I'm pretty sure that's just the establishment liberal media. A real revolution would mean upending their own way of life.

Until it gets mass adoption, then the enshitification will begin. Bluesky is still funded by a corporation.
Not merely funded, owned by a for-profit.
It exists for profit. That is its goal and purpose.
That's why the useful idiots have been herded like sheep into supporting it.
Also the article doesnt have any critical question how BlueSky is a "mediated" network instead of decentralised ...
She basically admits that BlueSky is not decentralized. "If you don't like the moderation, just go build your own app" yeah cool that's exactly not the point.
I mean.. isn't the point of decentralization that you can build your own service with the same protocol and still communicate with the other services?
There are ongoing initiatives for alternative stacks speaking the AT protocol, like Northsky, or Indiesky.
There's also community-run labelers and blocklists for moderation. You can make the moderation stronger, what you might not be able to do is make it weaker if the PDS takes an account down fully, or the indexer/relay refuses to use it.
You're not wrong but that's not quite decentralization, that's just not building a walled garden, but retaining the power to put up walls at any point. If most users are on BlueSky, then BlueSky retains the power. If they decide to end support of AT or to extend (break) it, they keep their user base while everything else is left in the dust.
This is why people are saying not to create an account on mastoson.social - it's getting too big. And mastodon.social is run by a non-profit, whereas BlueSky is a for-profit company. True decentralization and federation are against their interests.

Elon Musk saved them from having to confront that corporatism was the problem with Twitter. They don't realize the whole "decentralized" slogan is just a startup in the growth phase willing to promise anything and ask for nothing in order to lock people in and if they're lucky enough to not be bought by another billionaire fascist, they'll just go to shit like all the others.
Nah dude if you stay an early adopter you can hop onto whatever platform is a fuckin desert before they enshittify it the minute it starts getting a community
It's sad that Bluesky was chosen over Mastodon as the standard Twitter alternative when Mastodon is actually decentralized

To those saying it isn’t decentralized. Most people don’t care. Bluesky is an easy to use Twitter alternative. People use it over others because of it’s ease of use and popularity. The average user doesn’t care about the how.
CopeSky would be a better name. It will have to close up shop once investors realize it's not Twitter 2.0.
Or that it is Twitter 2.0 and Twitter wasn't a good investment until Musk overpaid for it.
If Twitter lost money for the rest of its existence it would still be a good investment for a billionaire because it provides the power to shape narratives.
It was a matter of time until BS (I prefer to use this abbreviation) reveals its true face, tragically after it permits the connection with instances in the Fediverse. It must be blocked immediately from Mastodon and others.

Me personally... They were already pretty heavy handed with moderation before the masses made the switch and then they got a bit worse.

Mastodon (Lemmy, Raddle (sometimes)) is what I use, I mentioned MeWe as better alternative to BS, because it exists since many years ago, it is private, doble encryption and decentralized, without scandals and rare things (nowadays). Ad free, it makes money with premium features, like collaboration tools and video chats.
