Hear me out, guys. What if, in the distant future, cars are self driving and sentient. And in that same future, what if people riding bikes kept hitting into those sentient cars. And those cars kept getting injured and dying because people riding bicycles kept riding selfishly and going into the car lanes and hitting the poor innocent cars. Those cars would be pretty traumatised by the bicycle people.

Fuck people riding bicycles are fucking dicks.

I just realised I haven't eaten any meat in 8 days and only once for all of January. Not even on purpose. Being vegetarian is easier than I thought.

He also tweets yearly about the earth arbitrarily going around the sun when everyone is blasting NYE posts. It's fucking weird.

What if aliens from the sentient air planet come to earth and see us breathing

What if aliens from the chair planet see us sitting on chairs

What if poop aliens come and see that we flush poop down our toilets

[–] __nobodynowhere@lemm.ee 8 points 20 hours ago

I'd watch a Twilight Zone episode about poop aliens

Astrophysicist thinks baby carrots are infant carrots

This is possibly the dumbest "own" to vegans I've ever seen.

"WHAT IF SOMETHING TOTALLY DIFFERENT FROM REALITY HAPPENED, I BET YOU'D BE PRETTY OWNED"

Come on, man

[–] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 26 points 22 hours ago

Except even in this reality it still makes no sense.

The animals we raise are being fed plants that we grow, so eating animals is just accelerated plant genocide.

But more importantly, I think the aliens that are smart enough to make it to this planet will understand that our planet works differently in how energy flows through our ecosystem. I don't think the sentient plants that developed space travel capabilities are going to scratch their heads at what an animal is.

“What if there were mushroom people from the mushroom planet”

“They’d be so fucking mad at you for eating shiitake”

“That’s their bro, dude”

“Hand me the brain of that non conceptual pig that demonstrated the ability to do numerical discrimination before i murdered it for food. Yummerz”

"often i'm asked, what if the world was made of pudding, and now we know, if you go into the geological research on this, we know the world isn't made of putting, but people are still obsessed with this, so i think, okay, imagine the world was made of pudding, first of all, agriculture, which we've been doing as a species for longer than recorded history, we wouldn't be able to FARM, we wouldn't be able to plant crops or anything like that! and if anything, if the world were made of pudding and somehow no one had realized this, uh, abundant food source sitting right under their feet, then there wouldn't be enough food to sustain all humanity, let alone other animals. so i think in some ways it's a very illuminating question but chuckles perhaps not quite in the way these people think."

[–] MF_COOM@hexbear.net 41 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Lmao that's so awesome what a dumbfuck hey did you ever think what if plants were sentient then you'd be the bad one didn't think of that checkmate vegans smuglord

[–] axont@hexbear.net 5 points 20 hours ago

Literally the plot of Troll 2

[–] qcop@hexbear.net 37 points 1 day ago

Neil: "Listen, listen" proceeds to describe what humans do to sentient beings literally fucking right now as somehow a gotcha to vegans

The guy is like a lib saying socialism is bad and then proceeding to describe capitalism as examples of said things lmao.

[–] Antiwork@hexbear.net 23 points 1 day ago

Suppose their was a pig and it had shit falling off its balls

[–] Robert_Kennedy_Jr@hexbear.net 27 points 1 day ago (2 children)

This is just a nerd version of people trotting out the "Well look at this study that shows plants send chemical signals when they're in distress, this is the same as dunking chickens in vats of boiling oil."

[–] Aradina@lemmy.ml 31 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Which is an arguement for veganism too, since most plants grown are used for animal feed

[–] machiabelly@hexbear.net 6 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

70% of farmland is used to create 30% of calories.

[–] Rojo27@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago

This. I've seen chuds on social media posting this shit for a while now. Just another case of a lib siding with right wingers.

[–] VapeNoir@hexbear.net 11 points 22 hours ago

Oh wow i never considered (hackneyed sci fi premise).

[–] Ishmael@hexbear.net 15 points 23 hours ago

This is worse than I thought it was going to be, please tell me it's a bit...

[–] Robert_Kennedy_Jr@hexbear.net 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

A user on HB mentioned once that he likely says a bunch of dumb debate pervert statements to push his SA accusations down the SEO rankings.

[–] HumanBehaviorByBjork@hexbear.net 6 points 19 hours ago

that seems a bit convoluted and conspiratorial. although i could believe he acts stupid for attention because it's his brand.

[–] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 11 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Lmao he's literally doing the "carrot juice is murder" bit from the Arrogant Worms

Never liked this guy. Just exudes smug and is every negative stereotype of a STEM lord.

How do people in the Pokémon world know that Bounsweet and Cherubi are sweet?

[–] Abracadaniel@hexbear.net 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah he's just an science communicator with an astronomy background. I don't think he's ever come across as a particularly skilled debater or deep thinker.

[–] dat_math@hexbear.net 8 points 1 day ago

skilled debater or deep thinker

very much the opposite in TAFS

[–] BeamBrain@hexbear.net 11 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

You should eat more beef to stop the cows from doing grass genocide

no doubt, this is the guy who likes to eat meat so much he ate all the wings on hot ones

Him: I consent

Her: I consent

The baby carrot: erm, isn't there someone you forgot to ask?

[–] bloup@lemmy.sdf.org 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Wild to think that a sentient anything would relate to something else on the basis of how it derives energy more than on the basis of how it personally experiences the world.

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

I had low expectations, and I hate how even those expectations weren't met in any capacity... badeline-concern

Anti-veganism is already very silly, but this is a brand new fantastical level of deep unseriousness.

[–] CrawlMarks@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (1 children)

As much as I like the guy, he did get a credible me too. Only it was before liberals were pretending to care so nothing came of it. Sometimes the way he talks you can just tell though. Also, despite that you want him to be good because there are so few science guys anymore that it hurts to lose one even if they are shitty.

[–] carpoftruth@hexbear.net 11 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago) (1 children)

Cw description of ndt being a sex pest

spoilerIt's beyond credible, he agreed and admitted to reaching under the shoulder of that woman's dress looking for pluto in her tattoo. His account of sexually harassing his assistant is basically the same as hers as well. The only one he actually denied was drugging and removed-ing that other grad student in the 80s.

[–] CrawlMarks@hexbear.net 5 points 21 hours ago

Oh wow, it is worse than I realized. That is unfortunate

[–] Dragon@lemmy.ml 3 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I don't think this is supposed to be an argument against veganism. I think he's pontificating about a silly thought experiment.

[–] qcop@hexbear.net 3 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

Nah, he had a whole chapter dedicated to anti-veganism in his book Starry Messenger.

Here's a video containing other examples of his ridiculous claims on the subject.

[–] Dragon@lemmy.ml 2 points 12 hours ago

Oh wow yeah this is pretty dumb
