It depends on how long I have to train. If I have a few years to git gud, the longbow is the superior choice because of the rate of fire. If I need to fight tomorrow, a crossbow because any idiot can point and shoot.

Crossbow. I am a lazy engineery person. I did throw together a fun design for a lever action bullpup crossbow. Maybe I should revisit that
Really like crossbows but I've never really been strong enough to draw one without doing it gastraphetes style.
Historically shortbows were the bow of choice of people in my country and there's still yew trees all over where I live as a lasting impact of that.
Longbow is easier to make yourself, but I like to overcomplicate all my projects so I choose crossbow
