A community for your defence shitposting needs

Rules

1. Be niceDo not make personal attacks against each other, call for violence against anyone, or intentionally antagonize people in the comment sections.

2. Explain incorrect defense articles and takes

If you want to post a non-credible take, it must be from a "credible" source (news article, politician, or military leader) and must have a comment laying out exactly why it's non-credible. Low-hanging fruit such as random Twitter and YouTube comments belong in the Matrix chat.

3. Content must be relevant

Posts must be about military hardware or international security/defense. This is not the page to fawn over Youtube personalities, simp over political leaders, or discuss other areas of international policy.

4. No racism / hatespeech

No slurs. No advocating for the killing of people or insulting them based on physical, religious, or ideological traits.

5. No politics

We don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Stalinist, Baathist, or some other hot mess. Leave it at the door. This applies to comments as well.

6. No seriousposting

We don't want your uncut war footage, fundraisers, credible news articles, or other such things. The world is already serious enough as it is.

7. No classified material

Classified ‘western’ information is off limits regardless of how "open source" and "easy to find" it is.

8. Source artwork

If you use somebody's art in your post or as your post, the OP must provide a direct link to the art's source in the comment section, or a good reason why this was not possible (such as the artist deleting their account). The source should be a place that the artist themselves uploaded the art. A booru is not a source. A watermark is not a source.

9. No low-effort posts

No egregiously low effort posts. E.g. screenshots, recent reposts, simple reaction & template memes, and images with the punchline in the title. Put these in weekly Matrix chat instead.

10. Don't get us banned

No brigading or harassing other communities. Do not post memes with a "haha people that I hate died… haha" punchline or violating the sh.itjust.works rules (below). This includes content illegal in Canada.

11. No misinformation

NCD exists to make fun of misinformation, not to spread it. Make outlandish claims, but if your take doesn’t show signs of satire or exaggeration it will be removed. Misleading content may result in a ban. Regardless of source, don’t post obvious propaganda or fake news. Double-check facts and don't be an idiot.

Hellfire R9X

What the fuck

[–] bluewing@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago

I'm all for it as long as it can make a conventional cut and a Humboldt cut. I'm assuming it can make plunge cuts.

[–] EtherWhack@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Honestly, I see circular saws/blades as more horrifying

[–] Fridgeratr@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

40 horsepower??? Holy shit are you trying to cut titanium?

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 9 points 1 day ago

It's an anti-tank weapon.

Spinning blade would cause some gyroscopic issues

Orks are definitely the only species this would ever work for.

Although I'm surprised they don't just make a gun that fires smaller guns that also fire bullets which themselves fire bullets... that explode.

You should check out Enter the Gungeon.

Everyone should check out Enter the Gungeon.

Its easy for us rougelike enjoyer's to forget but the average person isn't looking for entertainment where they die over and over slowly learning enemy patterns and unlocking new stuff. It takes a special kind of masochistic challenge chasing nerd to get something out of these kinds of games.

Choppa shoota’ or shoota’ choppy?

Mork said iz good, make it work!

[–] PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This meme is so old it can legally drive at this point

[–] nuke@sh.itjust.works 17 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I bet you're so old you can drive too

(gottem)

You would need an equal and opposite angular momentum at the back of the chainsaw otherwise it will just rotate upwards and loop around in circles.

[–] CaptnNMorgan@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

The real one deploys blades that cause the missile to spin at very high speeds before it slices through its targets like butter without an explosion

[–] Kaboom@reddthat.com 48 points 2 days ago (2 children)

So a second chainsaw in the opposite direction?

[–] ajmaxwell@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago

Give this man a promotion!

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

Nah, second chain pointing forward rotating the opposite direction, with the teeth facing forward.

[–] gimsy@feddit.it 6 points 2 days ago

You can balance it adjusting the rocket nozzle

[–] sawdustprophet@midwest.social 7 points 2 days ago

an equal and opposite angular momentum

Idea: contra rotating chainsaws.

[–] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 days ago

If the chainsaw generates so much inertial that it challenges your trajectory, you're doing something right.

[–] Draegur@lemm.ee 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

just enough rotational velocity to counter gravity trying to pull the nose of the missile down though. and also the centripetal momentum of the chain would act like a gyro stabilizer insuring that it remains nominally upright.

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

You'll need more mass in those teeth.

Depleted uranium chain saw teeth.

Every 40k author is tearing up their manuscript right now and starting afresh,

...the screaming chainsaw missile tore through the mid-morning air, the astartes all laughed as it sliced though half a squad of guardsmen as they ate breakfast...

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Serious Sam 4 has a secret RPC weapon you can find if you preordered the game or enable it with cheats. It's as broken as it is fun.

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Only if they're battery-powered. Carrying enough fuel to feed the saw as well as the rocket would be too much

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (3 children)

If they were they'd be a war crime.

[–] CaptnNMorgan@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why would that be a war crime if the Hellfire R9X isn't?

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Edit: whoops, wrong comment.

[–] Moops@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

It's never a war crime the first time!

[–] laurelraven@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 days ago

New Helldiver support weapon?

You'll shoot your arm off.

[–] Agility0971@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Only if they can reach mach 5

I was hoping this linked to an XKCD article that discusses the question. Answering the question optional.

[–] fin@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That’s actually a good idea for a new fallout weapon

What if you put chainsaws on a Hellfire missile to replace the blades.

[–] skulblaka@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

I genuinely don't think that would make a difference. No matter which version of those you get hit by a direct strike is going to turn you and your immediate surroundings into salsa. May as well save the construction costs.

[–] FreshLight@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

That's my reminder to check for a new Chainsaw Man chapter

[–] GBU_28@lemm.ee 4 points 2 days ago

I have no notes
