But look at how many people named after airports (and grade schools) became president. It's like a shortcut to success.

[-] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

How many grade schools have become President?

[-] jcit878@lemmy.world 15 points 8 months ago

Harold Holt was an Australian PM who disappeared at sea, presumably drowned.

We named a pool after him

[-] altima_neo@lemmy.zip 10 points 8 months ago

Herbert Hoover got a vacuum named after him

[-] Pregnenolone@lemmy.world 13 points 8 months ago

Naming your kid after a shooting victim

[-] Declamatie@mander.xyz 12 points 8 months ago

I don't live in the USA, but isn't that a spaceport?

[-] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 14 points 8 months ago

He has an air port and a space port. All kinds of ports

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@literature.cafe 7 points 8 months ago

The man did love slipping into a different port every night.

[-] WrittenWeird@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

And two aircraft carriers.

[-] isVeryLoud@lemmy.ca 2 points 8 months ago

[-] revlayle@lemm.ee 7 points 8 months ago

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 10 points 8 months ago

They did the same with Ronald Reagan!

[-] Serinus@lemmy.ml 5 points 8 months ago

They named him "National"?

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.ml 8 points 8 months ago

Yes. His name was President Ronald Reagan National Airport.

[-] Serinus@lemmy.ml 3 points 8 months ago

Oh, the airport is just named "National". I think the rest is a typo.

[-] teruma@lemmy.world 9 points 8 months ago

I share a name with a local airport. It's pretty embarrassing.

[-] The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website 10 points 8 months ago

That's nothing to be embarrassed about, La Guardia.

[-] pascal@lemm.ee 2 points 8 months ago

Which is probably the worst airport in New York. But I'm always fascinated by the name.

For who doesn't know, it can be translated as "the guardian" or "the guarding".

[-] Blackmist@feddit.uk 8 points 8 months ago

I'm sorry to hear that Salt Lake City International Airport. Who calls their kid that? It's just cruel.

[-] Barack_Embalmer@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago

I always wondered why they decided to honor the memory of John Wayne Gacy by naming an airport after him.

[-] tslnox@reddthat.com 5 points 8 months ago
[-] jimmydoreisalefty@lemmus.org 4 points 8 months ago

The Kennedy name continues with RFK Jr.

Interesting times...

[-] neptune@dmv.social 3 points 8 months ago

OK, but imagine naming your child DCA?

[-] Gimpydude@lemmynsfw.com 3 points 8 months ago

That's wild. Idlewild.

[-] fat_stig@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

If it's good enough for John Lennon...
