So like.... I don't need my preferred substance to get through the day. I think all the days I go without it kind of prove that.

But sometimes I just am done dealing with the week and want to spend my remaining free time smoking a bowl and listening to Sci fi and fantasy lore videos so I can pretend I'm chilling somewhere near the Anduin or on the holodeck.

Damn, if holodecks became real, humanity is basically over.

100%. Except I've moved completely on to edibles. My supply last 20x longer and my lungs don't feel like an ash tray.

Learning how to make your own edibles was the best move I've made in a long time. Just pop a couple after dinner, and it hits guaranteeably after the kids go to bed, and I get to enjoy the rest of the evening just relaxing.

Edit: Gummies. I make gummies.

I wish edibles worked for me... my poor lungs :(. Even vaporizers are wrecking em

[–] Transporter_Room_3@startrek.website 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Have you tried saying the magic words "these edibles ain't shit" after half an hour?

In seriousness, that's odd that edibles don't do much for you. I wonder if it's a dosage issue or if there's something different about your digestive system. I guess the former implies the latter...

Yeah, I've bakes my own with 2oz's, made my own butter, tried legal tinctures, had cannabeers, and was gonna try some pill form.

Apparently you can be missing the enzyme to properly break it down in the stomach? An I must have that cause I've tried every dosage under the sun :(.

Personally I vape, but I do like edibles. I need to stop vaping as mY primary source, I've been noticing a decrease in lung capacity beyond what covid did. I did not enjoy biking long distance last week.

I'm pretty good at baking, and have always wanted to try my hand at making edibles, but I think I'd rather try and find some chocolate chips or butter or something that I can use in a normal recipe first. I make a mean chocolate chip cookie.

I highly highly highly recommend making gummies instead. I purchased gummy molds so I know EXACTLY how much I'm dosing. They take like 10 minutes to make (but a couple days to dry). You can't burn them, and if you fuck anything up, you can just remelt and pour again.

You can you make a half cup of oil last like 2months. Do it with the right weed, you have a clean, consistent, amazing high.

Edibles don't work for me or I would definitely switch at least partly. I just get tired and way too high at high doses and nothing from low doses.

Yep. Same here. Except weed gives me panic attacks. But I just had (am having) the worst Monday ever and I am the boss at my job and since I'm having the worst Monday ever I said fuck it, put my phone on do not disturb and started day drinking... Basically told my service manager it's all in your hands today and he knew exactly what I meant. Now I'm floating around in my pool with a beer in hand and saying fuck it. I'll regret it tomorrow, but that's a future me problem, not mine. I wish tomorrow me good luck.

God speed you beautiful son of a bitch!

It helps but it still makes me panic. I was an everyday smoker for years and then after one really bad mushroom trip (out of a hundred) I can't handle it anymore at all. It's like something got rewired that night and I'll never be the way I was before.

In capitalist America, self medication is cheaper than therapy and prescribed drugs.

Wouldn't be so bad if there was no rest. I feel like we're expected to always be doing something. How can you afford to pay the bills and keep a minimum of cleanliness, like clean clothing and a pest-free domicile, otherwise?

Or maybe I'm biased because I am so close to experiencing caregiver burnout.

Oh well at least I got pockets of 10-15 minutes to zone out before getting back to it.

[–] cmrn@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

I unironically need to relearn how to do that

I love Endorphines, Melatonin, and tbh Serotonin also works really well for the real life simulation.

I have had worse experiences with LSD.

Btw, never tell psychologists you take drugs, when it is not relevant.

That is awful advice. Your doctor and psych should always know everything you are taking perscribed or otherwise. They literally can't rat you out and they need that information so they can predict any potential drug interactions. There are also conditions like bipolar and schizophrenia which can be strongly effected by certain drugs and your doc/psych can advise you on that and how to most safely use your substance of choice.

If they are treating you different or giving you worse care because you use drugs then you need to see someone else. The vast majority of medical professionals subscribe to the school of harm reduction if yours don't then they're just shit.

[–] YarHarSuperstar@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

Not all doctors are that interested in helping drug users. Just saying. It's not always wise to tell them every detail. Like you mentioned there are some shitty doctors out there

[–] boredsquirrel@slrpnk.net 2 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

I get how that advice may be dangerous, I will remove it. BUT

Your doctor and psych should always know everything you are taking perscribed or otherwise.

No, they dont need to know you use Cannabis to calm your mind, if you have ADHD and all they will give you are literally stimulants to work better.

This is highly dependent on the drug you take and the things that go wrong in your brain.

This scentence is sooo standard, "prescribed or not", yes prescribed of course, but no they dont need to know everything.

They literally can't rat you out

This is not true either. If you visit one to get a diagnosis, anything you say could end up in the one paper you get, which you then need to give to every doctor or psychiatrist to get medication.

These might be sensible things, or simply not relevant.

Example: ADHD is one of the most self-medicated cognitive differences. This self medication often doesnt work well, is illegal etc.

Cannabus is only legal here for a some months, there are no optimum levels and extremely little studies on compount degradation in the body.

When driving, 1ng/mL blood is still used, which could mean that after 3 weeks or more abstinence you may still fail.

This could mean you dont get medication, after waiting for it forever.

There are also conditions like bipolar and schizophrenia which can be strongly effected by certain drugs

Yes absolutely, and this is an important reason. BUT you know what the psychologist told me?

"Cannabis has a tendendcy to increase likelyness for psychoses, ADHD meds can do that too. So if I would prescribe them, I would want a blood test".

This is like 1+1=2. There is no evidence and no studies on this, just guessing.

This is crazy, because what I mentioned, Cannabis calms the body (while also being far from perfect with a potential to really increase psychoses likeliness), ADHD meds stimulate so much that people dont want to eat, Cannabis makes people hungry (or more, focused on the body, I often feel really sore and want to do sports).

Both have a potential to cause psychoses in predispositioned people, while having effects that are opposite of another.

So yeah, the generalization is pretty harmful. But in that specific case, it was really good that I just blacked out these lines and saved myself from that trouble.

then you need to see someone else.

Lol, in fairyland maybe. In Germany you can be very happy if you get a "medication prescriber", even though assisting therapy would of course help a ton.

The vast majority of medical professionals subscribe to the school of harm reduction

If they mandate to stop using a calming drug, to prescribe you a stimulating drug, I disagree.

It is a danger for them to prescribe that, as theoretically there is higher danger, not because of actual studies (and humans are so different that I think generalizing here would harm a lot) but because 1+1=2.

So if it is "just" ADHD they would prescribe nothing, to "reduce harm".
