The actual event is, as usual, fascinatingly cringey.

This is right after the second guy fainted, so trump’s already been interrupted twice, the venue’s tiny, and I think he doesn’t like dog killer Kristi Noem despite obvious commonalities. She was probably insufficiently subservient.

He wants security to open the doors to let fresh air in, but they can’t because of USSS measures to protect his dumb ass. Watch how he loses his mind in rage, suppresses it, and rolls it into his patter in the span of one second.

Then he says hey everybody lets all hear my favorite - Pavarotti singing Ave Maria! (Crowd cheers). The fuck? It gets weirder from there.

The church people doing the both hands in the air thing has always struck me as odd.

This time it strikes me as infantile behavior. Like a child asking for their parent to pick them up... It's so weird.

I don't think he gets what's going on there, that there's people treating it like a church service. At least he doesn't recognize the symbols and gestures, he gets the "they're worshipping me" part, which I suppose is the "important" thing.

This shit is gonna stick around forever now. Ugh. I wonder if this is how the Romans felt.

Ugh. I wonder if this is how the Romans felt.

I think they were too busy trying to keep the emperor from pimping their wives, or nailing them to a cross.

Thanks for posting that. He was definitely trying to dismiss the crowd with YMCA. When they don't leave, he asks if they want another song. He still seemed with it at that point, but then he just sways and does awkward dances for half an hour. He points and waves and talks to people on stage occasionally. Really bizarre. At 1:41:25, an aide goes on stage and shows him a note of some kind, then he wraps it up after that song finishes. Dying to know what that note said.

His TV is set up in his dressing room so he can watch his "Programs"

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

My contract explicitly says that Matlock must be available on DVR upon my arrival!

[–] Wrench@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

You mean "on the tee vo"

[–] formergijoe@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Note said Putin's on the phone. /s but not really

[–] GroundedGator@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I have been reading different headlines all day about this. This comment and video show how bizarre the whole thing was. The headlines and short posts just seem meh. I wouldn't trust this fool to hold a bottle of water for me, much less run the country.

We're so fucked if we don't get everyone who supports Harris or supports democracy and is willing to vote for Harris to show up.

I wouldn't trust this fool to hold a bottle of water for me

You’d be right, he’s not good at that either.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Do you think he makes them use small water bottles to hide his tiny hands?

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Probably cause that's as much as he can physically manipulate since he's never done anything more physical than golf.

We’re so fucked if we don’t get everyone who supports Harris or supports democracy and is willing to vote for Harris to show up.

We can help make that happen

Make sure to register to vote. Deadlines are fast approaching in many states

Find opportunities to volunteer for dems around you and online

Write letters to voters in swing states or in competitive downballot races

[–] iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago

That was so strange.

Dammit who put the question mark in the teleprompter?!

[–] collapse_already@lemmy.ml 46 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Remember when Howard Dean yelling a little enthusiastically was enough to doom his campaign in the primaries? How have we gotten to the point where a senile Nazi sundowning on camera for 40 minutes has a toss-up chance of being president and will almost certainly stage a coup in the event that he loses?

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

He's going to stage one if he wins too. There's no doubt that he will be attempting to overthrow the legitimate government of the United States.

[–] Spiralvortexisalie@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago (2 children)

For reference: 2004: The scream that doomed Howard Dean

The establishment said he needed to go after this rally, and he was basically cancelled for being enthusiastic about helping America.

[–] OpenPassageways@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I had heard this as well, but someone else on here was basically saying that his campaign was doomed before this anyways, not sure of the specifics.

[–] booly@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago

I made a comment describing the phenomenon here:

(Sorry, I don't know the proper way to link a comment in an instance-agnostic way so I linked to the URL of my home instance)

That’s confusing cause and effect. Howard Dean’s speech was supposed to be a concession speech after losing the only early primary/caucus he was trying to win. He poured in all of his resources in the hopes of winning Iowa, underperformed expectations against a backdrop of dropping in the polls for weeks, and coming in third (with no real prospects for New Hampshire or South Carolina) basically made it impossible for him to have the volunteers, money, or press coverage to survive into the next stage of competing in bigger states with primaries clumped up together.

He showed everyone his plan of winning Iowa or going home, lost Iowa, and then gave some kind of rallying speech as if he had a plan to recover from that loss. He never did, and it wasn’t the scream that killed his campaign. His campaign was dead before the scream happened. It’s just that the scream was a particularly memorable way for a campaign to die.

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 1 points 1 month ago

It was a weird sounding scream though. It reminds me of Jeb's "please clap" moment.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world -4 points 1 month ago

The second-most depressing thing about this election is how, for most of it, both candidates were people in clear cognitive decline.

[–] zcd@lemmy.ca 32 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Where were his handlers while he was sundowning on stage???

[–] usernamesAreTricky@lemmy.ml 22 points 1 month ago

The fascinating thing is that there were other people on stage during this. I think they're afraid to make him mad

[–] jared@mander.xyz 20 points 1 month ago

Probably exhausted, hiding somewhere.

[–] noride@lemm.ee 26 points 1 month ago

Where will you be when the Ketamine kicks in?

[–] cultsuperstar@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

Trump just spoke out against Kamala using teleprompters. His campaign shouldn't even put them up so we can see how crazy shit gets at his rallies.

……. Is this real?!

[–] fox2263@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Perfect for a meme

Trump is a perfect illustration of the uncannily valley. He looks strangely human enough to pass as human, but he behaves strangely stupid and criminal enough to be a poorly written 90’s video game villain.
