And you - general megathread poster - yeah - just in case you accidentally wander into the news megathread one day, there are some things you should know, and one of them is that there is absolutely no evidence to support the statement that we're the greatest megathread in the world.

We're seventh in citations, twenty-seventh in accurate predictions, twenty-second in effortposts, forty-ninth in non-mainstream article posting, 178th in guessing when wars will start, third in powerusers, number four in dialectics, and number four in megathread exports. We lead Hexbear in only three categories: pointless infighting, number of adults who believe Putin is based, and copium manufacturing, where we produce more than the next twenty-six lemmy megathreads combined, twenty-five of whom are full of delusional liberals. None of this is the fault of any Hexbear user, but you, nonetheless, are without a doubt, a member of the WORST-period-GENERATION-period-EVER-period, so when you ask what makes us the greatest megathread in the world, I don't know what the fuck you're talking about! Jokes about whether they got a Zionist's semen in time?!

On the eve of the inauguration, the Venezuelan opposition shows weakness on the streets with empty rallies in Caracas. Opponents had hoped for a change of government before January 10 and are betting on US support to overthrow Maduro.

Huge Text

The dispute over the outcome of the elections is still an issue raised by the opposition, but the leaders coordinating this process seem to have abandoned ship. The former deputy, Maria Corina Machado, even made the call, but didn't show up. Machado has not appeared in public and the Venezuelan government even claimed that she was in Colombia. The former Unity Platform candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia, is in Spain and didn't take part in the event either.

The White House diplomacy, however, faces an internal dilemma with Venezuela. According to the Wall Street Journal, there is pressure from oil businessmen for Donald Trump's administration to take a more flexible line on sanctions against Caracas. One of them, according to the daily, is Harry Sargeant III, one of the main financiers of the Republican Party. According to the WSJ, he is trying to influence the Trump administration to free up the purchase of Venezuelan oil and negotiate with Maduro to support the control of illegal migration.

President Nicolás Maduro criticized Edmundo's statement on Monday (2). According to him, the former ambassador was not “capable of going on a march in Madrid”, where he lives. “How far are they going to take his show? It will be consigned to the dustbin of history,” he said.

María Corina Machado herself, who took part in marches after the elections, has left street mobilization aside. On the one hand, she claims to be being persecuted by the government and prevented from taking part in these demonstrations, but on the other she frustrates opponents who had hoped she would be present in some way. She even posted on social media asking her supporters to attend, but they didn't show up.

Opponents also called for the release of those arrested in the violent demonstrations on July 29. With balloons and candles, the demonstrators carried posters with the names of some of the people who had allegedly been arrested. Most of the demonstrators, however, did not know any of the people featured on the posters.

.

People are tired of this Juan Guaido shit, even those who dislike Maduro are fucking tired of this shit. The opposition does literally nothing useful besides be racist, lie, and cry for Israel and USA to bomb their country. No wonder literally no Venezuelan General has defected to their side, even though the Military is known for being reactionary.

U.S. authorities have found notes from Matthew Livelsberger, the U.S. Army soldier who committed suicide and detonated a Tesla 'Cybertruck' near the Trump International Hotel

Having been deployed to Afghanistan twice, he expressed in his writings a need to 'cleanse' his mind of lost comrades and the 'burden of lives he took.' He characterized his actions as a 'wake-up call' to a society that only pays attention to violence, warning that the U.S. was 'terminally ill and headed toward collapse.'

US LNG exports soar, Europe remaining the main destination

US LNG exports reached near record levels in December, rising to 8.5 million metric tonnes (MT) as two new plants started, and driving up full-year shipments 4.5% over 2023.

In 2024 Europe accounted for 55% of total US LNG exports, 34% of total US exports went to Asia while the next 11% went mainly to Latin America with a few cargoes to the Middle East, mainly to Egypt and Jordan, LSEG data showed.

I still don't really understand why Biden was considered decent on climate change, US hydrocarbon production continues climbing higher regardless of who's president.

The Pantomime King's Great Speech: Denmark Celebrates The Cult Of Mediocrity

Denmark, January 1st, 2025

Under the oppressive gloom of a grey, windy and rainy Danish winter, last night the nation’s eyes turned toward the imposing Amalienborg compound, a strictly laid-out collection of opulent rococo palaces in the heart of Copenhagen funded by the blood and sweat of enslaved Africans in the West Indies. Last night, this bastion of inherited privilege set the stage for the most sacred spectacle in Nordic hermit kingdom's official cult of personality, the monarch's annual new years eve speech.

The occasion was particularly historic—or farcical, depending on one’s perspective. Nearly a year ago, the nation's aging ceremonial figurehead, Queen Margrethe Glücksburg, abdicated in favor of her son and hand-picked successor, Frederik Montpezat, in a bloodless but wholly undemocratic transition of power. Last night, Frederik, a man born into power and spared the inconvenience of earning it, addressed his subjects for the first time in this annual exercise of carefully choreographed worship.

Countdown to Conformity

Across Denmark, millions huddled in their homes, tuning into state television’s relentless pre-speech coverage. For hours, anchors speculated breathlessly about a speech they had not yet heard, as if deciphering holy scripture. Leading up to the address, viewers were treated to the Changing of the Guard—a bizarrely choreographed act of conscripts in 19th century costume goose-stepping to commands barked by NCOs adorned with heaps of medals of dubious origin as a military band plays the king's theme song, a jingoistic anthem filled with gory details about crushing the skulls of Swedes. The pageantry was as polished as it was pointless, an overture to the banality yet to come.

The Stage Is Set for Mediocrity

When the speech finally began, the aesthetic was an affront to both tradition and taste. Gone was Queen Margrethe’s cluttered, knick-knack-filled office, replaced by a barren room awash in garish blue lighting — more befitting a teenage gamer’s Twitch stream than the gravitas of a head of state.

At the center of this barren tableau stood a desk and chair, as unremarkable as the man who would soon occupy them. Through an open doorway, viewers could glimpse generic black-and-white family photos that wouldn’t look out of place in a bland and beige living room in an IKEA catalogue. “This is the king showing personality,” we were meant to believe.

Enter Frederik Montpezat, a slim bearded man wearing a dark suit and round glasses, his movements stiff and mechanical despite hours of rehearsal. There's only so much that even the finest walking lessons in the kingdom can do. The king's deer-in-the-headlights expression as he looked into the camera was pure amateur theater, and every nervous tap on the desk was amplified by state television’s hapless sound engineers. If this was Denmark’s sovereign, one could only assume the nation was in more dire straits than it realized.

A Puppet King, Reading from a Script

The speech itself was a work of the Nordic hermit kingdom's true seat of power, the Social Democrat-controlled Prime Minister’s Office, with the king only being trusted to add a few anecdotes and phrases for a personal touch. It was a symphony of centrist clichés. Frederik began with syrupy platitudes about Denmark’s youth, hollow gratitudes for public displays of loyalty surrounding the recent transition of power, and obligatory nods to the police and military.

Adhering to royal tradition, Frederik eschewed a teleprompter, instead fumbling with loose papers like a nervous student in a high school debate. In a moment of forced gravitas he mentioned Greenland and stared into the camera exclaiming that "we belong together!"—a veiled jab at his soon-to-be overlord, incoming American supreme leader Donald Trump.

Polarization Bad, NATO Good

The king lamented the dangers of so-called “polarization,” offering a trite endorsement of centrist complacency as the antidote to ideological passion. A convenient point of view for a man whose privilege depends on the status quo. Yet, no sooner had he decried division than he launched into uncritical praise of Ukraine’s disastrous war effort, describing their catastrophic and futile human sacrifices as a noble fight for European freedom. His silence on the Palestinian struggle for liberation spoke volumes; only conflicts convenient to NATO narratives are exempt from the king's call for nuance and restraint.

Predictably, the king heaped praise on the American military organisation NATO, portraying the alliance as a benevolent force for peace rather than the instrument of imperialist violence and terror the rest of the world sees it as.

The Comedic Climate King

In a particularly galling display of hypocrisy, Frederik pontificated about green responsibility. This echoes similar sentiments expressed in a manifesto he released shortly after last year's tradition of power, leading regime-loyal media to brand him as "the climate king".

However, his saccharine green drivel had a comedic timing given how reports on the royal family's extensive investments in fossil fuels, mining and companies abetting zionist apartheid had surfaced mere days before the speech. In the King's own words "Nobody own the skies or the sea. The forests or the valleys. The meadows or the stars" — but somebody owns the oil wells, the refineries and the strip mines and Frederik Montpezat is one of those people. His words were not so much inspirational as they were a masterclass in unintentional self-parody.

Frederik’s grand finale was as unremarkable as the man himself. Clenching his fists on the desk as if bracing for an earthquake, he stared into the camera with a frozen, panicked expression and declared, “God save Denmark!” It was less a rallying cry than a plea for deliverance.

A Kingdom In Denial

No sooner had the screen faded to black than state television launched into a frenzy of uncritical adulation, displaying all the journalistic integrity of trained seals clapping at feeding-time, working hard to convince the public that the display of amateurism they had just witnessed was indeed an inspiring oratory performance.

Interviews with rain-soaked royalists outside the palace revealed a cult-like devotion, with supporters gushing about the honor of being in proximity to a man whose sole achievement was being born into the right family.

Frederik Montpezat’s debut was less a display of leadership than a grim reminder of the monarchy’s irrelevance. Yet, the Danish state continues to celebrate this mediocrity, perpetuating a cult of personality that blinds its people to the monarchy’s archaic absurdity.

As fireworks illuminated Copenhagen’s skies and the nation raised glasses to its king, one question lingered: does Denmark truly believe that the emperor is wearing his new clothes, or is it simply too invested in the fantasy to admit otherwise?

New information from The Washington Post claims that the 37-year-old soldier shot himself in the head before the Tesla cybertruck exploded in front of the Trump International hotel in Las Vegas. Authorities have identified the victim of the Cybertruck explosion in Las Vegas: Matthew Livelsberger, an active-duty soldier in the elite Green Berets.

He worked at Fort Bragg, California and for the last 3 months had been working as a “Remote and Autonomous Systems Manager” for the US Army.

The FBI is investigating the motives of Matthew, who died inside Tesla's Cybertruck. A curious connection has been pointed out by them: Matthew and Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar (ex-military who ran over dozens in New Orleans) worked at Fort Bragg, but at different times, officials say.

Messi misses Presidential Medal ceremony with Biden

Lionel Messi was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States, by President Joe Biden on Saturday but did not attend the ceremony at the White House. The Argentine World Cup winner and eight times Ballon d'Or winner, now plays in the United States for Major League Soccer's Inter Miami.

Messi is the first Argentine to receive the honor and the first male soccer player. But while other recipients of the award, including U2 singer and activist Bono, former basketball star Earvin "Magic" Johnson and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, attended the ceremony at the White House, Messi was absent.

Messi's representatives said in a statement distributed by Inter Miami that Messi had a prior commitment. "The White House informed FIFA, who informed the club at the end of December that Leo was going to be awarded with this recognition," the statement read.

"Leo, through the club, sent a letter to the White House saying that he is deeply honored and that it is a profound privilege to receive this recognition but that due to scheduling conflicts and prior commitments he was going to be unable to attend. "He appreciated the gesture and noted that he hopes to have the opportunity to meet in the near future," the statement added.

Milei's labor reform proposes 12-hour working days and partial payment in vouchers.

The Milei government is threatening labor rights and is proposing to make vacations more flexible, to waive collective bargaining agreements and to provide severance pay in up to 12 installments. The bill, dubbed the Investment and Employment Promotion Law, is expected to be presented at the start of the 2025 legislative year in March.

The proposal, spearheaded by parliamentarians such as Romina Diez, José Luis Espert and Gabriel Bornoroni, combines tax breaks for companies with far-reaching changes to labor regulations. Among the measures are the possibility of working hours of up to 12 hours without overtime pay, the flexibilization of vacations and the introduction of vouchers as a form of partial payment of salary - a practice that dates back to the 1990s and is widely criticized for not being considered official pay.

The proposal also affects the granting of vacations, allowing them to be divided into individual weeks and distributed throughout the year, provided there is an agreement between employer and employee. Another relevant change is the possibility for workers to waive collective bargaining agreements, making them responsible for negotiating directly with companies. This measure is criticized for weakening union protection and reducing employees' bargaining power because it is not considered official remuneration.

The General Confederation of Labor (CGT), Argentina's main trade union body, is still evaluating the proposal. Although the CGT has shown a willingness to engage in dialogue, union leaders in various regions of the country have already expressed concern about the impact of these measures on labor rights. Critics point out that the reform weakens worker protection in the name of a liberal agenda, which was one of Milei's main campaign promises.

In Croatia, the incumbent president, Zoran Milanovic, won the presidential elections. He was noted for his constant criticism of arms supplies and spending money on Ukraine. He is considered to be close in views to Orban and Fico. But unlike them, in Croatia he has far fewer real powers.

In December 2021, Milanović criticised prime minister Plenković's visit to Ukraine made at the start of a new escalation of the crisis over Ukraine calling it "plain charlatanism". The prime minister responded by saying that the government sought to maintain good relations with Russia too.

Harsh reaction from Ukraine's government followed Milanović's statements made on 25 January 2022 about Ukraine not being fit to join NATO, as well the country being corrupt and Russia deserving to be given a way to have its security demands met. Milanović also referred to the 2014 Maidan Revolution in Ukraine as a "coup d'état".

Milanović supported the expansion of same-sex couples' rights and introduced the Life Partnership Act. During 2012, a Law on medically assisted fertilization was enacted, health education was introduced in all elementary and high schools, and Milanović announced further expansion of rights for same-sex couples. The referendum, organized by the citizen initiative For the family of Željka Markić, proposed an amendment that would define marriage as a union between a man and a woman, thus creating a constitutional prohibition against same-sex marriage. Milanović opposed the proposal and told HRT that he would vote against it.

In October 2023, Milanović criticized Israel's retaliatory strikes on the Gaza Strip, saying: "I condemned [Hamas'] murders, I even expressed disgust and abhorrence, but the right to defense does not include the right to revenge and the killing of civilians." In October 2024, he compared "Netanyahu's regime" to Putin and said that for him: "both Netanyahu and Putin are defendants on International Criminal Court"

Some news agencies say he won and others say there will be a second round. It seems that this Zoran Milanović is like the social-liberal version of Robert Fico. He's a socdem, critical of Ukraine, but he doesn't seem to openly support homophobia or xenophobia against other Slavs. I'd also like to say that it really annoys me when you go to Wikipedia or news outlets and they report that a presidential/executive candidate is “independent”. They are not even independent, they literally have parties supporting them and openly say that these people are their candidates.

China's CR450: A new era of high-speed rail at 400 km/h

ArticleThe CR450 high-speed train prototype, unveiled in Beijing on Sunday, is capable of reaching a test speed of 450 km/h and an operational speed of 400 km/h. This achievement makes it the fastest high-speed train in the world once it enters commercial service, surpassing China's current CR400, which operates at 350 km/h.

According to China State Railway Group, which led the development, the CR450 excels in key areas such as operational speed, energy efficiency, noise control, and braking performance, setting new global benchmarks. Despite its higher speed, the CR450 maintains braking distances similar to those of trains running at 350 km/h—thanks to significant engineering advancements. These design enhancements ensure the train's stability, performance, and safety at higher speeds.

The CR450 prioritizes passenger comfort, offering a smooth and quiet ride even at 400 km/h. Advanced noise-reduction technologies ensure that interior noise levels are comparable to those of 350 km/h trains, providing a peaceful travel experience.

A standout feature of the CR450 is its exceptional energy efficiency. The train has reduced running resistance by 22 percent and cut its weight by 10 percent, improving fuel efficiency. Despite the increased speed, these optimizations minimize energy consumption, ensuring sustainability at higher operational speeds.

The train's interior has been redesigned for added comfort and convenience, increasing cabin space by 4 percent. Adjustable luggage racks and a versatile storage area accommodate passenger needs, including bicycles, wheelchairs, and other items. These innovations anticipate potential regulatory changes in passenger transport.

The CR450 prototype was developed by CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles and CRRC Sifang Co., Ltd., each contributing slightly different interior designs but with a shared focus on passenger comfort and high-quality travel experiences.

The development of the CR450 is the culmination of years of research and technological innovation, which began in 2018 with the goal of operating trains at 400 km/h. Extensive testing has been conducted across major high-speed rail lines, including Zhengzhou-Wanzhou, Jinan-Zhengzhou, Mile-Mengzi, and Fuzhou-Xiamen. Over 200 days of high-speed testing and 17 component trials have been completed, with a cumulative test distance exceeding 200,000 kilometers. The prototype has undergone more than 3,000 simulations and over 2,000 platform tests to meet the rigorous demands of 400 km/h operations.

China State Railway Group has announced that further line tests and refinements will ensure the train meets all necessary standards for commercial operation. The goal is to make this cutting-edge technology available to passengers soon.

Li Yongheng, an official from China State Railway Group, stated that since 2012, China's railway sector has independently developed a series of scientific and technological innovation products, exemplified by the Fuxing high-speed electrical multiple unit (EMU). This development has established a comprehensive high-speed rail (HSR) technology system encompassing engineering construction, equipment manufacturing, and operations management.

"China's high-speed railway system has taken a historic leap, shifting from a follower to a global leader. Its HSR technology has set an international benchmark," Li said.

"To further consolidate and boost China's leading edge in HSR technology, and better serve and support Chinese modernization, our company, along with relevant ministries, organizations, research institutes, universities, and enterprises, has formed an innovative team to tackle key technological challenges," he added.

Zhao Hongwei, chief researcher at the China Academy of Railway Sciences, highlighted the technological breakthroughs of the CR450 EMU, including advancements in high-speed safety, resistance reduction, energy efficiency, vibration and noise reduction, and intelligent fusion control technologies. These innovations have established a comprehensive technical framework for the 400 km/h high-speed train, setting a new standard in global rail transport.

Wang Wenjing, a professor at the School of Mechanical, Electrical and Control Engineering at Beijing Jiaotong University, discussed the challenge of achieving a lightweight design that balances speed and energy efficiency. The BJTU team focused on optimizing load-bearing components, especially the bogie and car body, through simulations and bench tests. Advanced materials like carbon fiber were incorporated to reduce weight while maintaining strength, ensuring safety and durability at high speeds.

Sui Fusheng, a researcher at the Institute of Acoustics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, emphasized the complexity of balancing weight reduction with noise control. The team developed integrated composite materials that provide both thermal insulation and soundproofing. These innovations reduce material costs and complexity while improving passenger comfort by controlling temperature and noise levels. Despite the challenges, the team's solutions have set the stage for quieter, more efficient high-speed rail travel.

The CR450 EMU exemplifies China's innovation-driven development strategy and demonstrates the country's scientific and technological capabilities. It reflects the advantages of China's socialist system, fostering self-reliance in railway science and technology and contributing to the modernization of the railway industrial system.

Over the past 15 years, China has built the world's largest and most advanced high-speed rail network, spanning over 160,000 kilometers, including more than 46,000 kilometers of high-speed rail lines.

South Korean police tried to arrest ousted former president Yoon Suk-yeol on charges of abuse of power and insurrection. Yoon, who is facing impeachment, ignored three summonses to testify, which led to the arrest request.

Before the police operation, Yoon Suk-yeol made a public appeal to his supporters to resist the arrest warrant. In a statement released at his official residence, he asked them to “fight together against anti-state forces”.

Hundreds of supporters responded to the call and gathered at the site, forming human barriers to prevent the police from entering. Many carried South Korean and US flags. In addition, military personnel clashed with the police.

Yesterday I posted that LE suspected individuals on a surveillance video of being involved which I thought was odd and unlikely for this sort of circumstance (because for several reasons this kind of thing you would expect to be a sole individual whether he was a fed patsy or not)

Turns out it appears it was just shitty police work they were prob just workers setting prepping for the event or something

In spite of this there’s still cop sources saying multiple people involved is likely.

My take? The reason you hear pigs talk about how they suspect others to be involved is because of the sheer amount of materials he had/planning is rightfully raising alarms in cop brains. Others WERE involved they were just other pigs. Not all of the pigs are on the same page about this and once this becomes clear we will get small blurbs of confirmation and all talk about that will evaporate in the media

Brazil and Mexico Confirm Their Presence at the Inauguration of Nicolas Maduro - Telesur English

Article

This gesture from Brazil complements the announcement made by the new Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaum, who has also expressed her intention to attend the ceremony in Caracas. Jan 2nd, 2025.

However, it has not yet been determined whether an official mission will be sent from Mexico or whether the ambassador to Venezuela will act as a representative.

The government of Brazil, under the leadership of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, has decided to participate in the inauguration ceremony of the re-elected president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, scheduled for January 10, 2025.

The confirmation was made by sources from the Itamaraty Palace, who announced that the Brazilian diplomat in Caracas, Gilvania de Oliveira, will represent the country at this important event.

This gesture from Brazil complements the announcement made by the new Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaum, who has also expressed her intention to attend the ceremony in Caracas.

However, it has not yet been determined whether an official mission will be sent from Mexico or whether the ambassador to Venezuela will act as a representative.

The Brazilian government’s decision comes in a context where social movements in the country have expressed their support for Maduro.

In a letter to Lula, these groups formally requested recognition of the electoral victory of the Venezuelan president, who obtained 51.20% of the vote in the elections held on July 28, 2024.

The presence of Brazil and Mexico at the inauguration symbolizes a rapprochement and support for the Maduro administration at a crucial moment for Venezuelan politics, highlighting the importance of diplomatic relations in the region.

This event could also be seen as a step towards consolidating cooperation between the progressive governments of Latin America.

An update from the Yemeni Armed Forces on last night's operations:

Interesting points: the use of a Zulfiqar ballistic missile in the attack. Now the original Zulfiqar missile only has a range of 700km, so not long enough to hit Israel from Yemen. Dezful, the second missile in the Zulfiqar series, only has 1000km range. The longest range missile in the Zulfiqar missile series is the Martyr Haj Qasem missile, named after Qasem Soleimani. It has a larger solid fueled booster stage, and a stated range of 1400km. All missiles in the Zulfiqar series have Maneuverable Re-entry Vehicles (MaRVs). I think, given the range requirements of hitting Israel from Yemen (+-2000km), the Martyr Haj Qasem ballistic missile was used on a depressed trajectory with a lighter warhead or extended glide phase for the MaRV. The combat debut of this missile. It also matches the piece of debris seen last night which didn't match any missiles used before, the coupling that connects the larger booster stage with the smaller Zulfiqar warhead. But that's just a guess from me.

Second interesting point: another attack on the US Navy using only cruise missiles and drones. No anti ship ballistic missiles (ASBM) used, for the second time in a row. Last time this was a success, causing an F/A-18F aircraft to be downed by friendly fire as a result. But the ASBMs are the most threatening weapons to the US Navy. With Ansar Allah having Zulfiqar series ballistic missiles, let's hope that they can get the Zulfiqar Basir, the ASBM version. It will give them longer range compared to the Tankil ASBM which based on the Zoheir with 500km range.

In response, the US carried out a large nighttime and daytime air raid on Sana'a, over 10 strikes reported. Video from CENTCOM shows the use of FA-18 aircraft during the night, and Tomahawk cruise missile launches during the day.

Well hexbear was down this morning but as I’m sure most of you are aware by now, someone ran a bunch of people over in the French quarter in New Orleans last night (10 deaths I think with dozens injured)

What a start to the year :/ No motive yet but they were killed in a police shootout. This individual had a rifle, body armor and (I think) an IED that they didn’t get to use. The assailant used a pickup truck to run these people over

Edit:

Update on IED(s) from the guardian

Appears this could have been a lot worse potentially

Edit 2: name released

A very curious coincidence… Yesterday, a Tesla Cybertruck outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas blew up, killing the driver and wounding seven bystanders. Now investigators identified the driver as a 37-year-old Green Beret (specifically, an “intelligence and operations specialist”), that had been pictured in social media wearing a shirt with the Ukrainian Neo-Nazi slogan “Slava Ukraini” on it: https://www.rt.com/news/610363-vegas-cybertruck-suspect-ukraine/

Seriously what’s going on between Brazil and China?

On Dec 23rd, 2024, Brazilian authorities halted the construction of BYD factory after Chinese construction workers were found living in “slavery-like” conditions. This would have been the first BYD factory outside Asia and a significant expansion into Latin America. On Dec 27th, Brazil had stopped issuing temporary work visa to BYD, with the factory merely three months away from completing its construction.

Very conveniently, on the same day, China launched an investigation into its beef import, citing that oversupply has caused a squeeze on its domestic price.

Any trade measures to try to reduce beef imports would hit China's largest suppliers, Brazil, Argentina and Australia.

China's total beef imports reached $14.2 billion in 2023, surging from $8.2 billion in 2019, customs data show. Brazil accounted for 42% of the total trade value, followed by Argentina at 15% and Australia at 12%.

This is clearly pointed towards Brazil. Is this China sending a warning shot to Brazil that they better not interfere with the BYD incident? Will Brazil fold to China’s pressure? Seriously, what’s going on? I hope they don’t start fighting or something.

Milei government orders closure of museum against dictatorship in Argentina.

Museum honored Argentine writer kidnapped and disappeared during the military dictatorship in Argentina. Javier Milei's government has ordered the closure of the Haroldo Conti Cultural Memory Center, considered one of the largest museums in Argentina against the country's military dictatorship. The measure was ordered by the Argentine Secretary for Human Rights, Alberto Baños.

Created in 2008, the museum pays homage to the Argentine writer Haroldo Conti, who was kidnapped and disappeared in 1976, when the military ruled Argentina. In addition to recovering the memory of the country's leaden times, the museum promoted theater, literature, dance, photography and education activities. Baños announced the museum's closure on December 31, in a WhatsApp message to employees who worked there. The measure came into force on Thursday (2/1).
