Ethnic Minorities and People of Color
Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color
Why is the title different?
We like to have fun here.
What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.
What are the basic rules of the community?
-
Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.
-
This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.
-
Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.
-
No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.
-
Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.
FAQ
I don't look XYZ and/or sometimes I can pass as white so I don't know if I can post here. Can I?
-
This place is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This includes those of mixed heritage and those who may be "white" but are of an ethnicity that is a minority in their area (i.e. Kurds, etc) If you've experienced oppression due to your identity that is not based on sexual / gender identification, you are welcome here.
-
Moreover, for our American audience, we have people from around the world who are "white" but are oppressed due to being a minority in their country. They are and should be welcomed here.
What can I post?

Angel has another crush
Angel didn't ask for this
But Angel is tryna chill the fuck out
And not do anything about it
But Angel's friend is talking to them about it
And Angel's friend says to try
But Angel has other priorities
I fucking HATE this feeling, especially since I'm emotionally intense
(On the bright side, this new crush helped me redirect focus from how the last one went, i.e., not good)
fuck Kaitlin Klark and her white hooded fans
The creepiest piece of advice I got was on a Mohawk reservation where a guy tells me not to respond if I hear someone calling my name and it’s a voice I don’t recognize.
yeah that's me lol
Apparently the advice was only applicable for the reservation because of alleged spirits on it. Another piece of advice was to avoid playing cards at night because a mysterious visitor would show up and leave hoof prints on the table.
On one hand, I agree letting in Boers is dumb but on the other hand, it'll be funny and good if south africa becomes decolonized. That said it's only like 50 people so it's not enough to make an impact. I look forward to seeing boers get rocked in the meantime
kinda doomer thoughts
The shooting has made me super depressed. I'm just expecting a government crackdown on our orgs, and I don't think the left is ready for that. The Black Panthers couldn't deal with assassinations and they were way more organized than we are. I was just starting to get some hope in me too just from participating and doing stuff on the ground. Not sure what to do, except distract myself with slop so I don't let the sad overtake me. I have to keep my head up for my family.
I liked the chickpea patties I made and since I'm starting some training tomorrow I'm gonna try making some tofu patties same deal for the week today. Need to get some spices but I think I can manage meal prepping, the place I'm training at has an air fryer I can use to heat things up and a microwave. Real excited to be learning some stuff and getting some useful skills for work but also for some projects around the house, while means testing suck bad I recommend people take advantage of whatever programs you got while you still can.
Gringos in Tulum are "protesting" having the same rights as mexicans to access the federal beaches without paying, except mexicans can only do that if thei carry their INE which gringos could get if they nationalized but they just want to take advange of being a semi-turist
extremely annoying people
Death to the gringos.
A group of Lebanese tourists came by my town and it’s remarkable how much they resemble people here. Everyone had a lot of fun noting the similarities between each other.
Always see serbian or balkan villains in movies....bought to you by the most bloodthirsty people on the planet.... Americans
Make them traffickers bought to you by the most infamous traffickers in history
It is cool when I meet the occasional white people irl who are chill, I may end up in construction work and it seems the people I've meet who worked there are ok. A lot of it is just familiarity most likely and even the ones that don't fully know Spanish aren't annoyed when they hear it. I know that a low bar but I'll take it
I worked construction my first summer out of high school. A lot of misogyny, sexism, and homophobia, but surprisingly little (if any) racism. I think people felt like we were "in the shit" together and everyone was capable at their jobs.
Although looking back, I'm pretty sure we had one group of contractors connected to organized crime who were doing no show jobs lmao
Might with any luck be able to share some of my vegan mexican recipes with the rest of my training class. For the most part they seemed intrigued with the foods I'm eating so might make some converts
Ngl the most effective way i’ve found to make other people open to a vegan diet is just eat smacking vegan food and posting it. It was very healing when i figured out i need to stop making white people vegan food and start making ethnic vegan food
Rewrote Working Man by Rush in my style (just a part of the song, 45 seconds)
First time I've tried this... especially since I've been mostly focusing on original songs, but I've been procrastinating a bit and had just a bit of musical inspiration, so I gave it a go.
racism in yakuza series
Playing kiwami 2 and like the main plot of the series for this one has to do with the korean mafia in the game, I remember playing the ps2 game and thinking damn they really went hard on them. I get it it's a crime game so everyone of them is in a gang to be part of this story but damn still.
I feel 4 handles immigrants better especially with the cop, once again just realizing they made the cop lady of korean descent from 2 a cop. The sense of community in that game was good for the story. I do want to go back and play it all the substories for 4 now.
Afterward I don't remember 5 having much to do with immigrants same with 6 and 7. 6 does have the return of the korean mafia and 7 kind of too but I feel there issues are more in the background.
I also can't help but mention black people in these games, usually when they have black people they're usually americans. For the most part they aren't so bad, yeah they have a terrible accent but it's par for the course with these games for all foreigners. Gary Buster Homles has a mention in my mind, I like him a lot and eventually they lean into him being more american in dead souls which I love.
