I assume that’s printed because there may be cases where nuts may get mixed in with the peanuts, which are a legume, and not actually a nut. Also, corporations sometimes have to say weird shit so as not to get sued.

My shampoo bottle literally says "gluten free." I honestly don't understand that.

[–] Moobythegoldensock@lemm.ee 6 points 2 weeks ago

That’s just marketing for idiots. You just laughed and bought it anyway, but a startling percentage of people probably bought it because it said that nonsense on the label.

Gluten can be used in shampoo to make it more sticky.

[–] Kraven_the_Hunter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't see the value of sticky shampoo.

[–] bstix@feddit.dk 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

You would if you tried unsticky shampoo. It would be way too fluid, drip right off and get in your eyes.

So it's a thickener then? Sticky is like a melted marshmallow, molasses, or asphalt sealer.

I use solid shampoo in general, but when I previously used liquid it always lathered right up and did its thing. Never noticed anything sticky about it.

People can be deathly allergic to peanuts, legume or not, and that tends to coincide with allergies to nuts.

There are regulations that say foods that may have nuts must be labelled that way because of that.

There's no reason for the regulations to add clauses like "unless the name of the product has 'nut' in it" because it's just simpler for everyone to be consistent and put the same label on everything, no matter how "obvious" people who won't have to go to the hospital if they eat the wrong thing think the name is.

PHONE NUMBEİRS

Your statement is now null and void due to clerical error. Your data are going to be shared with the world, whether anyone wants it or not. Thank you.

I mean, they never sell YOUR stuff. You made it THEIR stuff by uploading it to Facebook. Because you agreed to the terms and conditions. Enjoy.

The sovcit of social media... lol

I dont think that people are surprised that facebook or google sell the data but more at the amount and detail of not only collected data but also what conclusions are made based on that data.

They will even put you in a political orientation box, based on your online behaviour, even though you dont have one. They will estimate your choices and preferences on any given matter, based on what others with a similar behaviour have

I was personally not ok with that.

[–] Stamets@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm not okay with it either but I am not even remotely surprised that they harvest that amount of data. It's why I deleted my account in like 2015 or 2016. The only way they make money is advertising and they can only do that by being more and more targeted. If you're not paying for the product then you are the product.

[–] PiJiNWiNg@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

10 years ago i might have agreed with that, but these days even when you pay for it you're probably still getting harvested.

Sure, but you have a better chance of not being the product if you're paying from a service that's not from one of the biggest companies.

Peanuts aren't nuts (they're legumes) but they're probably packaged in the same place as nuts.

Next you're going to tell me that a coconut is not a nut.

Maybe if Chris here stopped purchasing my data, Facebook would stop selling them

Or like the warning on my corded electric shaver- "Do not use underwater."

Makes me sad that I can't shave in my tub while I'm making my morning toast.
