I never played the original, but I really liked the remake. WTF... I mean I really shouldn't be surprised with how fucked the gaming industry is, but I was really looking forward to seeing the entire series be remade in a way that made sense rather than some shitty FPS with microtransactions.
Also there still might be some hope for survival horror. I started Still Wakes the Deep, which has been good so far. Then again I think there was some trouble with its studio and there were devs that were laid off so... maybe not
If you're on PC you can get Dead Space 2 for less than 5 bucks right now from the summer sale. It was more linear and action-y than the original but still within acceptable limits and overall a great experience
