Got the offer from Toshiba but there will be a background check. So let's see what happens. Another place did the reference check so that's good.

Place number 3 is still interviewing.

I have a question:

From what you've heard about my workplave, would you take slightly less money to leave, or stick it out for a better deal?

Edit: Thank you everyone for your opinions and insights. I'll probably take a lesser contract if it gets me out of here. Admittedly, since I stopped caring whatsoever about my work (still up to standard though), I've felt a shit tonne better. I no longer have any personal stake in it.

[–] Eagle@aussie.zone 10 points 2 weeks ago

You spend a third of your life at work, so you need to be happy and safe there. Your better deal is going to come with strings, so it's not really better. Take less dollars for peace and support because it will cost you less in the long run.

[–] tone212_@aussie.zone 8 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I would take less money to leave, provided it's not a huge drop for a like-to-like role (like up to $10k or so). I was in a similar situation to you once, never regretted leaving and then working on increasing my salary at the new job once I was in the door.

I’d take a pay cut for peace of mind, particularly after hearing about all the crap you’ve been through there. Working for a (hopefully) more professional and reputable org will likely mean better job security and advancement opportunities in future, too. Whatever you decide, good luck!

Take less.

If my brain is functioning, apparently 80k is the happiness mark, beyond that it pretty much remains the same. There are also endless stories of people who had immensely well paying jobs who have taken drastic pay cuts and blue collar jobs and are exponentially happier.

While I’m in an odd sort of position, dropping a day when I was permanent to converting to casual and finally going elsewhere… So much happier. So much. (There were a couple extra things going on, but still. That feeling that you have to be there, when you don’t want to… Ugh.)

Thought you were working on an expungement?

You current place sounds like a cross between thunderdome and a sinking ship. I'd try to leverage you current salary against the new offers, but, assuming they're all over $75k, I'd accept a 10% hit for a job at a better place. At the first performance review I'd be pressing for them to at least match the old salary.

Starting a new temporary role at work today for a few weeks and half of the team is out sick.

I'm meant to be involved in some meetings, but looks like I'm leading them now.

Gonna be fun!!

Hello everyone. I wonder when the next lemmy canvas will be, hopefully we get the aussie flag completed (itI'll have bluey on it)

Success!!!!! After weeks of procrastination and increasingly yucky feelings, I've finally used some super janky half-manual method to randomly sample my fucking points and loaded them onto my field app SO NOW I HAVE ABSOLUTELY ZERO EXCUSE TO START ON MY FIELDWORK TOMORROW. FINALLY.

Just need to wait for the message advising me what time my dishwasher will arrive, hopefully it's in the afternoon so I can get a few hours done in the morning without having to drive all the way out west then back.

While I'm at it, maybe I'll finally do this dumbshit fb marketplace listing I've been procrastinating on, and brave the horrors of my fridge crisper to see which vegetables I can salvage.

Wow. My cousin is engaged, and he's dated the girl for a year. He broke up with his last girlfriend at the middle of 2023, and got with his current one at the start of 2024. They've been living together for a few months. She is from overseas and is not a citizen, so half the family is questioning if she wants to marry him for citizenship. I guess sometimes, when you know, you know, and I hope it works out for him.

Oh dear, my QuietComfort headphones have died overnight. I was just thinking yesterday they're on the way to 8 years old... great innings.

Off work today and tomorrow to try and beat myself into getting this uni fieldwork started - adhd tendencies in hyperdrive... just unable to focus on the random sampling bit so that I can get out there already while the weather's good. I'll get there, beating myself up is not helpful...

...but the good news is, today's been a day for procrastiductivity: I FINALLY PULLED THE TRIGGER and bought an 8-place benchtop dishwasher after some research. As it always goes: it really wasn't that difficult after all!

It's arriving tomorrow; hopefully Appliances Online will bring it up the stairs for me. Installation should be super easy, just attach it directly to the spare washing machine tap I mysteriously have, and drain out to the laundry sink immediately adjacent.

I only have 3 months left on my lease (hopefully can extend to 4-5 to see me through the end of uni), but dishes are an obvious pain point for me that drags down my mood and momentum, so $315 is worth it - it's about an extra day of work after tax, I can make up for it easily. And it should be easy to sell on afterwards if I don't need it later

Something somewhat positive that came out of this whole thing is I've realised I really am a textbook workaholic.

All I ever do is think about work and now that I'm apathetic towards the current job, my mind is unoccupied.

It feels uncomfortable right now. Having to accept certain realities about isolation and loneliness.

But at least now I know.

It's a start.

made some oven roasted tomato pasta last night. Tomatoes out of my garden, grown with love. It was horrible! I ate 2 bites. Mrs ate half of one. Kiddo ate a bit though I'm pretty sure he'd eat pasta with a dirt sauce so long as it was real pasta.

basic adulting quiz

Worth doing. I got a couple wrong that I didn't think were wrong when I answered. Bit of a wake up call.

The egg one is baffling. I've never seen buy one get one free for eggs.

MFW we're drunkenly discussing US politics and neonazis and the Polish dude starts getting weirdly insistent about how many Jews his family saved during the war.

Discovered little bit ago that the recycling truck didn't take our bin because some dickhead parked directly in front of it. Starting this fortnight with an already full yellow bin, only 13 days to go until it gets emptied.

[–] tone212_@aussie.zone 10 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Have you tried calling your council to do a specific bin pick up? I have in the past when a similar thing has happened, they usually come next day.

It’s a bit hard to see, but there’s a very happy wattle bird eating nectar from the salvia outside my back door. Have been feeling very blah and burnt out lately, and the bird chatter is a nice distraction

Eugh, my good mood for the day got thrown off by a bit of an intense psych session (teleheath too - I hate telehealth psychology).

But I managed to finally use that ancient beetroot (V slicer to the rescue), made a pot of dal and fried up a slab of tempeh. Tomorrow, I freeze some of the beetroot curry, and make a cabbage stir fry. And put my new dishwasher to use, with today's mountain of dishes generated, hopefully...

New bike rides an absolute treat. I've missed bicycle rock star parking where I can ride up to the door of a place and lock it to the nearest pole. The seat is hard as, but my bum is also lacking conditioning.

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 7 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

If I was to buy another bike I'd get one with the most comfortable seat possible and get someone else to ride it for me while I'm in the back. People love bike riding and I'm like "My back can't cope with being bent over like that and my fanny hurts". I do envy bike riders.

[–] Eagle@aussie.zone 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Having children alters the way you can ride a bike!

Got jokingly teased at work today because I couldn't lift stuff that everyone else could lift. I think it's time to potentially invest in a PT. Or just head to the gym and try to go consistently to actually see results. My muscle mass is low, but I also think the tension is low, and that's not something that's as fixable.

[–] LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago

Got my bike after about a decade from a relative's house because we have no room, and whilst the bike is still an okay size (I haven't grown since I was probably 13), the helmet is not. My head must've grown.
