Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Remember when Brazil banned Twitter because Elon Musk broke the law. And the liberals said that this was an attack on freedom of expression and that the judges of the Brazilian Supreme Court were not elected (ignoring the fact that the same thing happens in the US).

[–] newmou@hexbear.net 57 points 1 day ago (1 children)

But also AMLO making judges electable is doin an authoritarianism lol truly fish brained people

I think it was Michael Parenti that said something like: "If the churches in the USSR were empty, this demonstrated that religion was suppressed, but if the churches were full, this meant the people were rejecting the regime’s atheistic ideology. If the workers went on strike, this was evidence of their alienation from the collectivist system. if they didn’t go on strike, this was because they were intimidated and lacked freedom. A scarcity of consumer goods demonstrated the failure of the economic system; an improvement in consumer supplies meant only that the leaders were attempting to placate a restive population and so maintain a firmer hold over them." These people will never be happy with anything that isn't full submission to the US.

Even if they completely capitulate to US control the media would still point at those exact things as criticism that they are doing it wrong or that there's just "too much corruption" in their "society*."

*usually a dogwhistle for racism

Japan being treated the way it was in the 80s is proof of that

And the liberals said that this was an attack on freedom of expression

I didn't really see that. Most Libs I saw were pretty pro the ban.

I like African Stream a lot they literally just post marxist stuff, fuck amerikkka.

I assume they'll be banned on reddit soon then, they've been personally posting to /r/greenandpleasant and a few other leftist places. Super successful on tiktok as well.

[–] Rojo27@hexbear.net 58 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Awesome. I love logging onto Facebook or Instagram and seeing hateful content directed at minorities and thinly veiled neonazisim, but we certainly can't let those pesky Ruskis keep on spreading misinformation!the-democrat

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 37 points 1 day ago

Same meta site that literally helped fuel a genocide. Am I taking crazy pills here

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 48 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Ant Blinken says african stream is propaganda and these doing a tik tok ban. Somehow twitter interfering with the election in certain ways, proliferating the far right, having a CEO incite violence towards a sitting president and doesnt warrant a response. In fact it gets him extended DoD contracts (despite his documented refusal to to have Starlink support Ukraine attack. Not defending the dod or anyone just curious to me) Whats really good? cat-confused

"can't have solidarity against the bourgeoisie" and us-foreign-policy

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Bredda I'm betting you like me have been using that chart like nuts everytime on social media. Thats the acceptable "russian propaganda" I guess.

[–] asante@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

media to the left of the state department is russian propaganda

very-normal

[–] coolusername@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 day ago

I don't think tiktok will be banned. It's controlled by the CIA. Read the mintpressnews article about it.

[–] EmoThugInMyPhase@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

The country has placed the entire fate of climate change into the hands of Musk. Obviously Musk would never give up the opportunity for contracts out of petty squabbles, but such incompetence gives him a leverage because basically the economy relies on his dumbass company

[–] coolusername@lemmy.ml 16 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

told you guys. everything is controlled by the CIA or state department
I REALLY want to jump ship to Russian or Chinese controlled sites. It would be good propaganda to see a large amount of users use "bad country" websites in order to avoid CIA botting and censorship. Reddit is completely unusable now due to CIA/Israeli bots. I do NOT want to see pro-genocidal content.

[–] SovietReporter@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If you stay on Reddit on like 10 subreddits, you avoid that.

[–] coolusername@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

before my last reddit ip ban I was only on hobby subs and thedeprogram, yet I saw CIA and Israeli propaganda in the hobby subs. i was banned from a hobby sub for debunking a claim and later on I accidentally commented within the sub which got me an IP ban (which is easily circumventible btw).

it's been a strategy for at a few years (I'd say approx 2020) to indoctrinate people who are not into politics or current affairs

[–] asante@hexbear.net 40 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

damn, they got African Stream?! wishing a slow and painful death to amerikkka

well it is twitter and meta so shouldn't be surprised abt the platforms they got banned from. plus youtube's been trigger happy w/ its content policy for a long time now

e: just meta, not twitter

[–] SovietReporter@lemmygrad.ml 22 points 1 day ago (2 children)

They are still on Twitter

You can also follow them on Telegram

[–] someone@hexbear.net 28 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Twitter

Another American platform.

Telegram

A platform recently compromised by the French government.

The Cold War 2.0 information crackdown is already here. At first it will be the low-hanging fruit: channels on corporate platforms. After that will be more subtle McCarthy-type pressure, then overt. If anyone is doing anything important on a corporate platform, it's time to make alternative-communication plans now.

[–] SovietReporter@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

There is PeerTube, but I am not sure if they incorporate it. And there is no alternative for Telegram that is FLOSS.

[–] Zvyozdochka@hexbear.net 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I've never used Telegram, but from what I can see public Matrix groups could most likely take it's place? Maybe there's some features I'm unaware of but shrug-outta-hecks

[–] PorkrollPosadist@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I don't use it personally, but from my understanding Telegram has been moving in the "everything app" direction. While it does group chats and DMs (like Matrix), it is also used as a publishing platform (like Twitter or Substack), among other things. This model of doing a million different things under one brand name is something I don't expect any free software platform to take up any time soon. They typically prefer to choose one problem, solve it, and keep the project focused within that scope, whereas commercial platforms just acquire firms and assimilate their functionality under their branding (or, less successfully, decide randomly one day that the micro-blogging platform is now a video streaming platform suitable for presidential campaign launch announcements).

The tendency for tire manufacturers to become the de facto review board for luxury restaurants is a uniquely capitalist phenomenon.

[–] Zvyozdochka@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago

Ah, that makes sense then. I think It'd be cool to see an open-source take on the "everything app", my (limited) experience with WeChat is quite positive. It's incredibly convenient to just have one login that can grant you access to everything you'd ever need and have it be widely enough used for it to be actually useful.

[–] asante@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

oops idk how i managed to read "twitter" in the post

[–] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

African Stream was good stuff. Pretty innicent stuff too. What "guideline" did they break?

[–] aaaaaaadjsf@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think they the accusation is that they took funding from RT

[–] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 3 points 16 hours ago

tails-startled Oh noes! The horrors if true! jagoff

What a joke.

[–] blobjim@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

red. is an absolutely terrible name for any organization anyways. Completely unsearchable, they practically censored themselves.

African Stream has an RSS feed and telegram account. https://africanstream.media/feed/
You should be able to just put africanstream.media into your RSS reader and it will locate the /feed endpoint from the html head element.

Thanks. 🥰 Gotta collect more of those watchlists.

[–] SwitchyWitchyandBitchy@hexbear.net 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Goddammit, anyone know where I can find red. videos now? I gotta go make backups of some useful video from other channels I think might get hit next. Good timing on tankie tube.

[–] peeonyou@hexbear.net 8 points 1 day ago

they've still got a channel on telegram, though who knows how long telegram will last
