Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color

Why is the title different?

We like to have fun here.

What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.

What are the basic rules of the community?

  1. Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

  2. This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

  3. Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.

  4. No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.

  5. Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.

FAQ

Angel has another crush

Angel didn't ask for this

But Angel is tryna chill the fuck out

And not do anything about it

But Angel's friend is talking to them about it

And Angel's friend says to try

But Angel has other priorities

I fucking HATE this feeling, especially since I'm emotionally intense

(On the bright side, this new crush helped me redirect focus from how the last one went, i.e., not good)

Finally the good statement

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 5 points 11 hours ago

Bassem youssef and bad hasbara on a gave a good point. They've never seen so much silence from anti establishment comedians like gervais on a topic like they have on israel. And gervais whole brand is "oh did I offend you?" And not much else

Posting here because I dont want honkey discourse.

"Allies"

[–] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 8 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

a bunch of orgs that literally werent forced to put out statements condeming the shooting, still posting just because

[–] LoveYourself@hexbear.net 2 points 42 minutes ago

Right! Silence would be adequate.

Allies mad at decolonial violence because their genocidal family members might get what's coming to them. 🫠

Typical Seppo/E.U mentality right there.

FD Signifier became anti-Traore and share an article that says he is basically "African MAGA"

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 4 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Do people on this site rock with him like that? He always came across as lib tbh

[–] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 3 points 11 hours ago

i seen his videos get posted here sometimes but also people here do criticise him for getting to a lib position in his videos

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 7 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Western leftists really not beating the allegations of benefitting too much from living in the Imperial Core to be considered proles.

Of course, I don't know how much he makes in a month from his videos. He may fall under petite-bourgeois if he has people on his payroll for stuff like editing and marketing. It would mean his class interests have aligned with NATO over AES. He's also been a liberal AFAIK, never a full-on socialist. How you can understand intersectionality and remain a lib is beyond me.

[–] Rojo27@hexbear.net 3 points 14 hours ago

Well he's on Nebula and they have a bunch of other NATO libs on there. And they didn't back First/Second Thought when hasbra came out asking for the to remove them for their support of Palestine after October 7th. So good chance he's indeed more in line with most of the Western "left".

It's too bad because he does put out a lot of great content, but it seems he has a long way to go towards showing solidarity with AES.

Where was this energy against Kamala?

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 22 hours ago) (3 children)

Oh look a bunch of crackers can't help but show their whole asses as being reactionary, means testing libs. Glad to know there are conditions on the mutual aid comm even though there aren't supposed to be conditions.

[–] Rojo27@hexbear.net 5 points 14 hours ago

Saw some of the posts early on and just SMFH. "Waaa, what if there's scammers?" Wow, so what? If there are people here so concerned with scammed, just don't give money. Simple as. This concern trolling is just so fucking hypocritical. Especially on a leftist platform where Dems/libs are constantly criticized for means testing.

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 7 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

There's clamps on mutual aid on people who legit need it? Things gonna be a lot worse with these cuts happening. This won't end well. How many folks from Palestine have been getting mutual aid? Nah.....

[–] Angel@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's giving me a fuck ton of anxiety because I literally have only been able to stay alive in my current prolonged struggle because of c/mutual_aid, really.

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

With the medicaid cuts today, I may be in the same boat soon. I'm disabled with over a ten-year gap in my work history with no college degree. Nobody is going to hire me and I especially wouldn't get accommodations (I know because I've looked). Guess I'll just not eat food or something? IDK. Can't rely on these """"leftists""" that's for sure.

[–] Angel@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Seeing you go off in this thread really was the kind of relief I needed right now. I am having major panic attacks right now due to me grappling with the brutal reality of the injustice that could happen to me if some of these proposed changes (that were clearly thought of on a whim—pulled straight from the ass) actually went through. Jesus fucking Christ, I already hate bleach demons enough as is, but the way any struggle session seems to go on Hexbear makes me realize that I still have potential to hate them more.

I really find the performativity glaring. "Leftists" on this site (and all across the internet really) will say shit like, "It's so fucked up that capitalism literally kills people for not being profitable!" and "It's a shame that Black transfems have disporportionately high rates of homelessness and unemployment alongside a high likelihood of being victims of hate crimes!"

But like with many other things, when an issue starts to be less of an abstract horror that they can post outrage about and is actually something they'd have to face the reality of, even not as the direct victims and even if just through words on a screen, white and/or privileged leftists would rather shame people for their material conditions leaving them hopeless and desperate in a society that sees them as a disposable machines at best.

People are concerned about some potential scams on this comm, so their solutions are to literally suggest things that will put marginalized people at risk of potentially the worst shit they could have to put up with? That makes no fucking sense to me, especially since c/mutual_aid has always been about donating at your own discretion. It's not like Hexbear mods are lining people up, calculating their wages, and forcing them to donate to posts where the OP indicates desperate need.

[–] Sandouq_Dyatha@lemmy.ml 10 points 23 hours ago

Type of people to ask for ID to prove you're hungry while running a free soup kitchen

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 7 points 22 hours ago

It makes me doubt their conviction. When the Red Terror starts, are these so-called "leftists" going to choke at pulling a trigger? If they get captured, are they going to snitch on people who trusted them? If they're so easily scratched at anonymous forum posts, they'll crack under pressure when it comes time to carry out actual revolution.

Their leftism is entirely performative. It's merely an aesthetic to them seperate from liberalism and fascism. They're anarkiddies with a veneer of literacy. Everything is hypothetical, nothing has actual consequences.

It's not like Hexbear mods are lining people up, calculating their wages, and forcing them to donate to posts where the OP indicates desperate need.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I saw you post in that thread and I just want to back you up. I think this is a huge mistake by the mods to correct the problem of like one or two people scamming hexbear. But the comments, a lot of them read like they're being forced to donate at gunpoint or something and thus they're cheerleading on a whole slew of draconian countermeasures to appease a a handful of bougie dickheads who're mad a user spent some money on drugs. It's literally a case of fixing a problem that wasn't broken and all of this might have been spurred on by bad actors in the first place trying to wreck the site because so many people use the mutual aid comm.

[–] Rojo27@hexbear.net 5 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (2 children)

I don't really understand what the purpose of that thread is supposed to be. Didn't this whole song and dance happen early on when we started having donation threads for Palestinians? Like, of course there's always a chance there's going to be scammers, but it just seems so fucked up for a leftist platform to punish people who legitimately need the help.

[–] Angel@hexbear.net 5 points 14 hours ago

Many people here are covertly reactionary. It's just that, in some cases, the "c" in "covertly" goes silent. This is one of those cases.

[–] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 5 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Its started because some people started to complain about scammers in the MA comm so the mod team made the discussion post so people gave their thoughts about the comm

Thankfully it seems like its going to stay mostly the same but its wild how some people wanted the mods to mean test people about if they needed the aid

[–] Rojo27@hexbear.net 5 points 14 hours ago

I started reading a bit more and while its good to see that that was the decision they came to after the input, it still sucks that they ever entertained the demands of those wanting for there to be means tests for our most vulnerable comrades.

[–] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago

A group of Lebanese tourists came by my town and it’s remarkable how much they resemble people here. Everyone had a lot of fun noting the similarities between each other.

[–] SevenSkalls@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago

kinda doomer thoughtsThe shooting has made me super depressed. I'm just expecting a government crackdown on our orgs, and I don't think the left is ready for that. The Black Panthers couldn't deal with assassinations and they were way more organized than we are. I was just starting to get some hope in me too just from participating and doing stuff on the ground. Not sure what to do, except distract myself with slop so I don't let the sad overtake me. I have to keep my head up for my family.

[–] Blockocheese@hexbear.net 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Me every single day: if these fucking crackers cared about racism just 1% as much as the issues that affect them

[–] Angel@hexbear.net 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What are you talking about? They're affected by anti-white racism because of woke!!!

[–] Blockocheese@hexbear.net 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Honestly, its kinda hypocritical for us to not care about anti white racism, the biggest modern day issue

[–] Rojo27@hexbear.net 11 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

-White genocide happening in South Africa

-Less and less white representation in popular media

-Losing out on jobs because of DEI

You may laugh, but these are all real issues facing white people. Who will be brave enough to stand up for them?powercry-1

White genocide happening in South Africa

Tbf, I've never met a nice white African. Should've been more civil and fled like in Algeria, instead

[–] Sandouq_Dyatha@lemmy.ml 12 points 3 days ago

When I talk to white people I sometimes say "In my culture/my people say/we have a saying over here" before quoting or referencing an obscure TV show from around here and pretend it's wise posting, they buy it pretty well.

[–] anarchoilluminati@hexbear.net 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Is Spike Lee's Malcolm X actually good or is it lib?

I'm not gonna lie, I thought the end to Do the Right Thing was very lib and disappointing since I really liked the movie up until that point. Worried that he butchered my boy Malcolm so I always avoided it.

[–] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

nerds in the general mega mention its a little long but still pretty good, also Denzel Washington was pretty good in it

[–] anarchoilluminati@hexbear.net 3 points 3 days ago

Cool, nerds know what's up. I'll check it out then!

Thanks!

Gringos in Tulum are "protesting" having the same rights as mexicans to access the federal beaches without paying, except mexicans can only do that if thei carry their INE which gringos could get if they nationalized but they just want to take advange of being a semi-turist

extremely annoying people

[–] anarchoilluminati@hexbear.net 6 points 3 days ago

Death to the gringos.

[–] Angel@hexbear.net 10 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Got invited to the final stage of the interview for the trans clinic job (it's because of woke and DEI obviously)

This interview is with the person who'd actually be my boss, but I already interviewed the person who serves as her boss specifically.

Let's hope this goes well 😬

[–] SevenSkalls@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

Omg good luck!!!!
