Sick. Reminder that Boots can't promote this because of the strike so watch it and tell people you're watching it

When I originally read that it was about some guys wanting to “change the system” from the inside, I thought it was a bit out of character for Boots Riley. Glad he was just fucking around

Also is that Elijah wood

At first I was like "No that can't be, that looks nothing like Frodo Baggins" but then I remembered that the Lord of the Rings movies came out over 20 years ago

[–] Thordros@hexbear.net 2 points 1 year ago

I thought about it from the opposite direction: "Wow, Frodo aged really well! His beard is way less grey than mine!"

Oh this just went to the top of my list!

Is this the Boots Riley thing, or is that something else coming out later?

[–] regul@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

It's the Boots thing.

Zizek voices a baby.

Consequentialism baybeeeeeee

This exact hypothetical is taught in ethics classes. You being a nice SS guard at a camp will reduce the most harm/provide the most utility. Watcha gunna do?

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's not even that good of a hypothetical, obviously you'd do better as an SS guard if you take the matt pill and kill yourself and everyone around you.

[–] machiabelly@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah but I feel like if I wanted to do something like this i'd join the partizans or defect to the soviets. Too much of philosophy is focusing on vacuums instead of lives.

Do feel free to take the matt pill tho

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

For sure, it's how all hypothetical scenarios feel.

It's almost too on the nose, but I suppose it has to be for shitlibs to hopefully get the fucking point lmao

Yeah that's how I felt about Sorry To Bother You too.

Then I finished it watching it, and not a single person in the room really got it. And I don't mean 100% understood, critically analysed etc etc - I just mean that they saw anything beyond lolll horse people and wow working in a call centre must suck!

I felt like a very mediocre wizard. Or like a hog among dogs.

[–] bananon@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

I like hog among dogs

The show has like 3 scenes where it a character just explains cirises of capitalism and surplus value straight up

[–] LibsEatPoop@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

We should do a watch party for it.
