Anarchism is a social movement that seeks liberation from oppressive systems of control including but not limited to the state, capitalism, racism, sexism, speciesism, and religion. Anarchists advocate a self-managed, classless, stateless society without borders, bosses, or rulers where everyone takes collective responsibility for the health and prosperity of themselves and the environment.

Giuseppe "Pino" Pinelli (1928 - 1969) was an Italian railroad worker and anarchist who fell to his death on this day in 1969 while being detained by Italian police. His death became the subject of the play "Accidental Death of an Anarchist" by Dario Fo.

Pinelli was a member of the Milan-based anarchist association named "Ponte della Ghisolfa", and was also the secretary of the Italian branch of the Anarchist Black Cross. He organized young anarchists in the "Gioventu Libertaria" (Libertarian Youth) in 1962 and helped found the "Sacco and Vanzetti anarchist association" in 1965.

A few days before Pinelli's death, Italian fascists from the "Ordine Nuovo" orchestrated a bombing campaign in Milan; one bomb in Piazza Fontana killed 17 people and injured 88. The bombing was blamed on Italian anarchists, and Pinelli was detained along with many other leftists, including Pietro Valpreda, who was falsely convicted and served eighteen years in prison.

Just before midnight on December 15th, 1969, Pinelli fell to his death from a fourth floor window of the Milan police station. Three police officers interrogating Pinelli, including Commissioner Luigi Calabresi, were put under investigation in 1971 for his death, but legal proceedings concluded it was due to accidental causes.

Calabresi was later gunned down at his home in 1972, for which left-wing journalist Adriano Sofri was convicted in 1997.

I'm enjoying all the bluesky people, feels like a very friendly group. Way less hostility than the federation influx. I have found the earnest usernames kinda funny by comparison to what's become the standard Hexbear username style of a reference to the most obscure communist you've never heard of or the weirdest pun ever (frequently both). Seeing names like AceTransCommunist is adorably not ironic.

Do you guys believe in aliens? Like there’s gotta at least be some bacteria that lived, or that used to live billions of years ago, on a planet billions of light years away

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 6 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I think the likelihood that life has only ever happened once in the universe is vanishingly low.

However, I also think the likelihood that aliens have crossed the vast expanse of space to come visit us is just about equally vanishingly low.

slightly talking about my mom and dog. cw: grief/deathIt's fine to say if I still miss my mom and dog right? I mean it should be fine. It just feels like that since my mom died last year, just that I have to move on. And same goes for my dog to who died like in september.

I dunno, lately I just miss them.

My vidya friends probably think I'm depressed right now because of my tendency to start up a game before getting distracted and leaving the menu open in the background all day. Still counts as in-game hours lol

sorry if this goes over the line of "no struggle session posting" but very funny that people are freaking out that hexbear is going to die due to mod overreach and then like 2 days later we get a bunch of new users because of the strict reputation of the mods lol

Ya know when someone random pops up in a dream? Just checked in on an old friend I haven’t seen since pre-COVID on Facebook to see what they’re up to because they were in my dream last night. Turns out they moved to Israel like 18 months ago and have been posting Zionist shit.

When I first met them they were a Jewish anti Zionist and now they’re literally an Israeli coloniser lol. What the hell. Feels like finding out somebody died.

Hello hexbear it is time to do your homework. I have made a question sheet, I expect to see the answers on my desk by tomorrow morning.

1: what are the main themes of "Combat Liberalism"? How do they compare to "Imperialism: the Highest Stage of Capitalism"? Are they similar?

2: Is Volodymr Zelenskyy a character foil or a parallel to Vladimir Putin?

3: Translate the following verbs to Spanish:

I follow

He says

They went

4: Will you change the world, or will the world change you? Will you give up your life for a struggle, to never see the results, to never even know if you would win or lose? Is there a point to perseverance in madness?

5: In what year did the 1917 October Revolution happen?

I liked the joker 2 (didn't see the first one though)

The musical numbers were meh but portrayed as the ramblings of joaquin phoenix and lady gaga, so it makes sense. I think it was entertaining and had a pretty clear message

I found these banana bread candles that I really like, so I've been burning a bunch of them here lately, but I'm afraid that I'm going to get burnt out on them πŸ˜…. They just smell so good.

If I were rich I'd hire a sniper to constantly miss me. Make it seem like I'm.really cool under pressure and that powerful people want me dead.

I'm absolutely stunned by this final Daft Punk track. I hadn't heard Infinities Repeating until I saw Interstella 5555, and I think this is one of their best songs. The chord progression with the bassline is just so emotional to me, I bawled my eyes out the first time hearing the song. I have no idea how this was left off of RAM, it's easily one of the most emotional tracks from the group
