Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Image is of Trudeau and Trump together at Mar-a-Lago in November 2024. Source is here.

The Liberals, headed by Trudeau, have not been doing so hot lately. Polls have been rather poor, showing the party far behind the Conservatives, and the Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland (an outspoken apologist for Ukrainian Nazis) resigned recently, with more MPs following her lead. Trump's return to power has shaken the Canadian establishment due to his threats to impose massive tariffs on Mexico and Canada, which will have substantial economic consequences given that Canada sends most of its exports to the US, compounding the economic malaise that has affected most of the world over the last few years.

With all this bad news, there are rumors and reports that Trudeau will soon resign, ending his nine years of rule. His fall would be yet another casualty in the wave of incumbent parties falling across the imperial core, only to be replaced by more conservative parties that have very similar policies but wish to cast all blame and hardship onto minorities.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news.
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon. - Telegram is @IbnRiad.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis. - Telegram is @EyesOnSouth.
English-language Twitter account in the same group as the previous two. - Telegram here.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.
https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.
https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.
https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

The Brazilian government filed an out-of-court notice for Meta to explain the possible effects of changes in Facebook and Instagram guidelines.

Government lawyers gave a 72-hour deadline for an explanation of the alterations in fact checking and fake news that may affect children, adolescents and women, for example.

In addition, a government working group was created with consultation to the rest of the Powers and civil society to follow up on the measures to protect freedom of expression, without tolerating the violation of fundamental rights.

I've heard news that the laws are changing in Brazil. Lula da Silva wanted congress to vote in favor of a social media system, like the one in China and some US states, where you would have to provide your ID to create an account, so if you posted Nazism or Racism, the company could easily inform the police/courts who did that. The congress, mostly right-wing and far-right, refused to vote, and Google, Facebook and X even held meetings with these politicians and there was a huge ad paid for by Google, every time you searched for something, an ad on Google Brazil would appear saying something like: “Congress is voting to destroy freedom of expression”.

The Supreme Court has had enough of this, and now the Supreme Court justices are voting to hold companies responsible for everything a user posts on social media. And there's nothing these companies can do about it, because the only people who can interfere with the Supreme Court are the President of the Republic and the President of the Senate, who don't care about these companies.

A long and not super worthwhile article by kagan on ukraine and trump. There's nothing really to learn from this beyond the change to pessimism from once stalwart ukraine dick riders from the US foreign policy blob. The jist of it is that Trump is inclined to bail on project ukraine but doesn't want to look like a loser. In this way, trump's circumstances mirror his rhetoric - he is the same as his predecessors but is gauche about it.

The shift from "bringing the war to an end on day one" to "hoping to wrap it up in 6 months" (paraphrased) suggests a return to A Decent Interval thought, similar to Vietnam in the early 70s and Afghanistan in 2021.

I don't think Biden wanted to bail on ukraine at all, the opposite actually.

[–] carpoftruth@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Sure, but Biden's brain is soup. The foreign policy blob as a whole has definitely been looking for a way out, evidenced by all the think tank and prestigious western press articles about exits and how to wind this thing up.

There’s certainly a mix of true believers and cut-and-runners, and that mix has been getting much and much heavier towards the latter

President Nicolás Maduro awards decorations to Venezuelan officials and high-ranking government officials who were sanctioned by the US, the EU and Canada after the swearing-in of the Venezuelan president.

The regional Jutland branch of DBU, Denmark's football association, has voted down a proposal for allowing amateur transgender, intersex and non-binary players to self-identity their gender. Out of 250 delegates only 34 voted in favour of the proposal. The Jutland branch is the largest regional branch of DBU and the first where such a proposal has been put up for a vote.

To judge from reporting on the vote, delegates voted against under the influence of the same transphobic moral panic against trans-female athletes that has plagued many other countries.

As (COTW) Canada starts with the ability to Farm tundra tiles , you first rush Animal Husbandary to unlook camps, then rush Temple of Artemis to get the amanities in you Tundra capital , as you nearly always have a camp. then its mostly empie building (dont forget to get the Kremlin) until you unlook the Mounties , Mounties are extremly Op ,they have 2 charges to create a National Park ( so worth 3000 Faith per unit basiclly) and Tundra tiles often have high appeal . So you can Bomb National Parks accross you Nation to get ridiculus amounts of Amenities. All While you advance with you Eco Fascist Horse Lord Mounties ,founding National Parks in the Pillaged Conquered Lands to keep the new citizens in Line.

Its a very strong Nation , with the Downsite of it beeing Canada. So you dont actually want to lead it to glory.

In a last-minute move, Biden sanctions what is basically the entire world regarding AI chips. There are now 3 tier countries, with tier 1 with unlimited access, tier 2 with 50.000 AI units limit and tier 3 countries with strictest restrictions. Tier 1 is (shrunk down list of) "always the same map" countries, Tier 3 China, Russia and friends, Tier 2 the rest of the world.

Interestingly enough, Tier 2 includes Portugal, Switzerland, Austria, all the ~~Nazi~~ Baltic states and Poland (heh heh). This could mean even gamers could have a hard time, or more likely no chance at all due to red tape, business demand, or inflated price, getting the upcoming Nvidia's strongest RTX 5090s in those countries.

Bloomberg article on archive link: https://archive.ph/UKYTp

[–] Boise_Idaho@hexbear.net 43 points 2 days ago

Tier 1 doesn't include the Zionist entity. The Isreal-to-China tech transfer pipeline must be real lmao

[–] kittin@hexbear.net 39 points 2 days ago (1 children)

He’s not sanctioning the world.

He’s sanctioning nvidia.

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 24 points 2 days ago

This is Biden opening a huge market for Chinese manufacturers.

It's same as paranoia around quantum computer systems (i think 150 qubit is restriction for the non-crackers). They aren't yet, but they could be dangerous. Sam altman said so, and why would he lie.

[–] SexUnderSocialism@hexbear.net 38 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

When even r/neoliberal is shitting on you for sanctioning the entire planet. brump
