Maybe whelmed is just the regular state of being: when expectations are lived up to, but not exceeded?

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 25 points 1 year ago (2 children)

That's such a whelming answer.

[–] beanson@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 year ago

I aim to whelm.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 year ago

I too feel whelmed

[–] dylanmorgan@slrpnk.net 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Fun fact, “whelm” actually means the same thing as “overwhelmed,” they both mean to be covered over (as in by the sea.)

And I just learned that "underwhelm" first appeared in the 1950s? https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/underwhelm

Gosh I love etymology <3

Why in the world is the first woman's name "Chastity"?

Edit: Is it really a name, or does it have a hidden meaning?

[–] aaaa@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

My cousin named her daughter Chastity.

Chastity attended her parents' wedding.

[–] Knusper@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago

It really is a female given name, yes.

This meme is very whelming.

[–] Delphia@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

Clearly they have never been to Europe.

[–] z500@startrek.website 8 points 1 year ago

Because that state of affairs is so whelming as to not be worth mentioning.

I am, also, whelmed.

[–] Seraph@kbin.social 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Because it's default. It's like telling people you're right handed.

[–] Kraiden@kbin.social 9 points 1 year ago

It's more like telling people you're handed

[–] Bishma@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 1 year ago

I feel perfectly whelmed when I'm gruntled.

[–] LEONHART@slrpnk.net 5 points 1 year ago

This feels like a Mitch Hedberg joke. You can easily read it in his voice.

[–] nicoweio@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

It's called flow

[–] MonkCanatella@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago

If someone isn't overwhelmed or underwhelmed, they're whelmed by default.

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

When everything's going just right, it's literally unremarkable, so we don't have a word for that.

[–] HubertManne@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

gotta love the teen titans.

[–] HypnoticSheep@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Young Justice? Or was it also a thing in TT?

[–] HubertManne@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

[–] Tyfud@lemmy.one 2 points 1 year ago

You're correct, it's Young Justice, the TV show, 1st and 2nd season.
