/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ **8. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

In my car, shotgun is responsible for mapping/route research, communications, and cargo management; in exchange for handling these responsibilities, they get to choose the music.

[–] Pelicanen@sopuli.xyz 38 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Driver does however always have the right to veto the music.

[–] Draegur@lemm.ee 12 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Indeed! If one does not like the music, one may withhold service in one's responsibilities, and if that's the driver then we ain't going anywhere; if it's the copilot then the going will be less convenient. Everything's better when we can all agree on music!

[–] sartalon@reddthat.com 18 points 4 months ago

Yup, copilot responsibilities.

[–] MadMadBunny@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 months ago

Unsure if you’re too generous or if I’m being exploited as shotgun….

[–] marlowe221@lemmy.world 47 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Surely I can’t be the first person to point out that Data is not the “driver” in the sense that he is not at the helm, right? Right???

Data is at Ops - the closest thing the TNG show had to a science station - because he was the Spock-analog.

Basically what I’m saying is that Geordi/Wesley/Ro/unnamed officer (depending on the season/episode) gets to pick the music, not Data!

[–] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

And the reason why he isn't actually at the science station is that Brent Spiner didn't look good in blue.

We know the rules of the road apply in Picard's Enterpsie because there's a bumper sticker outside the main shuttle bay that says "Dilithium, Felicium, or Latinum; No one one warps for free."

What kind of music does data listen to?

You might be quick to answer "Electronic"

We have been shown he listens to all kinds of music. At the same time.

In this ONE instance, I think it's okay to ignore the rules. Although if data wanted to change the music, can anyone really stop him?

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 19 points 4 months ago

Data: "Hm. Music, you say?"

0.758 seconds later

Data: "Ok, I've just finished 'Music' "

[–] Philippe23@lemmy.ca 17 points 4 months ago

Anybody else spend way too long trying to figure out why there were umlauts over the "n" in the second panel? 🤦🏻

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 13 points 4 months ago (1 children)

That was during that weird period of the 24th century where the only two types of human music anyone listened to were classical and jazz.

It didn't last long, thankfully.

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

But I love classical and jazz!

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Hey, I mostly listen to 30s and 40s jazz, but it was like rock didn't exist on TNG, let alone something like rap or reggae.

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago (2 children)

It's a missed opportunity to not see Worf casually listening to rock/metal in his quarters.

I guess they were thinking that classical and jazz seem a little more timeless?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 12 points 4 months ago

I think it was more likely a licensing issue. Most classical music and many jazz standards are public domain.

I don't know what Abrams' company paid the Beastie Boys for the right to use Sabotage, but I guarantee you it wasn't cheap.

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 7 points 4 months ago

Worf's jam was Klingon opera in DS9

[–] MikeOToxin@lemmy.world 12 points 4 months ago

Wait... Star Trek/Supernatural crossover?!

[–] verity_kindle@sh.itjust.works 11 points 4 months ago

Driver can delegate music or podcast control, but reserves the right to get control back at any time, copilot is like a DJ who has to take requests.

Whenever I look at Data I see Matt Mercer.

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I can see it. Maybe the nose? The eyebrows?

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

i think his expressions resemble him as well

[–] teft@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago (2 children)

What’s with the weird font?

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

I found this one elsewhere, and it looks like it's been pretty distorted =(

(Edit: found a clearer version to replace it!)

[–] platypode@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 months ago

That's dedication to the craft

[–] platypode@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (2 children)

This whole meme looks AI generated. What's with the face behind Picard? Or Data's eyes? Or any of it, really, once you look closely?

Edit: the original meme has since been replaced. This comment is obsolete.

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

These look like familiar shots to me, so I assumed this image has just seen better days...

[–] nxdefiant@startrek.website 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Awww I was going to make a "That's just what Yar looks like now" joke but you fixed it

[–] MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Now I want to see the original.

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago (3 children)

Lol, here's the mildly melted one again.

[–] teft@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago

Tasha looking like the Quiznos mascot.

[–] nxdefiant@startrek.website 5 points 4 months ago

ha! it's even better the second time.

[–] StrongHorseWeakNeigh@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Don't you insult The Picard Maneuver like that. He makes half the content on lemmy

[–] teft@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)
[–] StrongHorseWeakNeigh@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I'm obviously not being serious

[–] teft@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Sorry, i read pretty much anything without a /s as serious since you can’t be too sure in today’s media climate.

When sailing, Pilot gives the orders.

When on land, Captain gives the orders.

[–] OpenStars@discuss.online 4 points 4 months ago

Authority flows downhill though - isn't it the manager who (when credit is assigned anyway) is "driving"?

[–] Donebrach@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

yall realize Data wasnt the conn officer right?

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Even the last season of Picard seemed to forget that Geordi was the pilot in season 1.

There's this whole sideplot with family strife because one of his daughters decided to be like their dad and become an engineer, while the other one rebelled against him and wanted to pilot ships. I thought they'd eventually point out that they're both following in his footsteps, but they never did.
