I refuse to learn what that term means.
That seems a bit immature and incurious to me, just because it's an idea originating from a "utopian leftist" podcast. Really, library socialism isn't that difficult or even strange an idea — in hindsight it strikes me as maybe a bit "reinventing-the-wheel-y" but it basically just means doing for any commodity what we already do with books in libraries, i.e. treating libraries as a model for what property abolition could look like.
This has all happened before.
I just don’t care about the new terms, because the idea isn’t new, it’s marketing.
It’s like when fascists tried to rebrand at patriotic socialists.. just for a good goal instead.
Say what you mean and want.
As I was saying, it's reinventing the wheel, but as far as marketing goes, it conveys the idea well, doesn't it?
Especially considering its a common practical example of organizing resources for the benefit of a community, and there's a decent chance whoever you're talking to at a given moment is one short trip away from one.
I shrug.
Why not just call it library liberal to trick fans of Warren to sliding to the left?
Well, since you're apparently so old as to remember it, what are the past examples of people rebranding the idea?
You don't say. Am I just confusing two similar-sounding concepts or do you think Andrewism learned about the idea from Srsly Wrong?
Andrew does cite srsly wrong in his video on library socialism, at the end. The wrong boys have a website for it, Here it’s genuinely good stuff, we need people planning for what comes after, just as much as we need people planning for how to get to after.
Honestly, like I am being kind of harsh to this anonymous Mastodon user, but I do genuinely like the idea of library socialism and, alas, I was introduced to it through Andrewism — I just didn't remember that Andrewism cited Srsly Wrong or that Srsly Wrong was even a thing.
So I guess it's just the conjunction of this Mastodon user being a library socialist and a member of the Green Party that strikes me as the "gets his politics from YouTube videos, doesn't investigate deeper and doesn't really reflect on how he actually engages in politics IRL" type — a bit like the handful of self-described anarchists I've met IRL who have joined parliamentary political parties despite the anarchist conventional wisdom on electoralism. Leftism as "kulture" as I like to call it.
Srsly Wrong has been going on since 2015, so i'm guessing yes.
You can't really say yes to an or question, I was just assuming you meant that Andrewism did hear about library socialism from Srsly Wrong, but in hindsight you could've meant the opposite...
Anybody who seriously uses the term “Putinism” should stay at the kids’ table instead of intruding on actual political discussion
