Every proposal will also be mirrored into a pinned post on the hexbear community.

Well I guess this is one way to get the feds to never notice us.
But seriously, is there a lifeboat active in case this kind of thing happens again? Thankfully I'm friends with some users online but not every poster is. I remember for the old subreddit we did a discord life boat weeks in advance.
There's too many admins for a site this small, this was bound to happen eventually. Someone with the damn keys gets canceled or whatever and takes it out on the site. Oh well.
I got 20 dollars that says some lib wins the bid and links the domain to the Tiananmen square massacre Wikipedia page to try and dunk on us lmao
If we end up with a new domain, does that mean we can federate with the lib instances again and go back to dunking and general joy?
this is at least 79% funny
this is what happens under socialism
everyone shares the same website and then it gets killed by the CIA
Can someone email me when the new URL is up? My email is KnilAdlez@fbi.gov
I sent a message to SAV explaining the situation to see if there's anything they can do.
There has recently been a lapse in domain registration for the site hexbear.net and said domain has entered the auction phase.
This domain is currently hosting an active site with many daily users, the previous domain holder has vanished and the lapse in payment was not something the current administration team was able to rectify without their information.
Currently, the site has been redirected to chapo.chat, but losing the hexbear.net registration will pose a large security risk for users of the site as a malicious actor could MITM them.
If there is any way we could transfer domain ownership to someone affiliated with the current site's administration team, possibly paying a fine for missed payment and ending the auction it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Eh, we had a good run (allegedly)
those USAID cuts messed us up /j
Just glad no one got arrested probably.
The two wolves inside of me, of this being really funny, but also it making me sad.
I imagine a lot of people don't realize chapo.chat still works to connect, not sure if there's a good way to communicate that. Also I'm kind of curious what people are trying to win the bidding war for the domain. Likely no one good if I had to guess.
Wait, I just realized, the auction doesn't end for 9 days lol.
I swear if you name the site anything bean related I'll do nothing (threateningly)
beanis.org is available
really glad I didn't namedrop the site and just referred to it obliquely at the party this weekend lmao.
If you (admins) decide you do want to participate in the bidding war, I am willing to front the cash as long as it doesn't get too outrageous and we could set up donations afterwards for me to recoup what I can. I realize that it's like the lowest form of charitable donation imaginable, but a lot of people (myself included) get a lot of positive mental health benefits out of this community and I'd hate to see it lose a whole bunch of members because they weren't able to figure out what happened or where we all disappeared to.
Message me if you want to discuss it further.
we have a plan to mitigate any security issues of losing hexbear.net and have a handful of people willing to pitch-in for the hexbear.net domain. we are exploring what it would look like to change domains, and as such want to involve the user base in what the name change would be. there are a number of folks interested in helping with the cost of obtaining hexbear.net so that is undoubtedly an option as well
Lmao, good thing I was still using the same chapo.chat bookmark from 5 years ago 😎
spoiler
5 years?!?!?!?!
this is very funny. what are we going to change our name to this time?
anyway unfortunate that it happened, but it sounds like the admins aren't that much to blame.
