Most fucked up part? Chile is the whitest South American country. There was an old statistic from the mid 2000s that put Chile at 95% white European heritage people.

The only way it would get more fucked is if they deported Spaniards from Spain to El Salvador...

Deporting the British to America and Elon to Belgium

Note the reference to Kristi Noem - South Dakota's former governor, who decided to handle COVID with "freedom and personal responsibility," spending $5 million of her state's federal COVID money on a tourism campaign. Like the line from Steve Martin's King Tut song, "He gave his life for tourism" - thanks to her, some South Dakotans probably did.

Do not visit the USA. Just don't. Spend your money elsewhere for your sake and for our sake. It's no good to anybody for you to spend it here right now.

Go visit Canada. Nice people, beautiful country this time of year. And they won't disappear you. I know because the Canadians have always been our good friends. It's very sad how they've been treated.

Tourists should avoid the USA (not to blame the tourists in this story, of course)

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 112 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (20 children)

American citizens should be avoiding the USA at this point as well. No-one is safe.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 51 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I'm an American citizen and I got out. Absolutely zero regrets. Apparently it's rapidly becoming increasingly common

No-one is safe.

Not until we make the police and ICE agents feel unsafe.

The Trump administration has set strict quotas for arresting anyone even suspected of being in the country illegally, with Stephen Miller ordering that 3,000 people be arrested every single day, or ICE officers will face consequences

What the fuck

[–] Mustakrakish@lemmy.world 61 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Quotas are supposed to be illegal for law enforcement, not that they care about rule of law, but should be another note for the second Nuremberg Trials.

[–] the_mighty_kracken@lemmy.world -2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

ICE is not law enforcement

[–] sakodak@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

ICE is law enforcement, you are mistaken.

[–] Pnut@lemm.ee 37 points 1 week ago

Nazis. That's what the fuck. It is all so "by the book". That book was supposed to warm us away from stuff like this. But nazi rhetoric is being wielded so fiercely in 2025 that the rest of us are, justifiably, pretty confused.

Anyone who still doesn't see how similiar this is to 1930s Germany, is lying, a child or ignorant to the point where they their opinion should be ignored.

Nothing short of violent revolution will change anything in the states at this point. The courts are powerless, and the entire political system is rotten to the core.

Until the last three days, I've actually been fairly optimistic.

While slow, the courts had acted to curb Donald's worst abuses. The tariffs wreaked havoc, but we saw when the bond markets reacted that someone in his administration was able to make him see reason. (My own retirement has recovered its losses from February.) Elon Musk was finally being thrown out of the administration.

But here we are now, and this is genuinely scary stuff for absolutely everyone that isn't independently wealthy. The reaction of California and the courts will dictate how things proceed. This isn't the well-organized, institutionalized abuses of immigrants of Dubya, Obama and Biden. It's the heavy-handed, sloppy, careless and unmitigated cruelty of the Gestapo.

And, for me, I just can't get around the fact that this is probably happening because a meme hurt Donald's ego.

This gritty new Home Alone: Lost In New York reboot, starring Donald Trump, is just a bit on the nose

This seems like the kind of thing that's going to get a kidnapping cop shot, and they'll deserve that, but what happens after is a real wildcard.

[–] AlecSadler@sh.itjust.works 23 points 1 week ago

Good. I hope it does. Nationwide. In large numbers. Fuck them all.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 63 points 1 week ago (5 children)

Fascism in America. Brought to you by conservatives.

Start arming yourselves. If you have friends and family that aren't armed, help them get armed.

This isn't really a "boring" dystopia anymore. Can we go back to the boring one please

[–] Tuxman@sh.itjust.works 45 points 1 week ago (2 children)

And then they all go "Please! We need tourist money!"

Yeah…. Nah…

Hey is it ok for me to say we should run over ICE with our cars yet?

Maybe stop banning people for that in the middle of a civil war

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 9 points 6 days ago

It's a lot easier to get away with killing people if you use a car. They might even blame the victim (or recently, their parents).

[–] EchoCranium@lemmy.zip 12 points 6 days ago

When driving over ice, don't hit the brakes. You might lose traction. Just hold the steering wheel steady, and keep moving.

3000 abductions a day is the ICE quota. They just want warm (non-white) bodies.

That's what you get for being a tourist in a fascist banana republic.
Chileans of all people should know better.

[–] ThatsTheSpirit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I STILL see reactionaries tout this ICE fiasco as some type of moral victory over "evil cartel criminals" i.e. single mothers, and working men.
