Probably goes without saying but you really shouldn't message back bots unless you want to continue receiving other spam messages.

much thanks to @gary_host_laptop for the logo design :)
Good point, I actually didn't think of that. But it wasn't a bot. Anyway, I guess that's the point of being able to throw away usernames.
That seems legit man. You missed out.
I asked him to send me the check and just send it to my address since he had my Signal number. I'm expecting it before Christmas.
Note, if you have sensitive information in your signal profile, you shouldn't accept messages you aren't familiar with
See the "What happens when I ..." > "Accept" section

I'm not aware of any other privacy issues past that, but I'd worry about getting more spam by engaging with them
I get spam like this on every single messaging platform eventually. Just block and report it and get on with your life.
Yep, not a lot but it happens
I've had spam on mostly every messaging platform. Telegram has been easily the worst though
It's only second prize so can't be scam
Well, are you a millionaire yet? We're all dying to know!
Any day now
and a truck!!
S tier play, say i want all my money to go to the local childrens hospital aswell as the truck. If it happend to be real (which its not) you helped out sick kids. And you make the spanmer on the other end feel like the peice of shit they are!!
make the spanmer on the other end feel like the peice of shit they are!!
Bold of you to assume those spineless scum would care about the wellbeing of children.
chances are they'd scam children if they had any money. Scum like that target easy victims
It feels more likely that you're going to waste the hospital's resources if they somehow get accused of money laundering.
If you're on Android use the app Molly. You can disable messages from people not within your contacts
That's the 2nd place prize?! Imagine what the 1st place prize is!
keep in mind that phone number privacy does not mean that they don't get your phone number, but that the official app does not reveal it.
but then, they have probably found you either by phone number or from a group
I get it a lot, I'm guessing from randomly trying usernames
Yes since you registered your phone and have an id, it's a way to spam you. Simplex doesn't have it btw
I really don't mind the single spam I've gotten so far and I accepted the request just because I enjoy playing with them.
SimpleX seems pretty nice but I had enough trouble converting my family to Signal. Did you there isn't feature parity between the iOS and Android versions?
SimpleX is for now a bit too new, but I think this the way to go. What do you mean by feature parity?
Why truck, tho? Is it supposed to be one megabuck in $1 bills or something?
Nah I didn't and not even on my email too 🤷♂️
I got one which appeared at first to be a wrong number, just someone asking if I was Catherine or something. I politely informed them of their mistake. They kept messaging, already a bit weird, but then started saying I was "a nice man, nothing like other men" and I slapped that block button. Idk where it was going (not even a man lol, sorry love) but I'm confident it would have ended with asking me for money... Eventually.
That was a pig butchering scam
Jeeeesus fucking Christ. John Oliver is pretty funny but it almost doesn't feel acceptable to be laughing during some of that. Anyway, glad I didn't fall for it 😬
So that's what that shit was. Got sent three of those conversations and at first I thought they were weird but I should've knew no woman will willingly keep a conversion going even less with random strangers.
@Delusion6903 I haven't, as I only allow messages from friends/colleagues, and I don't have my email or phone number visible on my profile. If you show email/phone number on your profile you can get requests from random people, like in this case.
And also if you don't show email or phone number anywhere, as I don't either.
Once got a wrong number text from a human on Signal but that's it
I wonder what the reasoning was behind it being the 2nd place prize. Is that inherently more believable?
