Standing in line at will-call at Ferguson this afternoon, I called the office to get a PO number. Its a small plumbing shop so the business tyrants are involved with all things to some extent; since she is answering phones today, she answered when I called to get my PO number.

For some reason I said “OK I love you, bye” when I hung up, like a dumb ass.

I didnt have to call, or go back to the office before I finished my shift today, so I didnt have to hear about it yet. Nobody has texted me or called me either so maybe she didnt say anything. Or maybe she did and theyre all waiting to fuck with me tomorrow.

Anyway, thats my faux pas for the day.

Lmao it happens. They probably just think it's funny unless they're an ass.

The owners are decent enough I honestly expect a bit of good natured ribbing at most and thats about the extent of it. Im not even really embarrassed beyond the superficial. Ive said much dumber things, frankly.

I love saying "love you too" when co workers hang up the phone. I've tricked a few of them into thinking they said it.

That's the sort of thing that, were I on the receiving end, I'd chuckle about for a couple of seconds and then forget within an hour.

I worked IT phone support for people new to wfh during Covid. The "Love you" was honestly kind of common. Especially when they were working from home and there were kids around.

Welcome to ~~Costco~~ Ferguson -- I love you

If they hear from you again they're going to probalbly end your conversation with "and love you too!" . i mean i would totally do that

Im just glad I work for someone who isnt bothered by that. Ive worked for folks who would get ugly over a embarrassing but entirely innocent slip up like that.

Just own it and it ceases to be a faux pas

Tell her it was the adult version of calling your teacher mom accidentally if she asks and she would probably get it. I have been on the receiving end a couple of times and I always assumed it was that automatically and never thought much about it so you should be in the clear.

if life were a Jane Austen novel, this would a pivotal moment and possibly the scandal of the season.

be sure to beg the pardon of Lady Hamworth or she may disinvite from all of polite society within Intercourse-Upon-Turdshire.
