Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Once all these pieces of shit are lodged in our government theres no going back without bloodshed. This is going to fuck us for years to come.

[–] rauls5@lemmy.zip 46 points 1 week ago (4 children)

He is 44. We get likely 40 years of this element spreading cancer from the inside. Long after trump has decayed into dust.

[–] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 38 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Jesus christ he's 44? His picture makes him look late 50s going 60s.

[–] procrastitron@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That was my thought exactly.

That guy is younger than me but looks old enough to be my dad.

[–] LodeMike 17 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Being a piece of shit ages you.

[–] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Somehow makes you damn near immortal too

[–] PrincessLeiasCat@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This is so fucking depressing yet true.

[–] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Been here way too long - I want out.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

Being a piece of shit gets you rich and getting rich keeps you alive longer in this stupid fucking country.

[–] ruuster13@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago

I wonder what complex comes from a lifetime of looking 20 years older than you are. We're all gonna get to find out together because I bet it's what stood out to el naranjefe

[–] shishka_b0b@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 week ago

I think it's actually gonna be much worse since that is clearly a 4000 year old ghoul who will be roaming graveyards long after we've all decayed into dust

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Or, we don't.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

He's the same age I am, and he looks about 20 years older than I do.

[–] takeda@lemmy.dbzer0.com 32 points 1 week ago

And they all know how shitty this is, that's why it always is by a single vote, so the ones in a moderate districts can act like they never supported it.

[–] AngryRobot@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

On election day, I said this only ends in civil war. No dictator has ever voluntarily left power. In my opinion, California then Oregon and Wahington, will attempt to secede from the US since they have to now pay for all the services that the fed no longer pays for. If not, we'll start to see an organized resistance conducting strategic guerrilla raids on ICE and the camps.

There was Cincinnatus, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucius_Quinctius_Cincinnatus , but I'm just being pedantic for the sake of bringing him up.

We aren't in a world where people who can be genuinely trusted with that kind of power would ever get near to the position to receive it.

[–] Agrajag@scribe.disroot.org 67 points 1 week ago

It's amazing that "lifetime" positions are not considered controversial in and of themselves by most people.

FINALLY! NO more DEI hires like Harvard Educated Ketanji Brown Jackson! We FINALLY have the BEST People for the Job like Emil Bove who's ~~WHITE!~~ ~~told his Clients it's OK to Break The Law!~~ ~~Trump's Personal Attorney!~~ ~~NOT BLACK!~~ A person!

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 25 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So weird someone would be put in when half the room says no.

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago

Seriously. If you can’t get at least 70% to agree, 80% for fewer than 10 people voting, then find another guy.

[–] MuskyMelon@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago

Calling all plumbers, calling all plumbers!

[–] boydster@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Well this is a particularly bad mistake at a quite inopportune time, I feel like. Silver lining, perhaps: a lot of crazy shit is unfolding in front of a public that is becoming more aware of how bad of an actor the current president is showing himself to be, and he might be in real danger of losing control of his base in numbers that matter.

Voting season will be a proving ground. I am hoping midterms have a strong and resolved response to this shit and the results are outside margins of error. I can't accept the alternative, it's too sad a prospect to really process right now. I really do think a fair vote will reveal the resilience of our democracy. I really fucking hope we have free and fair elections for midterms. I think we will, I hope beyond hope we do, I am asserting we will and now reality must bend to my will, we will. I hope.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I thought that a lot. I think we simply don't understand how utterly pervasive this propaganda network is. Children, raised on Rush Limbaugh, now have children who follow skeezy podcasters.

With corporate news being the sewer it is, I don't think we're going to get out of here. Some major media change is going to have to happen and that's never happened in anyone-here's lifetime.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 13 points 1 week ago

They took over judicial branch some time ago. I wander what's going on in Pentagon. Is the top brass full of loyal fascist already?

There are zero non-violent solutions

In all fairness, this was not hard to call.

If AK and ME are willing to dissent, you know it's a bad idea

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 week ago

Nah,Collins and Murkowski only vote against GOP nominees and bills when they know that they'll still be confirmed/pass and for Dem ones when they know they won't.

The rest of the time they follow the party line as slavishly as the rest of the fascists and fascist enablers.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Holy shit, this guy is only in his forties? I thought this guy was like mid-60s.
