Vance stated he was unaware of Upton’s past mental health struggles and refused to apologize, dismissing the incident as a joke.

Yes. This is exactly what bullies do. “If I hurt you then it was a joke and you should get over it.”

The group that the Republican ticket accurately represents is breathtakingly small. But it seems it is mostly folks who run on hate and spite. You know, bullies.

[–] fine_sandy_bottom@lemmy.federate.cc 38 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The republicans have a penchant for the "mental health" backhanded compassion.

The implication in this comment is that Uptons feelings are to be disregarded because she has poor mental health.

A few days ago it was the cemetery employee having a mental health episode who asked them to stop filming.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 months ago

Of course when it's a school shooter, everyone should have only regarded the shooter's mental health.

[–] brygphilomena@lemmy.world 143 points 2 months ago (2 children)

“Politics has gotten way too lame,” he said, adding, “I’m not going to apologize for posting a joke, but I wish the best for Caitlin.”

Then get out of politics, you fucking weirdo.

[–] _wizard@lemmy.world 32 points 2 months ago (3 children)

This is the time to stop using weirdo and instead just say "piece of shit."

[–] PoopingCough@lemmy.world 35 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

Nah, they're resistant to that because their whole engine is fueled with hate. They have persecution and victim complexes. Calling them weird actually seems to affect them because their whole thing is parading around as if they're the party for "average" aka "normal"~(white)~ Americans.

Why not weird piece of shit?

[–] hemmes@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

JD Vance is a weird-ass, ~~mother~~ couch fuckin' piece of shit

[–] teft@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago (2 children)

No, he's a couch fucker, not a mother fucker.

[–] hemmes@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

You are absolutely right. I've corrected the mistake.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Could be both. He seems to want everyone to think he's a hillbilly...

[–] Imotali@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

No. Fascist WANT to be called pieces of shit. They WANT you to hate them. They can't STAND being valued weird. That's why it works. Fascist like being despised, it makes them feel powerful and important.

[–] Dagwood222@lemm.ee 14 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Reagan said that government couldn't help. Then became head of the government

[–] Floodedwomb@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago

And made damn sure it couldn't help.

[–] Dagwood222@lemm.ee 77 points 2 months ago (2 children)

You learn this in kindergarten.

If you bump into someone accidentally, you still apologize.

Intentions mean nothing.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 25 points 2 months ago

The intention was to be hurtful this time though.

[–] Crikeste@lemm.ee 23 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

“Kindergarten? You mean the demonrat brainwashing center? Never been.”

[–] Nuke_the_whales@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's funny how these days as a parent, if you homeschool your kids I just assume you're a nut

[–] Imotali@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

The reason for this is that homeschool advocacy groups are all far right grifters laundering money like PragerU and the HSLDF. The homeschool to alt-right pipeline is real.

[–] WoahWoah@lemmy.world 63 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

He literally used a stupid Trump supporter to try to characterize Harris as stupid: "hurr hurr Harris dumb like our voters." Republicans are literally directly insulting supporters by highlighting their ignorance and it won't make any difference in Trump's polling.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 58 points 2 months ago (4 children)

Stupid fuck didn't even check to see if she was a Trump supporter before he did it. And she was. I'm guessing not so much anymore.

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 54 points 2 months ago

Wait she is? So this is more of a leopard ate her face moment?

[–] harrys_balzac@lemmy.dbzer0.com 51 points 2 months ago

I have less empathy for her because her support of Trump shows that she only cares when she's the victim.

[–] CeruleanRuin@lemmings.world 34 points 2 months ago

You underestimate how stupid these people can be.

[–] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 16 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm sure she will still vote for Trump. They all roll over for him, every one.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That highly depends on whether or not she was true MAGA or just voted party line. Trump is shedding the latter as voters. Much like people on the left with Biden, they're starting to plan to just sit out the election.

[–] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

We'll see. I've seen too much blind loyalty to expect that to happen in any significant numbers. This is a turnout game for Democrats, they need to get huge numbers.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Why do you think they need to get huge numbers when many previous elections were literally determined by a few thousand people?

[–] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Because Republicans turn out.

Because Republicans have installed corrupt election officials in many locations who will refuse to certify or fuck with ballots.

It needs to be way past 50%+1. Look at what's happening in Georgia. Look at all the MAGA secretaries of state. This isn't 2000 any more, we have an active fascist party that's already tried one coup.

Republicans: Mass shootings are Mental Health Issue! Also Republicans: Make fun of people who have Mental Health Issues.

[–] 800XL@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Also Republicans: Suffering from serious undiagnosed mental issues

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 48 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I hope she's strong enough today to be able to deal with the barrage of shit that is coming her way because of Vance.

[–] Cyclist@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago

Deleted her Twitter account so...

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 25 points 2 months ago

Homie is just jealous that Harris could give a clear and concise interview without going on some sort of weird old dementia ramble like Trump.

[–] CeruleanRuin@lemmings.world 20 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

Meh, she's a dingbat and a narcissist, and while it's unfortunate that she screwed up so bad on her quest for attention that she became an internet byword for dumb blonde, narcissistic dingbat, take your choice, she was always a right-winger and a supporter of people of Vance's ilk, and so this is just another case of chickens coming home to shit on the roost.

Who the fuck cares what this couch-fucking weirdo thinks about ANYTHING?

Are we even surprised he stated he's "unaware" of a fact? Being unaware is his fucking centerpiece.

[–] Imotali@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

JD Vance once again gets caught essentially saying he hates women? Colour me not surprised. I'm very surprised this man has children.

[–] HeyJoe@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago

He really thinks he can just say whatever he wants, like he is Trump or something. At least they are holding one of them accountable, kind of.

[–] mysticpickle@lemmy.ca 15 points 2 months ago

I admire that the writer of this article was able to express the subject's disapproval in the title with the word "rebukes" and not fall to the temptation of using "slams" or "claps back" or -god forbid "put on blast"

[–] Tylerdurdon@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Was she the one who talked about the Africa and such?

[–] Tylerdurdon@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

And such as, yes. No bullying shall be allowed though, regardless of the comedic value.

[–] Ulrich_the_Old@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

jd vance responded by saying it was just a joke and I will not apologize as was expected since he is a misogynist and massive asshole.

[–] normanwall@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

JD Vance is "please clap" in human form

[–] dezmd@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

JDPC Vance.

[–] johannesvanderwhales@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

The attack just reeks of "look a woman did a thing, they're all the same, right?" The misogynistic attacks tended to land more with the public when they were directed towards Hillary, a figure who was viewed unfavorably by a lot of people. But with kamala it feels like "well she's a woman" is their only attack. I don't know how the election will turn out but trump's campaign seems desperate right now.

[–] scytale@lemm.ee 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Paywalled. What was her mistake at the pageant?

[–] AnActOfCreation@programming.dev 9 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Non-paywalled: https://archive.vn/t0gZ4

It was the famous interview where they asked her why Americans couldn't find the United States on a map. It went viral at the time.

EDIT: Someone posted the video: https://lemmy.world/comment/12139126
