Iran and Israel have struck each other many times over the last few days. There has been a general focus on military facilities and headquarters by both sides, though Israel has also struck oil facilities, civilian structures and hospitals, and in return for this, Iran has struck major scientific centers and the Haifa oil facilities.

Israel appears to have three main aims. First, to collapse the Iranian state, either through shock and breakdown by killing enough senior officials, or via some sort of internal military coup. Second, to try and destroy Iranian nuclear sites and underground missile cities, or at least to paralyze them long enough to achieve the first and third goals. And third, to bring the US into a direct conflict with Iran. This is because the US better equipped to fight them than Israel is (though victory would still not be guaranteed depending on what Iran chooses to do).

Iranian nuclear facilities are hidden deep underground (800 meters), far beyond the depth range of even the most powerful bunker busters (~70 meters or so), and built such that the visible ground entrances are horizontally far away in an unknown direction from the actual underground chambers. Only an extremely competent full-scale American bombing force all simultaneously using multiple of the most powerful conventional (perhaps even nuclear) bunker busters could even hypothetically hope to breach them (and we have seen how, in practice, American bunker busters have largely failed to impair or deter Ansarallah). There are several analysts on both sides who have concluded that it is entirely impossible to physically prevent Iran from building nukes.

I fully expect the US to join the war. I believe the current ambiguity is a deliberate invention of the US while they work to move their military assets into position, and as soon as they are ready, the US will start bombing Iran. After that, Iran's leadership must - if they haven't already - harden their hearts, and strike back with no fear, or risk following the path of Libya, Syria, and Iraq, either into either surrender, occupation, or annihilation. Every day where they do not possess a nuke is a day where lives are being lost and cities are being bombed.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.

8 US C-17 Globemaster III transport planes flew from Europe to the Middle East overnight, reports claim that they transported air defence missiles.

[–] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 6 points 12 minutes ago

Think it's more about evacuating the bases in Qatar given the flight paths. There were also resupply flights, but I don't think these in particular were those.

[–] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 15 points 41 minutes ago

Doesn't look like any direct hits from the latest Iranian ballistic missile attack, some fires from debris and some footage of non intact re-entry vehicles, but that's it.

[–] blame@hexbear.net 7 points 15 minutes ago

So last Thursday or Friday if I recall correctly the Israeli government basically told everyone to stay home because of the expected response to their attack from Iran. Is that still the case, or are people going to work now? In other words, what is the impact this event is having on the Israeli economy at this point?

This is going to morph into another endless attrition conflict, isn't it? WWIII is shaping up to be the ultimate showdown of industrial capacity vs industrial capacity.

I guess endless conflicts that burn through a lot of equipment as quickly as possible to open up space for more buying is the logical endpoint of a for-profit military force. The good news is that Marxism is the framework to pull this kind of beast by it's leash.

WWIII is shaping up to be the ultimate showdown of industrial capacity vs industrial capacity.

that's good news, though, because the Empire isn't winning that fight

Feels like we may have entered the "out of air defence missiles :(" phase of this war.

[–] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 7 points 19 minutes ago* (last edited 16 minutes ago)

Don't think so, none of the missiles from the latest attack made a direct impact, and this morning Israel fired 20 David's Sling Stunner interceptors at an Iranian missile with early release submissions, trying to intercept all the submunitions.

The US transferred at least hundreds of Patriot interceptors just to protect their bases months ago, there's no way a similar build up wasn't done in Israel. A lot of the interceptors running out talk is overblown at this point. Once Iran has fired 1000 ballistic missiles, then we'll be in that territory. Right now it's around 500-550 fired.

Israel (assuming as they're the one rumoured to be low on them). Iran probably doesn't have many air defense missiles either but they also dont fire them very often since Israeli airpower suppresses them during bombing raids.

Palestine Solidarity Group Rejects Prize From Danish Red-Greens Over Political Demands

The leadership of the Red-Green Alliance, the furthest left you can get in Danish parliamentary politics, is facing internal backlash after imposing last-minute political conditions on a Palestine solidarity group due to receive the party’s annual activism award. The group, Alle På Gaden for et Frit Palæstina (APG), refused the prize, accusing the party of censorship and abandoning its democratic values.

The so-called Grassroots Prize was to be awarded at the party’s annual congress. But on the eve of the ceremony, the Red-Greens’ Executive Committee issued conditions including:

  • No mentioning of topics debated at the congress in the acceptance speech
  • No representatives receiving the pize must have refused to denounce Hamas in the media;
  • The money should be paid to an account with financial links to International Forum, an independent NGO targeted by right-wing media
  • Prize money must only be used for demonstration-related expenses.

APG declined the prize, calling the demands “undemocratic.” “We do not wish to associate with a party that does not allow free speech or open debate,” the group stated on social media.

The move sparked outrage among party members. Gitte Christensen, a long-time activist and member of the independent Red Fund that awarded the prize to APG, said: “It’s the first time the leadership has ever interfered in the prize. I’m extremely frustrated.”

Victoria Salo, a Red-Green candidate from Odense for the upcoming local elections, warned the episode risks damaging cooperation between local branches and the Palestine movement. “It seems like party leadership is trying again to pull the rug out from under a gesture of solidarity with the Palestine movement,” she said.

Delegates responded by launching an alternative fundraiser at the congress, quickly raising over DKK 60,000 (RMB 66,000), six times the prize amount. Activists sees this as a rebuke to party leadership.

The controversy follows a series of tabloid-driven attacks on Internationalt Forum and other groups, attempting to link left-wing figures to Palestinian organizations labelled as "extremists" by zionists and western regimes by digging through decades-old associations and tenous social media posts.

In an open apology, party delegate Mikael Hertoft called the episode “deeply embarrassing,” writing: “These are not conditions you impose on someone you’re honoring.”

APG insists the demands were a political loyalty test. “We reject any attempt to delegitimize parts of the solidarity movement,” said spokesperson Bilal Al-Issa.

Asked why the group could not avoid controversial topics in its speech, he said, “Some of the congress proposals, like the action plan on antisemitism, directly affect our work. We have the right to express concern.”

As the Red-Green leadership, seemingly fearful of attacks from the right-wing press, distances itself from grassroots movements in pursuit of mainstream respectability—including support for NATO and increased military spending—it appears increasingly out of touch with its activist base.

“Is the Red-Greens still the party of movements?” asked Christensen. “I’m starting to doubt it. But I hope it is, as it is clearly stated in oir programme in our programme.”

Israeli Army Radio reports Energy Minister Eli Cohen stating: Eliminating the Iranian Supreme Leader is not a war objective as we focus on destroying or significantly disrupting the nuclear program.

Maybe regime change won't be the goal? Or maybe they just want to create false security.

North westerly direction of dprk launch is interesting. This is a test launch that is designed to be entirely non-provocative in any way. Only China, Mongolia and Russia are out that way and none of them would be upset or regard themselves as targets.

Xi really offering this nerd 5th generation fighters????

[–] Cimbazarov@hexbear.net 1 points 3 minutes ago* (last edited 3 minutes ago)

Trump had said last month that the nuclear-armed South Asian neighbours agreed to the ceasefire after talks mediated by the US, and that the hostilities ended after he urged the countries to focus on trade instead of war.

I love Trump's brain

trump-anguish : And then i told them, dont do war, focus on trade. And then they said wow, youre so right

[–] jackmaoist@hexbear.net 4 points 24 minutes ago* (last edited 23 minutes ago)

Modi and Trump are both top level narcissists so they can't really get along outside of media appearances. The indian Hindutva controlled media has been shifting away from the Modi-Trump brotherhood narrative for some months now.

Unlike removed, Modi can't hand over the spotlight to someone else otherwise his whole divine god king image will falter.

[–] supafuzz@hexbear.net 13 points 46 minutes ago (1 children)

the persians were actually the good guys in that one, too

[–] Leegh@hexbear.net 7 points 25 minutes ago

Considering it portrays Xerxes as a fabulous playboy model that looked like he came out of a Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure manga, I would absolutely bow down to the King of Kings lol.

I also found it funny how ‘300’ portrays the Persians as menacing, savage brown people, while another western film like say, ‘Prince of Persia’, casts a white guy as the main character when the Persians are now the protagonists. It’s literally us-foreign-policy reflected in fictional media lol.

Disperse launchers in the east where Israel can't reach, at night beforehand would be my guess. Then they just wait for the instruction to fire.

[–] supafuzz@hexbear.net 12 points 1 hour ago

maybe the settlers are less effective at blocking the launches in Iran than they used to be?

Trump's going to get knocked into a war with Iran by all the dominoes he's setting up for it, whether he wants to or not.

I'm wagering one of posts on this. If I'm wrong and Trump doesn't attack Iran within the next 2 weeks the mods will get remove a post of mine of their choosing.

[–] CARCOSA@hexbear.net 24 points 59 minutes ago (1 children)

ill just ban you again if you are wrong

Guardian article - emphasis mine

Trump caution on Iran strike linked to doubts over ‘bunker buster’ bomb, officials say

Exclusive: The likelihood of a successful US strike on the Iranian nuclear facility buried deep underground at Fordow is a topic of deep contention, defense officials say

[...]

The effectiveness of GBU-57s has been a topic of deep contention at the Pentagon since the start of Trump’s term, according to two defense officials who were briefed that perhaps only a tactical nuclear weapon could be capable of destroying Fordow because of how deeply it is buried. Trump is not considering using a tactical nuclear weapon on Fordow.

[...]

But the defense officials who received the briefing were told that using conventional bombs, even as part of a wider strike package of several GBU-57s, would not penetrate deep enough underground and that it would only do enough damage to collapse tunnels and bury it under rubble.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 31 points 1 hour ago

Satellite photos of the strikes Israel took against the Arak nuclear facility show Israel can be quite precise if it wants to be
