They say any time God closes a door, he opens a window

[–] YarHarSuperstar@lemmy.world 36 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Isn't that more like sympathy?

[–] g_the_b@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You are correct. It IS sympathy. Sympathy acknowledges the situation. Empathy acknowledges their feelings, more like "I can imagine how this situation makes you feel."

I'd imagine empathy being that they would emulate the feelings of those like the woman. I fully expected him to get into a panic and start crying.

Let's call Captain Hindsight next, I am sure he will have some good ideas.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 12 points 1 year ago (2 children)

"Kid shouldn't have been in the fire. Well, my work here is done. Captain Hindsight, AWAAAAAAY!"

slowly turns and walks away

[–] bitwaba@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

That's Captain Obvious.

Captain Hindsight would point out leaving your scented candle burning unattended in the bathroom was a bad idea, or something like that.

Slightly different.

*maintains eye contact and moonwalks away"

He does have hindsight, after all.

The link doesn't work for me, so in case anyone else has trouble:

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I've been noticing bugged images more often over the past week or so. I wonder what's up.

[–] COASTER1921@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Same. The preview works but when it loads fully it's just broken. I'm using the connect app but it's probably some buggy metadata.

[–] moistclump@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Stop trying to FIX! I just want to feel heard.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

We don't work that way!

[–] nifty@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Nah, Empathy Man would make sure the building is up to fire code and has fire escapes so the kid has less chances of getting stuck in that situation

[–] angelmountain@feddit.nl 5 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Discussion in all my relationships: "I just want you to listen to me, not try to fix the problem!". I think I'll just go for the guys next time I hear that...

[–] 0x0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 year ago (2 children)

They're only saying that because your suggestions aren't good enough. Keep trying to solve their problems, you'll get it eventually.

[–] xantoxis@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It also might be he's not assertive enough. It's not enough to tell them what to do, you also have to pressure them constantly to take your advice.

[–] MindTraveller@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

tbh the only reason I told my girlfriend to stop giving me advice when I'm upset is that she sucks at it. She only gives me obvious advice I already thought of and it's really annoying.

[–] YarHarSuperstar@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

I mean, that is a legit and valid criticism/request. Have you ever tried just listening?

[–] feedum_sneedson@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

damn check out the jugs on that broad

[–] JoYo@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

compassion > empathy

[–] dadGPT@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Thoughts and prayers man.
