the person taking this pic had the best photographic eye that day

There's like 100 photographers going for a front page news shot and one photographer taking a picture of what's actually the most interesting thing occurring at the moment.

My trash can has achieved a stable orbit

Turns out the famous manhole cover did not reach six times Earth's escape velocity.

Looks like we’re not quite aboard the Unicode train just yet, wouldn’t you say

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Last time I saw my trash can, it was speeding past the Kuiper belt 🤷

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 days ago

lol .... next time NASA wants to launch a satellite, they can just put the satellite next to the trash on the sidewalk during garbage day

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (2 children)

My trash can just exited the Oort Cloud.

I was tempted to say that "my trash can has torn the fabric of Space-Time and removed itself from existence", but that would be an obvious exageration since any people whose trash can went that far, would not remember even having had that trash can on account of it having erased itself from the timeline and hence their memories.

Thank you for destroying all the Marvel-Avengers bs in that on sentence.

We'll be expecting the residents of Alpha Centauri to send us a complaint about us illegally dumping intergalactic trash.

Don't worry about it, they're in a chaotic era right now.

It always works in kerbal space program.

In 2018, I was working in Oxford circus, London as tech support onsite at a flagship store there. On a random afternoon, a sea of people were screaming and pouring through the doors, security ended up shutting the building whilst the staff worked out what was going on.

We were tasked with leading the public down to the lower floors, because there were reports of gunmen in and around the tube station, and then began handing out water and what food was available.

Olly Murs had tweeted confirmation; as he had apparently heard the gunshots ringing out, and as it was 2018 at the time; people actually still used twitter, causing mass panic (and the flood of people that we had to deal with).

Anyway, it turned out there was a fire alarm which went off at the station; this caused loads of people to be turned away from the station back onto the street, which in turn caused some rumours about terrorist attacks, which Olly all but confirmed with his 'i can hear gunshots' nonsense.

I often wonder how small the fire actually was... did it even pose a threat? Or was it more of a burnt fuse causing a bit of smoke setting it off?

We will rebuild

Guys in the top right with wojack smirks on really makes this

He knows how this will be dragged through the media like a complete nightmare event.

[–] mad_lentil@lemmy.ca 18 points 3 days ago

Nightcrawlers the movie, basically.

[–] Katana314@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

For CA, this is that one car that caught fire in the intersection.

I’d really like to find video of the starting of the fire. Somebody made a claim that they saw a flashbang from ICE starting it by sparking some debris, which I’d like not to repeat too much until it’s verified.

Is this considered a 'garbage post'?

[–] bieren@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago

The only issue, not enough YouTubers and wanna be streamers.

[–] OmegaLemmy@discuss.online 4 points 3 days ago

First recorded event of a garbage bin giving birth

[–] MJKee9@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

No one knows what. It's like to be a trash bin in shaftsbury with hooligans.
