Shkreli claimed on a 2024 podcast that he had "burned the album and sent it to like, 50 different chicks"—and that this had been extremely good for his sex life.

I find that statement suspect.

Imagine needing to give women someone else's mix tape to get them to have sex with you.

Tragic and sad.

[–] GBU_28@lemm.ee 38 points 2 months ago

You just roasted like half the music industry

[–] friend_of_satan@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Haha, amazing burn! Second hand street cred.

[–] Doom@ttrpg.network 12 points 2 months ago

With all the money he has too ridiculous

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

I handed girls my mix tapes in the 80s and they were all someone else's work. Get on my level!

The fact that Wu Tang made this thing is gross. Fuck that art collector bullshit.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 37 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Article said that they made it as a statement about the value drop in art because of digital markets. I hadn't known that, so I kinda respected it more than before I knew that.

[–] YtA4QCam2A9j7EfTgHrH@infosec.pub 53 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Seems like motivated reasoning to me. Making a statement while leaving most of the people who made you, poor folk who like your music, without the music but you with millions of Pharma Bro Dollars.

From wikipedia

“It's an uncomfortable subject to most of the guys, so we don't really discuss it too much. The process of the thing being made was never told to us. We were never told what it was. It was never supposed to be a Wu-Tang album. We were recording and being paid to do a certain amount of records by a guy whose name I don't want to mention. He took all these verses—some of them were old verses—and put them altogether into a compilation of Wu-Tang songs and marketed it as a Wu-Tang album, and a single copy of a Wu-Tang album. We all had a problem with it because that's not how it was described to us.”

—Method Man in 2024 on recording Once Upon a Time in Shaolin.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 20 points 2 months ago

I think it was RZA and some dude named Silvaringz or some shit that made the decision without the rest of wu-tang approving. And they were not happy.

It was a money grab with an album that they all admit is shit. I can't really be mad at them for openly grifting a piece of trash like Shkreli.

[–] BruceTwarzen@lemm.ee 7 points 2 months ago

The statement would be to make the album and then not sell it to the next rich cunt.

[–] capt_wolf@lemmy.world 28 points 2 months ago (2 children)

This just in, shocking news folks, piece of shit Pharma bro is still a piece of shit...

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 24 points 2 months ago

It's kind of funny though. This guy was shitty but like... A 2/10 compared to Elon. Some of the shit he did was funny in an obnoxious trollish way. Fuck me but I wish he was the worst we had to deal with currently.

[–] Omgpwnies@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

He's a POS for sure, but this whole case seems like they're trying to blame him for them not doing their DD. He a) owned a 50% stake in the copyright, and a judge found that gave him permission to make and distribute copies as he sees fit, b) He said quite publicly that distributing it was his intent, c) He didn't try to hide the fact that he distributed it, and d) all that happened before his conviction. It should have been plainly obvious that there were physical and digital copies made and distributed before the auction took place.

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 25 points 2 months ago (1 children)

THAT Veronica Vaughn is one hot piece of ayyyce. I know from experience.

[–] darkpanda@lemmy.ca 18 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] Samvega@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 months ago

All ace's are hot. The fun part is we don't want to have sex with NOT_RICK because we're ace. That's the part of their post to disagree with, they don't know from experience.

[–] CptEnder@lemmy.world 25 points 2 months ago

God be has an incredibly punchable face

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 25 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I find that statement suspect

He gave them digital and copiable files that would still be worth a shit ton of money each time they copied it...

Like, the same circle of people that would know he had it and gives it out. Would know who else would pay for it

I'm honestly surprised they don't change the valuation of it to zero and hit him for the amount he used it to take off what he owes.

He's potentially made any copies worthless.

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I think the guy that owns it is an nft shill so I hope it’s worthless, and I say that loving Wu Tang

[–] magic_smoke@links.hackliberty.org 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Gotta be real, why would you as a fan want anything other than that album to be freely available for everyone to listen to?

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

I don’t think I do want it to be unavailable, I guess I am just uncomfortable with anything Wu tang put out to be considered worthless. I suppose they already got their bag for it though

[–] magic_smoke@links.hackliberty.org 10 points 2 months ago

Just because something is free of charge doesn't mean it isn't worth anything.

I'd consider the air I breathe to be pretty valuable.

[–] venusaur@lemmy.world 25 points 2 months ago (2 children)
[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 28 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (3 children)

That's what I'm screaming. If "50 chicks" have a copy, where's the leakage? Mean to tell me none of them gave up the MP3s, not even for cold cash? None of them bragged and got made an offer?!

And here we see the obvious issues with conspiracies...

[–] Crashumbc@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, given that they were probably high dollar prostitutes. The first thing they'd do is call TMZ...

[–] manuallybreathing@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They'd prefer sex worker, prozzi has a real negative connotation

[–] nonailsleft@lemm.ee 2 points 2 months ago

They'll prefer what the customer wants them to prefer

[–] Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 months ago

All I've found so far is 1 seedless torrent and a couple clips of it playing on his stream :/

[–] GBU_28@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] kautau@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

So in a bunch of e-waste graveyards

[–] GBU_28@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You'd be crazy to throw a good iPod away

[–] kautau@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago

I absolutely agree but I feel like the Venn diagram of “throws a good iPod away” and “chicks that Martin shkreli is texting” will form an eclipse, if not a perfect circle

[–] bhamlin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Pretend to be a girl well enough and he'll send it to you.

[–] EleventhHour@lemmy.world 20 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Back in my Reddit days, as soon as it was posted that he bought this thing, about 1000000000000000 comments on every post of this news article postulated that he would do exactly this.

Like, duh

[–] gencha@lemm.ee 18 points 2 months ago

Sounds a lot more expensive than regular prostitutes

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

I find that statement suspect.

Why? Dude is definitely laying pipe simply because he is wealthy. Remember that reporter who covered the trial and interviewed him in prison, she started a relationship with him and immediately divorced her husband. Then Skreli dumped her the moment he got out. That broad definitely only gave him head to get ahead in life.

[–] Hacksaw@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 months ago

Can you imagine being married to someone, having a family with them, they get a really cool project at work that exposes them to some billionaire. Then they realise that a short relationship with a billionaire will get them further ahead in life than a lifetime of being with you and they drop your whole family just like that. There is nothing you can do because it's true, you'll never be able to offer them anything close to what they have access to. Convincing them into staying with you means fundamentally holding them back, forcing them into a life of regrets and what ifs.

Fucking brutal.

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago

Shkreli claimed on a 2024 podcast that he had “burned the album and sent it to like, 50 different chicks”—and that this had been extremely good for his sex life.

I find that statement suspect.

One of the recipients responded positively, which increased his lifetime sexual encounters by ∞%

[–] Brkdncr@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

The value of that album is measurable until he copied it. Once a copy is out then it’s worth significantly less.

[–] Bangs42@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I mean, everyone has a type. Even Manson had a fanclub.

Still, 🤮.

[–] ipkpjersi@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 months ago

I mean, I don't think I'm getting a fanclub any time soon lol

[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 8 points 2 months ago

God what a twatwaffle.

[–] finley@lemm.ee 3 points 2 months ago

No fucking shit
