Anytime some dumbass starts saying that China is a threat I tell them about the time China tear gassed my neighborhood and beat a bunch of my friends for being outside after curfew.

Oh wait no that wasn't China that was my own American government right here at home.

China hasn't done shit to me there literally zero reason to be afraid of them even if you assume all of the ridiculous propaganda is true. Meanwhile here at home my own government is destroying the lives of people I love every single day. Who is the real enemy?

I always like to end that story by saying that after we ran home, we saw some other folks ..total strangers to us... running from the cops too and brought them inside for some iced tea and snacks so they could wait the cops out.

They brought us a huge baggie of really nice weed the following day.

In my city a few years ago white supremacists marched through the streets without a permit. Then an hour later we had a permitted protest for black rights and an end to police brutality. A comrade of mine stepped off the sidewalk with one foot. The cops beat her so badly she was hospitalized for a week.

This was in the Tampa Bay area, not some backwoods town in Mississippi.

Reddit is going to be the bastion of anti-China denialism until the servers shut off. China is going to continue becoming increasingly influencial in the world and people will start to learn more about China as a result of it and see that hey things are actually not as bad as we thought and maybe they're actually pretty good. But Reddit will just continue to accuse everyone of being bots and repeating Tiananmen Square.
