I like a few non-political sublemmies from lemmyworld because they are big. But the political ones are so toxic they literally allow citing mein kamf and dehumanizing Russians. Isn't it hypocritical for their admins to accuse us of "negativity" when they literally allow racism on their instance? The commenters on their defed post call lemmygradians hateful, I think that's projection

Liberals are against all forms oppression except those that they like (speciesism, Russophobia, Slavophobia, Sinophobia).

Liberals are against all forms oppression except those that they like (speciesism, Russophobia, Slavophobia, Sinophobia).

I like to phrase it, "Liberals are against all forms of oppression except the status quo."

More accurate still, "Liberals are against everything except the status quo."

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 44 points 3 months ago (1 children)

They hate all forms of oppression except the current form. Just as they oppose all wars except the current one.

[–] AmarkuntheGatherer@lemmygrad.ml 16 points 3 months ago (1 children)

And the next one of course.

[–] REEEEvolution@lemmygrad.ml 16 points 3 months ago

Which will then be the current one.

[–] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 18 points 3 months ago

Liberals are against all forms of oppression in theory not in practice.

Hate and negativity = critical of white supremacy and imperial hegemony

If they think that is hateful then I don't mind the deferation. There is very little to be gained by interacting with people who think 70% of the world is subhuman.

[–] rando895@lemmygrad.ml 17 points 3 months ago

I say this a lot, but interacting with those people isn't for those people. It's for the passive onlooker. It's well documented that being exposed to the same information/idea repeatedly can make you believe that idea. And apparently (recently learned this) negative gossip can be completely derailed by a single dissenting voice early on in the gossip.

So, if possible (safety, mental health, emotional well being etc. willing) pushing back against these anti-social opinions in public spheres can prevent the spread of them.

Don't give the fascists any platform. Let them know that nowhere is safe for them and their hate.

FYI, that screenshot was from a thread on Lemmy.zip. That said, your point stands and I've seen far worse on .world. The .worlders have a tendency to drive me away from .ML posts too because there tends to be so much chauvinism coming from that instance.

Ultimately, I think it benefitted us, but I think it also drove them to be more like Reddit, which is what they wanted.

Edit: For those who may stumble upon this and think OP was exaggerating about this sort of drivel being directly from Mein Kampf...

Never forget that the rulers of present-day Russia are common blood-stained criminals; that they are the scum of humanity which, favoured by circumstances, overran a great state in a tragic hour, slaughtered out thousands of her leading intelligentsia in wild bloodlust, and now for almost ten years have been carrying on the most cruel and tyrannical regime of all time.

Furthermore, do not forget that these rulers belong to a race which combines, in a rare mixture, bestial cruelty and an inconceivable gift for lying, and which today more than ever is conscious of a mission to impose its bloody oppression on the whole world.

Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf

Dang, wish I'd known that sooner so I could've called out people I've heard paraphrase this. Thanks for adding the quote!

The liberals you're referring to a cowardly and insular. They would rather remove the people that give them cognitive dissonance than confront their inconsistencies. It should be no surprise that they are mostly settlers and PMC Euros, a mix of entitlement and semi-education that maximizes arrogance.

They are so afraid of hexbear that their admins pre-defederated while saying they only do so as a last resort. Their userbase, domesticated animals they are, easily went along. They even thanked them, lmao.

[–] GarbageShoot@hexbear.net 21 points 3 months ago (3 children)

HB does fine have never been federated with them. I honestly assumed they were already defederated from you all. Yes, the reason they gave is obviously a fig leaf, they're a bunch of liberal cowards.

[–] MeowZedong@lemmygrad.ml 20 points 3 months ago

They were federated with LG until the Reddit influx. I think the thought of HB federation made them scared and that was carried over to LG since it was the first time many of them had regularly interacted with "tankies".

[–] sleeplessone@lemmy.ml 9 points 3 months ago

The defederated from Hexbear as a preemptive last resort.

[–] JoeDaRedTrooperYT@lemmygrad.ml 19 points 3 months ago

Glow world sucks.

[–] dirtybeerglass@hexbear.net 19 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Their reality is defined by CNN and Washington Post. It’s a thick shiny bubble and they don’t know they are in it .

You can only talk with people like that for so long before it goes up in flames

[–] frauddogg@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 3 months ago

After all, decent people don't resort to genocide to get their point across.

[–] 666@lemmygrad.ml 16 points 3 months ago

I love the random dislikes you all get. I see it on almost every post about .world or talking about liberals. It's like pissing in an ocean of piss. Occasionally, one of the brain-dead idiots will make a post on here and get dragged. They should do that more instead of pissing in the ocean with the one anonymous dislike on every comment in a thread.

[–] frauddogg@lemmygrad.ml 16 points 3 months ago

The erasure of storm.front was only a good thing and I ache to see other feds scratched the same way because I'm not convinced .worlders haven't set up in the places we haven't scratched out for their rank shitlibbery yet

[–] sleeplessone@lemmy.ml 13 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

The only time it's appropriate to cite Mein Kampf is when pointing out the parallels between the Nazis' settler colonial extermination campaign and Amerikkka's settler colonial extermination campaign. Also:

Isn’t it hypocritical for their admins to accuse us of “negativity” when they literally allow racism on their instance?

That's a waaaaa👶 tabboutism!!1!1

[–] stmcld@lemmy.ml 11 points 3 months ago

I desubbed from the political sublemmies from .world after finding myself enraged more often than not at their reddit like behaviour. My mental health was honestly better after that.

What gets me is that they gloat about how they're better than reddit, but they're exactly the same.

Try to bring facts to them and you're a Russian/Chinese/take your pick troll or tankie or whatever excuse they're using now.

I honestly tried debating and educating with what little knowledge i have, but the chauvinists are not interested.

Not going to lie, their reactions to facts were demoralising, but I'm glad i desubbed from them in the end

[–] nephs@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 3 months ago

This is why I opted for a lemmygrad account for the long run.

Any instances banning lemmygrad are not worthy to read my shitty hot takes. And I don't want to spend my time with them, anyway.

[–] ttttux@hexbear.net 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I use lemmy.world a lot and the most extreme community there is one against religion of all kind. however this is just my experience
