Depression is also a symptom of ADHD

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 20 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Depression can be its own diagnosis even if they're common comorbidities.

Or, to put it another way, just because you have depression and ADHD doesn't mean the ADHD caused the depression.

My ADHD manifests in the complete opposite way.

Me: "Let's go to sleep."
ADHD:

[–] countrypunk@slrpnk.net 52 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Mine is the best of both worlds. Impossible to go to sleep, impossible to arise from my slumber.

people have tried to tell me that I have ADHD before but this is the meme that makes me think I might

[–] Kalkaline@leminal.space 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'd run away from my life on the way home from work if I listened to that stupid voice. I'd probably just be a Roamer.

[–] ghost_towels@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago

I used to pass under the electronic sign that tells you how full the ferry is every day on the way to work. Every day I would think I could just go straight and keep going. And then I’d turn and head to work. Sigh.

For the first time ever I'm in golden handcuffs and multiple times a day I think to myself "I should quit".

but so far the long term reward promise has beaten the immediate gratification seeking part of my brain.

tbf, I'm not complaining, it is a good problem to have

[–] janus2@lemmy.zip 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

being employed is pretty much as miserable as being unemployed but at least now i have health insurance and got a fucking diagnosis and might get some goddamn treatment in the foreseeable future so. yay? :|

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 days ago

At least you have a carrot to run after.

[–] OsrsNeedsF2P@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Goddamn, same tbh. I was thinking about quitting for the last 20 minutes and then realised due to stock run up I have golden handcuffs too.

So miserable but the money so good ....

If I mange to get fired for doomscrolling instead of working, I’d be free. But I really should get back to work now … 😞

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I like my job. I spend all day solving interesting problems. It’s totally my thing.

[–] countrypunk@slrpnk.net 3 points 2 days ago (3 children)

What's your job if you don't mind my asking

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 days ago

I do not mind at all. For the last two years, I have been a process manager for the operations enablement team in the client success department of a healthcare company. I have just been promoted to a new role of senior business analyst in engineering. It’s a bit of a misleading title, they both kind of are, But I will be doing very similar things, I.E.implementing structure, order, accountability, and other project management type things in an engineering department that is severely lacking in any of that stuff currently. Client success is also completely lacking in those things as well, and I have been doing what I can, but I have had my hands tied behind my back by a boss who needs to take credit for everything and has no idea how to delegate or lead people.

LEGO quality control, they get a box of Legos to put together and have to make sure all the pieces are there and the instructions are correct.

Game progression analyst, they 100% new video games and record how long it took them to complete each task.

[–] Benjaben@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Cool! Who pays for that? Game developers / publishers or more like game focused media outlets?

[–] Uli@sopuli.xyz 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

River otters mostly. They have a vested interest in maximizing the amount of time humans spend indoors playing games. Funding-wise, they don't have a many clams but they're generous with the smooth rocks from their armpit pouches. They really aren't shellfish.
