The democrats - master political strategists that they are - help the GOP to pass the bill. Not only do they get nothing in return - the bill does nothing about yesterday's tariffs.

I seem to remember Trump just declaring things a national emergency (like with drug-smuggling across the border with either Canada or Mexico), and Congress having less than zero authority to ever challenge the tariffs after that. Like, Donald Trump definitely declared Canadian lumber a national security threat, and when Trudeau questioned Trump about Canada being a threat, Trump replied with "didn't you guys burn down the White House"
