This isn't a real book cover. You can tell because it's supposed to say Berenstein bears

[–] fiddlesticks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 1 month ago

It's berenstain because the predator is gonna turn them into a stain

So are they

[–] Red1@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 month ago (3 children)

It's the Mandela effect; People remember it as the Bearenstein Bears, but it's Bearenstain and it doesn't feel right. I want to go back to my 'verse

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Occam's razor suggests that it can't possibly be the fact that -stein is a much more common name ending and since it's children's media most people will have last read the name while still a child and likely never realize that it was specifically a, therefore misremembering the name assuming it was an e. look how long it even took me to type. convoluted, complex theory.

rather the answer must be the simplest: a break in the spacetime continuum.

[–] fluxion@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It actually is just Berenstein and everyone else in the world just has a shit memory and bootleg merchandise

[–] Omnipitaph@reddthat.com 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I legit still have my books from when I was a kid. Berenstien. My friend also has their books from when they were a kid. Berenstain. We argued about it off and on for like a decade before we finally settled it. We only have one book in common, a halloween one, but other than that we have no idea what happened. They were printed in different years, but why would that matter??? IDK, it is a mystery.

[–] tamal3@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I could really use a picture of both books, preferably together (but either way). It would really help me talk to my neighbor who brings up the Mandela effect at least 5x per year.

[–] Omnipitaph@reddthat.com 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'll see if I can track her down. She moved to the UK for university about 6 years ago, but I doubt she brought all her childhood stuff with her(her whole family is still in southern California). My stuff is in storage near Washington at the moment, but I should be going up there before December to nab some stuff.

I bet the photos we took are in those boxes too xD

[–] tamal3@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

You'll be internet famous if you manage to get a photo! You might also get rich on ebay if you sell them as a pack.

And, really, you'll help me win my lovely neighborhood back from the same repetitive conversation, hah.

[–] Omnipitaph@reddthat.com 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Hahaha, I doubt anyone would want to buy my old childhood books. They're covered in dragon ball stickers, drawn on, stained with various foods and drinks... over all I was not very respectful of my books when I was 7 xD The internet fame would be nice though! Maybe, I hear that backfires for a lot of people lol

Well, I'm setting a calendar reminder for every day I'll be in Washington this December to hit the storage unit on the way back. Gotta grab my old laptop and external hard drive anyway so why not!

[–] tamal3@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Have you ever met someone who is obsessed with the supposed Mandela Effect? I'm not kidding when I say I have to listen to this monthly. I'm sure my generally sane neighbor isnt an outlier; these people are seriously obsessed.

It might be more fun for me if I were a few years older, but most of the examples are from before my time by a few years. Regardless, there's only so many times I can hear about the Berenst**n Bears before I start a neighborhood Gofund Me to buy your books off ebay so we can all have some peace at the next block party lmao.

Sister Bear: You're hit! You're bleeding, man.

Brother Bear: I ain't got time to bleed.

[–] MohamedMoney@feddit.org 20 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Brother Bear: This stuff’ll make you a goddamn sexual tyrannosaurus, just like me.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago

E: God dann i missed the other comment referencing that omega cringe line

[–] JimVanDeventer@lemmy.world 21 points 1 month ago

This is one of those Mandela Effect things. It’s actually spelled Preaeadeatour. Most people mix that up.

[–] espentan@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Luckily help is on its' way!

[–] Flames5123@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

This looks like AI and Lemmy hates AI.

[–] Klear@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

People don't have a problem with the Predator shooting an eye-beam out of its nose so...

After the Archie one, I can believe anything.

As a mobile user with large fingers, I don't like what you did there

[–] pruwybn@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 month ago

Yep, I've been trying to open it for a minute, i don't think it's going to happen.

[–] sbv@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

I had no idea that existed. Thank you.

[–] gnomesaiyan@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

Fuck it, I'm gonna say it: the Predator's laser targeting system doesn't do damage. That comes from the shoulder-mounted cannon.

[–] BabyVi@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

My childhood best friend would make parody versions of these books in elementary school by tracing the pictures and modifying them. Pretty amusing how violent and sarcastic a child's imagination can get.

[–] Sergio@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

tracing the pictures and modifying them

some activists made an entirely new issue of Tintin that way...

[–] BabyVi@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Neat, thanks for sharing! :-)

[–] beemikeoak@lemmynsfw.com 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

This is AI trying to figure out who the old fucks are. I remember watching these bears in black and white TV. You had to wait a few seconds for the vacuum tubes to heat up. If you didn't like it you could clack clack the top knob to one of 13 different channels.

[–] pinball_wizard@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I was jealous of fancy city folks with their 13 channels all showing essentially the same thing. I only had 3 channels essentially showing the same thing.

[–] beemikeoak@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Same here, I forgot about that. That's right, you can go to channel, 2, 6, 12. Everything else was static...which you could watch if you want to.

[–] pinball_wizard@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yes. The thirteen positions on the dial seemed to be the product of rampant optimism.

But I imagine some lucky city kid had several additional watching options.

[–] beemikeoak@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 1 month ago

Wasn't there a third knob for more channels? I remember having an old green screen that had a double knob on it for that. I don't remember the number of channels possible though.

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

FYI the Predator only fights opponents who are strong and honorable to fight. So with that being said what is the body count of the Berenstain Bears?

[–] SurfinBird@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 month ago

The faces on mom & the kids. Lmfao

[–] blockheadjt@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Title doesn't really fit the pattern of the real books; too many words/syllables. "... Get Hunted" or "... meet The Predator" would be more plausible titles.

[–] huppakee@feddit.nl 3 points 1 month ago

Show this if you find someone who believes ai doesn't bring any good to this world.

[–] SPRUNT@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I was expecting the predator to be Trump or some other celebrity pedophile.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 1 points 1 month ago

I like it. The art style always creeped me out a little ass a kid.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 month ago

Boy, whatever the mom and kids are looking at must be pretty bad if it has their attention more than a Predator!
