Sylvia Rivera, born on July 2 in 1951, was a Latina American queer rights activist, member of the Gay Liberation Front, and community worker from the state of New York.

Rivera, who identified as a "half-sister", participated in demonstrations with the Gay Liberation Front. With her close friend Marsha P. Johnson, Rivera co-founded the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR), a socialist group dedicated to helping homeless young drag queens, gay youth, and trans women.

At different times in her life, Rivera battled substance abuse and lived on the streets, largely in the gay homeless community at the Christopher Street docks. Her experiences made her more focused on advocacy for those who, in her view, mainstream society and the assimilationist factions of the LGBT community were leaving behind.

Rivera died during the dawn hours of February 19th, 2002, at St. Vincent's Hospital, of complications from liver cancer. Activist Riki Wilchins said this of her: "In many ways, Sylvia was the Rosa Parks of the modern transgender movement, a term that was not even coined until two decades after Stonewall".

Watergate? That shit was above water baby, aged like fine wine. Apparently, Nixon did nothing wrong.

If you become president, you can start referring to Gitmo as Gottem. Send anyone there you want as long as it's official business, fuck it who's going to stop you?

Is the irony poisoning leaking out of my brain and dripping from my eyes or is that what was basically decided today? Cause it looks a lot like the subtext has become text. i-voted

Please president Xi, my people yearn for freedom. Please send DF41 ICBMs to liberate my country from the oppressive Biden regime.

Being attracted to tall men is actually a very convoluted "i hate my husband" joke if you consider the correlation between height and early mortality.

There is something about House of the Dragon. It has a higher budget per episode, and reuses a lot of the same sets, yet it looks worse than GoT, like there is this weird filter and lighting on everything. I've seen people say it looks kind of like a porn parody of GoT

Checked our mainstream Canadian news about the scotus thing and Global just started it with 'the US Supreme Court has brought the seat of president closer to a kingship'. Now, yes we are at this moment technically aiteral kingship, on paper the English crown still rules us, but it is kinda nice to see reporting that isn't just about Trump and more about how it's a really dangerous precedent for presidents.

I just received the following tiktok:

"Gay Donald Trump conviction son OR Chinese Shinzo Abe assassination rave daughter?"

it's as unhinged as it sounds, but it revealed that a Chinese nightclub (probably hundreds, but i've only got one image) had a celebratory rave when the doohickey was unleashed

Can anyone give me a recommendation for an area to visit in Prince Edward Island (Canada) for an overnight trip in July? I'll be in my ancestral Maritimes homeland then, and was thinking of doing an overnight trip to PEI while I'm in the area. I'm okay with a "touristy" recommendation so long as there's some natural beauty to see without committing to a long hike.

Honestly in terms of automation and productivity for coding and data jobs, I'm actually not convinced that AI will be a bigger improvement than various APIs and tools maturing. Like so many examples my coworkers show me are already 3 API calls or clicking like a "plot this for me plz" button. I think the good times might be in the past for a lot of STEM jobs, but the productivity tools that made our labour less required predated llm adoption

I had a very strange trip today, because I didn't feel high at all but in retrospect I was not sober. I'm currently with three friends, two of whom smoked weed with me, one who didn't. We got it from a place that my friends said had really potent weed, but when we were smoking we didn't feel anything. I felt a bit of a buzz a bit later, but that went away.

Then we spent the day together and I kinda went a bit insane without realising it by falling romantically in love with my friend (the one who was not high). Like, I had found her attractive before, but she's a) in a long-term relationship, b) not attracted to me and c) someone who I really love as a friend, but never romantically before. But everything she did, I was like "oh my god she's amazing" in my head, I felt so happy to get her attention and make contact with her. But those are never feelings I had before, and now I'm sober again and I don't feel that way. Like what the fuck was that.

Also the weed hit me about six hours later really hard, and then I actually felt high, and then I very promptly passed out. Really weird experience altogether

Really funny how chuds are always about “BUT THE FOUNDING FATHERS!!” “What did the founding fathers want!” Which, yknow is moronic on its face, but setting aside the whole who gives a shit about what a bunch of slavers in the 1700s thought, I don’t think the people who ostensibly/purportedly did this whole thing to rebel against a king ever thought, “yea and let’s make the president completely above the law like a uh.. like a king!”

I hate having to explain the code base to my manager who's 2 levels above me. We're both self taught, I know they're busy but I can tell they haven't spent time understanding the code base because they ask me such basic questions. It urked me that they volunteered as our team architect too when their design choices aren't thought out.

I'm left out of project meetings and it stresses me out getting half baked requirements and told to just copy previous code to get it done quick. Suggestions I add get shot down as "not now" or just flat out no or it'll be too much and I feel held back.

But lately I'm pushing back and I think it's getting on their nerves, or maybe it's just my own nerves bubbling up. Either way, I can't say I'm not learning from the experience

my god I can't wait for 6 hours from now when I'm no longer at work. The menu today is a pain in the ass but I'm 40% done with most of the annoying parts. But I still have a lot of time consuming stuff to do and have basically done 0 prep for the vegan dish (eggplant cacciatore)
