If you're a pastor, maybe think of the children a little less.

[–] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 3 weeks ago

No, not like that!

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 28 points 3 weeks ago

Sometimes I see a lady visibly early in transition entering the women's washroom at work. I go in there and fuck with my phone to ensure nobody bothers her, and just pretend I'm fixing my hair when she comes out, and then just make sure she's ok exiting. I do not want some dumb shit bothering her. She might be fine defending herself, but girl I got you if you need me.

Look, I'm fine with this whole religion thing, but can't they just stop being Christians whenever children are around? I mean, come on, why do you have to be Christian all the time?

[–] clashorcrashman@lemmy.zip 13 points 3 weeks ago

I'm okay with them being Christian, but grooming kids with their youth groups and bible studies is a whole other thing.

[–] ByteOnBikes@slrpnk.net 3 points 3 weeks ago

I understand your "life choice", but I really hate that you're just putting your Christianity out there for everyone to see. keep it behind closed doors.

What’s truly disgusting is how effective Trump’s anti trans advertisements were.

[–] CreativeShotgun@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Many people have never met a trans person, they've never shook our hand, spoken to us, nothing. Too many people think of trans women as a man in a dress with tits invading womens rooms, trying to justify their perversion like MAPS do.

Pick your biggest insecurity and imagine you were born with it outright and there's not much you can do to change it after you've grown past 12. That's what its like. Imagine peeing constantly because of the remedy to this problem but not being able to use public bathrooms. Imagine being too weak to fight the angry men that attack you.

[–] Zink@programming.dev 6 points 3 weeks ago

The fact that many people have never met a trans person (that they know of, right?) is a big part of why they make such a great bogeyman for conservatives.

Working to correct that should probably involve exposing those people to a larger variety of other humans. Unforunately I think they already “know” that humanity, much like education, the media, and the internet, has a known liberal bias and cannot be trusted.

Growing up in the 90s, if was gays causing AIDs.

My parents growing up in the 60s, it was Blacks ruining the American dream.

If we really want to go granular, every decade is some new BS.

An S with a / for an 8 may not be the most upsetting aspect here, but it's on the chart.

[–] leftascenter@jlai.lu 7 points 3 weeks ago

Helps to visually align with the barred 6. Makes it eye-catching.

That, sir, is a 9 with a cape

[–] FinalRemix@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

I was actually thinking how it's such a clever way to write "8".

[–] cowfodder@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago

Those damn librul police departments are all refusing to arrest those pedofil drag queens!

What happened 3 years ago?

[–] brbposting@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Yeah sadly that’s my first thought

(Of course a proportion of the general population commits grievous crimes against children as well… I even heard once that priests were about as likely as men in general to be molesters but I never looked for a source)

[–] RoidingOldMan@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Seems like that stat about priests is mostly true, though hard to be sure of anything because only 1 in 10 incidents are reported.

I'm seeing numbers like 2-3% of men have committed child sexual abuse, and possibly 4% of priests. However the number of victims might be significantly higher for priests as they are encountering far more children.

[–] brbposting@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

Thanks for researching - exactly the facts I was looking for!

I believe it's a little higher than general population but not by much. The sad truth is vocations with access to children have higher abuse rates (vicar, teacher, pastor, coach) because any adults with access to children have higher abuse rates. Religions authority is abused for sure, but the sad truth out of the Catholic and Anglican abuse scandals is that a fair number of abuse cases didn't involve abuse of power. By that I mean in some cases it wasn't an overt feature, there were cases of 14, 15 year olds acting out their attraction to older youth pastors and those people taking advantage by not saying no. That is clearly still illegal. But I only mention to illustrate that a feature of the higher abuse rates was - sadly - just the amount of contact time with children, rather than "religion" itself.

And all that's really just to say, although I know "paedo priest" is a well established meme, the sad truth is that any contact between adults and children had to be safeguarded whether they're priests, drag queens, or cross dressing bishops...

Asking the tough questions.

[–] mightyfoolish@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

The title of this post shouldn't even be a meme. I'm sick of how trans people face so much crap because of hypotheticals.

What if my daughter is in the bathroom with him?

Why would someone dress like "a woman", cut off their we-we, and just plain live life on dangerous mode just to be alone in the bathroom with your daughter? Based on prior crimes, there is definitely much easier ways to accomplish such "goals" (such as being a priest or serial killer). Also, there's no telling if Aunt Jill won't do anything to your daughter either. Honestly, if you're that worried, just escorate your child to a private stall while you wait in the same bathroom.

[–] Gladaed@feddit.org 3 points 3 weeks ago

This is a terrible abuse of statistics. There are probably more pastors than drag Queens meaning its even worse.

[–] eldesgraciado@lemm.ee 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

That's a weird looking "8". Looks like an "S" with both ends joined by a diagonal.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 1 points 3 weeks ago

Clearly the police have too much power!

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca -1 points 3 weeks ago

This is why we back the blue
