I once wondered how the German people could have allowed the Holocaust to happen. I no longer wonder.

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 66 points 2 days ago (1 children)

germans had more internal resistance lmao

[–] machiabelly@hexbear.net 35 points 2 days ago (1 children)

yeah the Nazis had to spend a long time dealing with internal dissent before the genocide proper. Israel never had to dissapear israeli communists or others before they started. There has been basically no instability since the nakba.

like look at this shit, even ignoring brave kpd and other resistances

[–] Sinisterium@hexbear.net 26 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The nazis had to build camps for german communists, even after decades of regular purges of the german left. Even in 1933 the KPD & SPD made up around 30% of the popular vote. Israel never needed to do such a thing in the first place. Israeli society is worse than nazi germany's.

They literally learned and took notes to do better the next time

Does anyone know what the rate of support for genocide was among the german populace during/before the war?

[–] AntifaSuperWombat@hexbear.net 39 points 2 days ago

And this is why you should never allow ethnostates to fester. Because as soon as the majority has been normalized to fascism, genocide is always just a small step ahead.

Interesting to note that religious people are much more genocide-supporting.

[–] hellinkilla@hexbear.net 24 points 2 days ago

You should read the article. In part:

Religious interpretations play a key role in shaping these views. Nearly half (47 percent) of respondents agreed that "when conquering an enemy city, the Israel Defense Forces should act as the Israelites did in Jericho under Joshua's command – killing all its inhabitants." Sixty-five percent said they believed in the existence of a modern-day incarnation of Amalek, the Israelite biblical enemy whom God commanded to wipe out in Deuteronomy 25:19. Among those believers, 93 percent said the commandment to erase Amalek's memory remains relevant today.

This apocalyptic rhetoric has found fertile ground in religious Zionist circles, where leaders have long advocated for such extreme policies.

for some reason i thought orthodox would be less likely to be bloodthirsty sadness

[–] Collatz_problem@hexbear.net 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well, they are less bloodthirsty than Haredim.

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago

🤏distance. maybe i was too impressed by separate videos of diasporic orthodox tbh

[–] heartheartbreak@hexbear.net 10 points 2 days ago

The zionists use religious state apparatuses to promote ideology, so it would make sense that the closer people are to them the closer they would be to the ideology

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago

Because you can blame it on God's Will/Plan.

[–] D61@hexbear.net 22 points 2 days ago

AyyyyyOC-big We're just doing what the Israeli unions wanted!

[–] Babs@hexbear.net 17 points 2 days ago

Tie me to a missile and fire it at Tel Aviv. I am ready.

I do not believe those haredi figures.

I don't believe the figure it that high. It's at odds with what we've seen in terms of orthodox jews being repressed for flying the palestinian flag, opposing the existence of a state of israel, etc. Two thirds of Haredi jews do not consider themselves zionists, it is a minority:

I think it's much more likely that they're doing some extreme bullshit with their sampling, or that non-zionist haredi simply refused to participate. The very existence of Israel is against the beliefs of most Haredi.

[–] AnarchoAnarchist@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Is this disparity a result of Zionist Haredi self-selecting by immigrating?

If most Haredi feel Israel is against their beliefs, it stands to reason that most would avoid moving there. It also stands to reason the ones that did are already outside of the Haredi mainstream.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

No. Haredi in Israel are a minority, the above 33/66 chart is inside Israel.

Also Haredi are growing in Israel, they will be the largest population segment by 2080. They have the highest birthrates. They don't oppose being there in the holy land, they oppose the existence of a jewish state that has been constructed before the Messiah has returned. They believe the current entity of Israel is a heresy and that jews are only allowed to have a state after the messiah returns.

My best guess is that they're refusing to participate in this kind of polling, or the polling is designed to be a lie to try and manipulate Haredi, because one thing Israel desperately wants is to change them before they become a majority.

[–] SootySootySoot@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Why only Jewish Israelis? How are they determining that category?

[–] KnownUnknownKnower@hexbear.net 16 points 2 days ago

Because Palestinians in Israel have a different perspective on the genocide to Jewish Israelis. Polls in Israel are often divided between Jews and Palestinians in Israel because of this.

[–] Sinisterium@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago

Israel is an apartheid state, there are non-jewish nations trapped in the settler colony. Like the Armenians, Circassians and Palestinians of course.

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago

cause they have like 20% arab israelis?

[–] hellinkilla@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago

israelis aren't people
