Aka they knew we’d lose our minds during the server issues and everything if logging in and waiting on PSN approval was required also.

[–] Daxtron2@startrek.website 3 points 4 months ago

Yep, glad to see they're backpedaling on the decision

[–] ours@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

And Sony going full Sony with their cheeky comment suggesting between the lines to violate their own terms suggesting players can register while "on vacation" to one of the supported countries.

From the company that can't make a good movie with the Spider-Man IP and gave us Morbius and Madame Web... More brilliant decisions.

They (Arrowhead + Sony)

Pretty sure Arrowhead had nothing to do with it. Why would they give a shit?

[–] Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca 13 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Arrowhead made the deal with Sony to have them handle publishing (customer support, server infrastructure, etc) while Arrowhead gets to focus on developing the game. Part of this deal was a requirement for players to have/use a PSN account.

Arrowheads CEO knew of this requirement at least 6 months prior to release (by his own admission) but bypassed it temporarily to get the game out.

At the same time, Sony as the publisher allowed the game to be sold in regions that don't support the PSN network; meaning players/customers in those regions are now locked out of the game they've purchased. Sony could relax this requirement, even just limited to those that purchased before the requirement was enforced, but so far they have not.

[–] helenslunch@feddit.nl -1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Just because they agreed to it doesn't mean it was their decision.

[–] Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca 6 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

It was Arrowheads decision to disable/not implement the PSN integration, despite knowing well in advance of release it would be required to fulfill their contractual obligations.

It was also Arrowheads decision to partner with Sony, while knowing the terms of that agreement included a requirement to implement PSN integration.

[–] helenslunch@feddit.nl -1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It was also Arrowheads decision to partner with Sony

You're intentionally misrepresenting the situation. You can choose to partner with another company. That doesn't mean everything you agree to was your decision. You know this, I know this , everyone knows and understands this, you're just playing mental gymnastics so you can throw them under the bus.

[–] Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

No, I'm not.

I'm also not saying Arrowhead is entirely responsible for the situation.

As I stated above; Sony, as the publisher, was responsible for allowing sales in regions they could not service.

Sony could also relax their requirements, but despite our distaste, aren't obliged to.

Arrowhead is not faultless either. They created a partnership, signed an agreement and did not follow through with their side of said agreement. They should have had PSN integration working before release, but they didn't.

Sony isn't the 'bad guy' for wanting what was agreed to. Though they should have been more diligent on the distribution end. (and should 100% be responsible for refunds in regions they can't service).

[–] helenslunch@feddit.nl -2 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Yes, you are. We were not discussing responsibility. Or fault. No one said anything about Sony or Arrowhead being completely responsible or without responsibility.

We were discussing whose decision it was. And it was entirely Sony's decision.

[–] Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Sony can't just decide solely at their digression which games require PSN integration and which ones don't. That is a joint decision between the developer of the game and Sony.

Sony can't just walk into Coffe Stains office for example and demand all players of Goat Simulator now require a PSN account; Coffee Stain would have to decide to agree to that.

Arrowhead didn't have to agree to it, but they did. Now they have to deal with the consequences of that decision.

[–] helenslunch@feddit.nl 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Arrowhead didn't have to agree to it, but they did

Of course they did...

I don't know why you continually refuse to acknowledge the difference between making a decision and agreeing to allow something. AH has nothing to benefit from this. They didn't ask for this.

Since you want to repeatedly harp on irrelevant points and clearly have no interest in an honest discussion, I'm gonna call this conversation over. Goodbye.

[–] Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 months ago

No they didn't. They could have negotiated different terms, gone to a different publisher, became their own publisher.

This is the route they decided to take. I'm sure there were plenty of other factors tied to that decision, but it was still entirely their decision to make.

I don't know why you continually refuse to acknowledge the difference between making a decision and agreeing to allow something.

That would be because agreeing to allow something, is a decision.

A partnership with Sony and the terms that come with that were not forced upon Arrowhead, they decided to agree to it. Plain and simple.

[–] VelvetStorm@lemmy.world 18 points 4 months ago

I feel really bad for arrowhead.

[–] the_post_of_tom_joad@sh.itjust.works 11 points 4 months ago (1 children)

geez this game was hot shit and i almost bought in. Glad i procrastinated.

[–] drislands@lemmy.world 23 points 4 months ago (1 children)

The game is still good. If this gets resolved in a good way, I hope you give it a go!

[–] Cqrd@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Sony literally doesn't give two shits about anyone but themselves, so seems unlikely it's going to change, sadly

[–] TastyWheat@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)
[–] Cqrd@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 months ago

Yeah, that's really surprising, I'm glad they came around!

"We're still learning what is best for PC players and your feedback has been invaluable."

The PR person who wrote should get their teeth kicked in. What's best for PC players is not have to retroactively create a new CONSOLE ONLY account months after the game launched. Especially in countries where PSN does not exist. That's what's best for PC players Sony. If you need me to tell you, fire your entire company.
