Sylvia Rivera, born on July 2 in 1951, was a Latina American queer rights activist, member of the Gay Liberation Front, and community worker from the state of New York.

Rivera, who identified as a "half-sister", participated in demonstrations with the Gay Liberation Front. With her close friend Marsha P. Johnson, Rivera co-founded the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR), a socialist group dedicated to helping homeless young drag queens, gay youth, and trans women.

At different times in her life, Rivera battled substance abuse and lived on the streets, largely in the gay homeless community at the Christopher Street docks. Her experiences made her more focused on advocacy for those who, in her view, mainstream society and the assimilationist factions of the LGBT community were leaving behind.

Rivera died during the dawn hours of February 19th, 2002, at St. Vincent's Hospital, of complications from liver cancer. Activist Riki Wilchins said this of her: "In many ways, Sylvia was the Rosa Parks of the modern transgender movement, a term that was not even coined until two decades after Stonewall".

My partner performed for a billionaire last week and said that even the rich people she was playing with were shocked. I hate it here so much, why have we let this happen?

Can anyone give me a recommendation for an area to visit in Prince Edward Island (Canada) for an overnight trip in July? I'll be in my ancestral Maritimes homeland then, and was thinking of doing an overnight trip to PEI while I'm in the area. I'm okay with a "touristy" recommendation so long as there's some natural beauty to see without committing to a long hike.

The Marxist Unity Group would make me seriously consider actually joining DSA if I wasn’t planning on leaving the country.

Really funny how chuds are always about “BUT THE FOUNDING FATHERS!!” “What did the founding fathers want!” Which, yknow is moronic on its face, but setting aside the whole who gives a shit about what a bunch of slavers in the 1700s thought, I don’t think the people who ostensibly/purportedly did this whole thing to rebel against a king ever thought, “yea and let’s make the president completely above the law like a uh.. like a king!”

Look the porn bots on twitter are bad and all, but it's a bit goofy to complain about all the "hardcore pornography" in the comments when it is actually all extremely softcore, you just kind of look like a prude

I had a very strange trip today, because I didn't feel high at all but in retrospect I was not sober. I'm currently with three friends, two of whom smoked weed with me, one who didn't. We got it from a place that my friends said had really potent weed, but when we were smoking we didn't feel anything. I felt a bit of a buzz a bit later, but that went away.

Then we spent the day together and I kinda went a bit insane without realising it by falling romantically in love with my friend (the one who was not high). Like, I had found her attractive before, but she's a) in a long-term relationship, b) not attracted to me and c) someone who I really love as a friend, but never romantically before. But everything she did, I was like "oh my god she's amazing" in my head, I felt so happy to get her attention and make contact with her. But those are never feelings I had before, and now I'm sober again and I don't feel that way. Like what the fuck was that.

Also the weed hit me about six hours later really hard, and then I actually felt high, and then I very promptly passed out. Really weird experience altogether

I like the slime anime (Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken) despite it being isekai trash and also despite the current season being about 70% meetings by runtime. It's just Nice seeing the MC, Rimuru, turning enemies into friends and making a country out of the dispossessed monster people of the world. The worldbuilding is interesting and extensive, and people do things for coherent material reasons. Also, Rimuru is very gender.

It's funny how push notifications are so annoying I just instinctively click no whenever my phone or browser asks anything. Fuck off, don't want it.

What do we think of this build Hexbear? I wanna build it vertically a bit more but trips to the Nether to collect blackstone are getting tiring. I even built a tunnel bore to mine for me but it went into a lava pit.

The plan is to put an array of cobblestone generators in here and use them to make rail, so I can connect my base which is 1.5km away via Nether highway.

my god I can't wait for 6 hours from now when I'm no longer at work. The menu today is a pain in the ass but I'm 40% done with most of the annoying parts. But I still have a lot of time consuming stuff to do and have basically done 0 prep for the vegan dish (eggplant cacciatore)

Ugh I fucked up dinner slightly

content warning: meatloafI made two batches of meatloaf because the giant stand mixer can only do 30-40Ib before it flings shit everywhere and I put some tomato paste in the first batch but forgot to put it in the second batch deeper-sadness I realized it right after I pulled it off the stand mixer but it's very heavy and I didn't wanna put it back

Oh well

bit idea: make a video essay about the USA but put traditional american cultural music in the background (kid rock)

Bureaucracy is annoying but sometimes you get a really nice person helping you putting in way more effort than you expected and also giving more than you ask for and then it isn’t so bad meow-coffee

Dora and the Lost City of Gold was a chore to sit through on a portable dvd player while the power was out.

It’s a fish-out-of-water story like George of the Jungle, Addams Family, and the Brady Bunch movies. Except Dora is obnoxiously meta and her Sneako-lookalike cousin Diego is now the guy who’s too cool for Dora.

I find it hard to believe that Dora ten years older would still act like a 6 year old child. It makes sense with the other movies because those characters have grown and the younger cast always accepted who they were and were still children.

And of course her arch-nemesis is a virtue-signaling feminist who goes on random rants about misogyny over the smallest things. It’s clear that she’s meant to be an “easily offended” feminist archetype.

I know the reason to make it was every fan fantasy of a “dark” and “sexy” grownup Dora existing but this isn’t even that.

CW: ME, THINKING ABOUT MEAT AGAINi wonder if dried/cooked /dried cooked salmon could be turned into flakes and used as a sort-of substitute for bonito flakes

i really don't know I don't eat seafood, I don't like it, but I think the fishy umami flavors might be kind of important for certain foods

Even in a pure fantasy libs can't go whole hog. They have to hedge. Emphasis mine.

I am so tired of the already elected saying that things hinge on the next election. Do more now and run on it. If I was president the day I learned that crimes were legal for me I might act on that knowledge and get the Supreme Court in line.

Dog Day Afternoon was a good film and the story behind it even more so. The guy who held up the bank robbery really did marry a pre-op trans woman and the media smeared him as gay for it.

His wife was sent to a psyche ward for being trans and the bank robber put her in his will with enough money to pay for her surgery. As the cops drove him and the hostages to the airport where he would eventually get set up and arrested, crowds of people threw shit at the car and shouted the f-slur angrily at him.

I always appreciate when a film highlights a historical event that I either didn’t know about or had little knowledge on.

Not sure if my misphonia triggering more easily is linked to me just getting older and crankier or if they are two separate, unlinked phenomena.

If you ever want me out of a room ASAP, just bounce your leg up and down for 30 seconds or clang some silverware, I will leave a cartoon dust cloud.
