Marilu Mendez said when ICE vehicles began following her and her husband Monday and then surrounded their car on Tallman Street in New Bedford, she took out her cell phone and started recording.

Her video shows a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforement agent using a large hammer to break the back passenger window of their car.

Marilu said the agents were focused on her husband, Juan, but kept calling him “Antonio”, the name of another man who lives in their building.

Juan Mendez is now being held in a detention facility in Dover, New Hampshire, with a hearing scheduled for May 7.

2a bros...? When you gonna defend us from the gubmint tyranny?

[–] piecat@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Everyone is looking around at everyone else to do something.

Be the change you want to see.

[–] Bongo_Stryker@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 days ago

Yeah you're right. I suppose it's foolish to expect the guys who said they were preparing for government tyranny to do anything when the government starts tyrannizing.

[–] 13igTyme@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (2 children)

They are going after brown people. Most Second amendment people are either white racists or other brown people who are trying to pull up the ladder and happy they are going after "bad" brown people.

[–] skuzz@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 3 days ago

Most Second amendment people are either white racists

They're also often larpers that like buying toys and playing pretend. True action is foreign to them.

Isn’t this exactly the thing that the 500 million guns in the US was supposed to stop?

Anyone from 101st Keyboard Militia wanna chime in?

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

There really isn't a good option there. Someone with a gun goes to protect these people in the car. Ice calls in back up/police or just guns down the shooter, label a terrorist, double down on their claims these people were in fact threats and get the insurrection act passed on Sunday do to media outlets using fear mongering against people who want the constitution upheld.

A single person or a group of 5 even with guns can't do anything to help singular people against an army. Also the right has pushed for years, "they don't care about you so why should you care about them". Many conservatives have been divided intentionally. Taught to not help anyone but themselves, or maybe their family, but they will choose themselves over family most times.

Those 1-5 people would have more of an effect not fighting the random ice officer on the street but doing other things, most of which require coordination and cooperation without any means of large scale communication.

[–] boughtmysoul@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago (4 children)

So, in other words, these 500 million civilian owned guns are completely useless in actually doing what the 2A claims that they are for?

When the first ICE terrorist inevitably catches a bullet, what happens next?

[–] zqps@sh.itjust.works 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Terrorism charges, and even more privileges and equipment and less oversight for these thugs.

It would need to happen at scale.

[–] PunkRockSportsFan@fanaticus.social 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

So the plan is to corner the public illegally and entrap them on terror charges for trying to live. Got it.

[–] Ceruleum@lemmy.wtf 8 points 3 days ago

Rinse and repeat!

[–] theacharnian@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 days ago

Ever seen a movie called V for Vendetta?

[–] Eddbopkins@lemmy.world 23 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

all i see are terrorist braking property that's not theirs to kidnap innocent people. they are creating terror in me and many other Americans. therefor ICE are terrorists by my definition.

[–] 0x0@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 days ago

ICE... ISIS... is all the same to me...

[–] kingofras@lemmy.world 319 points 4 days ago (7 children)

If you’re outside USA

  1. stay there
  2. upvote this
  3. comment
  4. share everywhere

If you’re inside understand there is no going back from this, you will not be able to vote your way out of this. Go to the protests this weekend.

[–] danekrae@lemmy.world 68 points 4 days ago (7 children)

Go to the protests this weekend.

More is needed. I'm not a history buff, so I don't know the exact number of times peacefully protesting has worked in authoritarian regimes, but...

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 98 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Peaceful protests rarely lead to anything against authoritarians on their own. They do tend to gather a lot of people though, who will over time get less and less peaceful.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 41 points 4 days ago (1 children)

This is true, but with an important qualifier: Those people choose to become less peaceful. There's no unstoppable march of history to cause these things; it's real people like you and me who make them happen. If you want to escalate then you must spread that desire in your community and get them to escalate. The fact that I'm barely hearing a peep about any kind of strike is very concerning for American democracy.

Edit: By the way I said escalate, but there's no reason that escalation must be violent. Striking and mass occupations (think occupy wall street) are very effective methods of peaceful resistance, but they're still a far cry from protesting on a weekend.

As an old leftist who has become disillusioned, i wish the young generation would stop wasting time like we did and skip the protesting bit and go to guillotines. I feel like every new generation discovers the same injustices and jumps the same hoops, then they get jobs and homes and kids and that ends, new generation comes, repeat. We never actually make it past protests before we become unable to do anything more

[–] Blueberrydreamer@lemmynsfw.com 50 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Maybe it would be more helpful if the old leftists who wasted too much time protesting started putting their lives on the line instead of insisting their children should do it for them.

At least this one wasn't masked so he can be publicly ostracized for his willful participation in a fascist regime.

[–] Freshparsnip@lemm.ee 94 points 4 days ago (1 children)

How long until the media stops being allowed to tell us these things?

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 43 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Tho ones who need to hear this already don’t.

[–] Gloomy@mander.xyz 22 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Or are chearing it on. When they say "I think Trump is doing good but the Tariffs are Bullshit" this kind of thing is part of the doing good.

Look at this guy, these thugs are living their best life now that they have a blank check to terrorize people without due process.

[–] Rhoeri@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Wait, he’s getting a hearing? We’re still doing that?

[–] Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 3 days ago

I wouldn't bet on it being anything fair.

I said that on a reddit post about ICE kidnapping someone, and now my account has been banned, they even went as far as banning my IP adress so any new account I make gets banned instantly.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 42 points 4 days ago (5 children)

Why do they need that big ass hammer lol you can do that with a spark plug

[–] Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 51 points 4 days ago (1 children)

My guess would be to intimidate and invoke terror.

Because this is a Goon. They don't think. They act. They act most efficiently when it involves hurting someone else. Do not go easily. Fight the gestapo.

[–] ipkpjersi@lemmy.ml 19 points 4 days ago

Probably to scare people or to feel cool.

[–] TheEighthDoctor@lemmy.zip 31 points 4 days ago (14 children)

Can we dox people on Lemmy? I know in Reddit it's not allowed but how are the rules here?

[–] hightrix@lemmy.world 19 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

This guy is not an ICE member. He is a member of a right wing immigration militia patrol.

There are posts on Reddit about him.

Edit: Veterans On Patrol. See r/therewasanattempt
