Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

It really shows how much Reddit represents a vocal minority. And how much of it is most likely astroturfed.

My Ukrainian flags in the rich town next to mine index never lies

As those flags came down, so did the public support

Good to see the libs coming around to where I was two years ago.

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml 40 points 3 months ago

too bad 100s of thousands of people had to die in the process

Wow I can't believe that the majority of Americans are now tankie Russian bots

Do they want the conflict to end as in "we recognize that prolonging the conflict will only lead to more suffering so we should negotiate a deal between Ukraine and Russia" or do they want the conflict to end as "russian subhumans must evacuate Ukraine immediately and let them reset their borders to the ones prior to 2014". Because one of those is an actual serious opinion and the other one is shown by every Lemmy lib who wanders into Hexbear for more than 2 minutes. The latter opinion is also seemingly shared by Zelensky and Co. as they keep having these peace summits without inviting Russia, which seems like wishcasting more than anything.

It seems like increasingly the former. I think it's important to keep in mind that terminally online libs on social media aren't actually representative of the general opinion.

do they want the conflict to end as “russian subhumans must evacuate Ukraine immediately and let them reset their borders to the ones prior to 2014”.

Idk what the people asked meant, but the questions 1,3,4 clearly suggest that people making that poll meant that option i quoted.

de-logicYes, Ukraine has no serious chance of coming out of this with anything remotely resembling a victory and the immediate brokering of peace has been the only sensible path forward for the past two years.

Fortunately Democracy™ isn't determined by something as vulgar and pedestrian as "what most people want".

If it was we'd call it something super undemocratic like "a people's democracy"

Democracy of the working class is authoritarian!

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml 12 points 3 months ago

to be fair, they never specify democracy for which class

At this point I want to just see the signing ceremony, where at the end Putin reminds everyone "you could have gotten this exact same deal in March 2022."

This war now is basically to salvage the legacy of the Overpromoted Comedian, and the west as an entity. Anything less than a fantasy victory that cedes everything west of Vladivostok to Kiev will be evidence their obstinance cost thousands of lives.

[–] Tankiedesantski@hexbear.net 12 points 3 months ago

Idk if it's politically feasible for Putin to offer the same deal as 2022. He needs to show gains for lives lost and treasure spent to the Russian people.

They would get way better deal in march 2022 and infinitely better at any point between 2014 and 2022.

Salute to the 6% of Yanks and 3% of Euros who fully support Russia's special military operations.

[–] SwitchyWitchyandBitchy@hexbear.net 14 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Why do the totals add up to well over 100%?

Nevermind I'm dumb and didn't read the fine print. The participants were allowed to select two options.

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 3 months ago

The wording of questions 1,3,4 clearly suggest that the "negotiated settlement" is just Russia withdrawing.

Also love the explanation what "western Europe" means in the small print.

now let's see what the western state media says should happen to Ukraine. shock, surprise, etc. it doesn't represent the majority
