This week's megathread is based largely on a detailed article from People's Dispatch, featuring statements and analysis from Achy Ekessi, the General Secretary of the Revolutionary Communist Party of Ivory Coast (PCRCI), brought to my attention by @jack@hexbear.net's comment in the last megathread.

The president of Ivory Coast, the 83 year old Alassane Ouattara, is aiming for a fourth term in power while barring out much of the opposition. I can't really do the all the history of how the situation wound up this way justice in a preamble as it's fairly complicated (read the article if you are interested), but to summarize, Ouattara is currently the only coherent candidate for the French to support. Back in 2011, the French helped Ouattara overthrow the previous (pan-Africanist) president, Laurent Gbagbo, and then arrested him and sent him to the ICC, and he was then acquitted and released in 2021.

Gbagbo is now running against Ouattara, but his base, the working class, has large swathes that are not present on the voting rolls and so it would be unlikely for him to win. On the opposite side of the spectrum is Tidjane Thiam, a former CEO of the Swiss Bank Credit Suisse, whose base is in the richer strata of the Ivory Coast, which overlaps with Ouattara's base. He would be more likely to win, but would certainly maintain many Western imperialist relationships. Ouattara, however, has simplified the electoral situation by simply barring both of them from running in the election at all.

Ouattara has, on paper, delivered some amount of economic development to the Ivory Coast. But as expected, most of it is funnelled to the bourgeois, as well as to foreign corporations and governments, while the working class are swallowed by the cost of living crisis. There has been significant infrastructure projects, but these have not only generated massive debt, they also have only really addressed the damage caused by the 2011 civil war and intervention by the French.

The rest of Western Africa has either entirely exited the orbit of France (Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso), are wavering/unstable (Senegal, Benin, Guinea), are beginning to show doubts (Nigeria, Ghana), or are economically weak enough to not be a major blow for the French to lose (Togo, Guinea-Bissau). The loss of the Ivory Coast would be a major setback for French neocolonialism, and be a potent example to nearby countries.

Estonian authorities respond to a "fuck Israel" sign by bringing out the police, an ambulance and the fire department

The Estonian state news ERR reports: ^19/08/2025^

Vaiko Vaher, the operational manager of the Northern Prefecture, told Delfi that a patrol responded to the scene and the police repeatedly tried to convince the man to take down the poster himself, but the 51-year-old man refused to do so.

"The man tried to walk away from the conversation, and when the police asked him not to leave, the man became aggressive and pushed the police officer," Vaher said. "During the arrest, the man spat in the direction of the police officer."

Since the poster was on the second floor, the police asked the rescue board for help to remove the obscene poster with a ladder. The police also opened misdemeanor proceedings under the section on insulting a public official.

"Everyone can express their opinion, but it must be done peacefully, respectfully, and without using profanity,"

A video of what was happening on the spot also spread in the local social media group in Kalamaja, but the video has now been removed for unknown reasons.

Danish state media has published an article on Lavrov wearing a CCCP sweatshirt to the meeting in Alaska. clearly this proves that we should all be afraid of Russian imperialism. The article also consistently references russian imperialism as happening between 1917 and 1992, which is funny if slightly sad. There is literally nothing of value in the article, but I wanted to post about it anyway, since I'm forced into the office today.

🚨 A Palestinian leadership source to Al-Mayadeen: — Hamas and Palestinian resistance factions agreed to the proposal of the Egyptian and Qatari mediators.

The proposal stipulates a withdrawal of 1,000 meters deep in areas north and east of the Strip, with the exception of Shuja'iyya and Beit Lahia.

In exchange for 10 living captives, 140 Palestinian prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment and 60 sentenced to more than 15 years will be released.

The proposal stipulates amending the redeployment maps to the north and east.

Aid will be sent to the Gaza Strip immediately upon the agreement's entry into force, in intensive and coordinated quantities according to the January 19, 2025 agreement.

Aid includes fuel, water, electricity, rehabilitation of hospitals and bakeries, and rubble removal equipment.

The United Nations, its agencies, the Red Crescent, and international organizations operating in Gaza are receiving and distributing aid.

The proposal stipulates opening the Rafah crossing in both directions according to the previous agreement.

For every "israeli" dead body, 10 Palestinian bodies are released.

The proposal stipulates the release of all children and women.

This sounds quite bad but the fact that they need to call up 60,000 fresh troops suggests things haven't been going well for them at all.

There is no way the situation in Bolivia will end well. Both candidates are terrible, and even if it were a left-wing candidate, Evo would completely destroy any government in power. Either there will be a military coup in Bolivia or new elections soon.

The urgent need to procure more THAAD interceptors

The U.S. Army’s Terminal High Altitude Area Defense “Talon” interceptor inventory is unacceptably low, potentially leaving U.S. forces vulnerable in a future conflict. The service reportedly consumed nearly a quarter of its interceptors during the 12-Day War between Israel and Iran in June, and absent aggressive congressional intervention, it will take too long to replenish and expand stocks. The U.S. Missile Defense Agency awarded a $2.06 billion contract modification to produce Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, or THAAD, “Talon” interceptors late last month. That step is laudable but insufficient. Congress needs to help by approving the administration’s request to shift money between programs to purchase more interceptors, providing enough funding to procure the maximum number of interceptors industry can produce next fiscal year and pushing the Pentagon and industry to expand production capacity as quickly as possible, among other steps.

THAAD is a U.S.-produced, land-based missile defense system that uses hit-to-kill interceptors to destroy short-, medium- and intermediate-range ballistic missiles both inside and outside of the atmosphere. Currently, the U.S. Army possesses eight THAAD batteries, with six launchers per battery and eight interceptors per launcher for a total of 48 interceptors loaded per battery. THAAD forms the upper layer of the Army’s land-based theater ballistic missile defenses, with Patriot comprising the lower layer and both complementing naval interceptors, such as the SM-3 and SM-6. During June’s 12-Day War, Iran reportedly fired over 500 ballistic missiles at Israel during the conflict and around a dozen at a U.S. airbase in Qatar, destroying a geodesic dome. The United States assisted Israel in shooting down many of the ballistic missiles, including with the multiple THAAD batteries deployed to the Middle East during the war, demonstrating interoperability within a larger architecture.

Estimates vary on the precise number of THAAD interceptors expended, but The Wall Street Journal, citing U.S. officials, reported that more than 150 interceptors were fired. To put that number in perspective, the Department of Defense previously committed funding for 646 interceptors, according to Pentagon fiscal 2026 budget documents published in June 2025. Understanding that some of those may not have been delivered yet or were used in testing, the expenditure of 150 interceptors would amount to roughly a quarter of the total U.S. THAAD interceptor inventory.

It is reasonable to ask why the U.S. has such a small inventory of interceptors. One need look no further than the level of procurement before the 12-Day War. The Pentagon requested only 25 interceptors in its base defense budget request for FY26 and another 12 through reconciliation, for a total of 37. While admittedly an increase compared to the paltry 11 procured in FY24 and 12 in FY25, the procurement of 37 interceptors next fiscal year is entirely insufficient. Indeed, at that rate, it would take around four years to replenish the interceptors used during the 12-Day War. Given growing threats to American interests in the Middle East, Europe and the Pacific, that is unacceptable. If the United States struggled to deal with Iran’s arsenal, imagine what might happen in a conflict with China, which possesses around 2,700 short-, medium- and intermediate-range ballistic missiles and is building more. To make matters worse, Russia more than doubled its ballistic missile production from 2023 to 2024 and continues to further expand production, according to Ukrainian intelligence. Additionally, North Korea continues to advance its missile program to threaten regional targets and the U.S. homeland, further underscoring the need for more robust U.S. missile defense infrastructure and stockpiles.

Thankfully, there are steps available to replenish and expand the U.S. Army’s inventory of THAAD interceptors. As a first step, Congress should approve without delay the above threshold reprogramming request submitted on July 15. That will allow the Pentagon to move money and acquire additional interceptors more quickly, especially with the Missile Defense Agency’s July 28 $2.06 billion contract modification. But Congress should not stop there. For FY26, Congress should authorize and appropriate the funding necessary to procure the maximum quantity of interceptors that industry can produce. Current full-rate production is 96 THAAD “Talon” interceptors per year, and industry could produce as many as 144 interceptors in FY26. With additional steps, industry could produce even more going forward. Admittedly, a portion of current production levels goes toward fulfilling foreign military sales to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, whose orders kept the production line from atrophying while U.S. demand (unwisely) slackened.

But industry is prepared to make the investments necessary to increase production levels further, if only Washington will procure the maximum quantity industry can produce and signal to industry its determination to do so for at least the next five years.

uh, yeah, sure, "prepared", just like how Intel was prepared to build all those factories with the CHIPS act...

The assertive use of multiyear procurement authority and appropriation can incentivize such industry behavior. To encourage such a decision by industry and to inform future Pentagon requests and congressional authorizations and appropriations, Congress should require an annual report from the Pentagon listing 1) current maximum production levels for THAAD interceptors and 2) steps that are being taken and could be taken to expand maximum production capacity each year. Notably, the Senate Appropriations Committee approved an increase of $923 million for additional THAAD interceptors and related investments on July 31. That is an effort the full Congress and the administration should support. Washington has underinvested in air and missile defense for too long and is now facing the consequences. Thankfully, there are several steps available that can begin to address the shortfall of THAAD interceptors. Ensuring U.S. service members have the missile defenses they need in a future conflict requires urgent action in Washington today.

how's European re-militarization going? https://archive.ph/EwToI

Bulgaria Still Waiting for F-16 Jets as U.S. Cites Shortage of Tanker Aircraft

Bulgaria ordered its first F-16s back in 2019 but has received only two so far, with Washington blaming the delays on a lack of refueling tankers. Bulgaria's long wait for the F-16 Block 70 drags on. Out of the first batch of eight fighters ordered in 2019, only two have been delivered. Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov admitted the military still has no clear timeline for the arrival of the remaining jets, Bulgarian outlet Mediapool reports. According to the original plan, most of the aircraft were supposed to arrive between July and October 2025. However, deliveries have been stalled due to what the U.S. described as a shortage of aerial refueling tankers, needed to ferry the fighters across the Atlantic. "Their number is limited and they are heavily tasked with supporting US Air Force priority missions. Flights to partner nations are rescheduled or canceled when necessary," the Departament of Defense's response states.

I guess the USAF's inventory situation can't be all that rosy if they can't spare eight fucking jets

From Defense Express we want to add, that unlike Sweden, which ships its Gripens overseas by commercial vessels, the U.S. insists on flying F-16s to export customers. The heavy tanker workload has raised eyebrows, as the only recent known large-scale deployment was during June's Midnight Hammer strike against iran's nuclear program.

But I thought the US was supposed to be a magical country with the bestest logistics around and can just pull resources out of their ass and deploy a gajilion troops in any part of the world instantly?! You're telling me they can't find some spare tankers to fly EIGHT planes across the Atlantic? Or I guess this whole thing is just a flimsy excuse, because of the above point

also, not sure if Iran being with a non-capital letter is a misspelling, or the Ukrainians have extended their policy of spelling Russia with no capital letters to Iran for... some reason? What the hell has Iran even done to them, jeez

For now, Sofia can only wait. The Foreign Military Sales (FMS) framework, under which the F-16s were purchased, does not allow for penalties in case of delays — a situation where Bulgaria sanctioning the U.S. seems unthinkable.

with allies (or suzerains) like these... love to make a bulwark against the evil ruskies and then not bother arming them with anything

Complicating matters, Bulgaria's very first F-16V Block 70 suffered a major defect. Upon arrival in April, the jet was declared unfit to fly due to a faulty circuit board. The issue forced it to miss the planned flyover at the May 6 Armed Forces Day parade. Sources suggested the problem arose because the original 2019 contract, worth $1.2 billion for eight fighters, left no budget for spare parts. In 2022, Sofia ordered another eight F-16s for $1.3 billion — about $162.5 million per jet — but even that price looks modest compared to todays contracts, such as those for the Philippines.

Edit. I haven't often seen a more perfect example of the pathetic "need to become the imperialist" bootlicker mentality that permeates the culture here.

They have marched out the most cringe academic experts to bolster this bs national pride that is really just the shattered wannabe-colonialist ego of the national bourgeoisie hiding in plain sight. It's sickening, having witnessed this bs all my life.

Inkarri Islam, officially the Islamic Center in Peru (Spanish: Centro Islámico en el Perú), is a nonprofit organization located in the Department of Apurímac. It works to unify Andean culture with Islam.

Purpose: Promoting Islam in Peru from Andean cosmology

Ideology: Islamism Clericalism, Islamic Democracy, Islamic Republicanism

The organization was founded by Edwar Quiroga Vargas in 2012, as an Andean Indigenous rights organizations. Vargas is a Shia convert, and a self-described Ethnocacerist. The organization was accused of inciting social protests in the High Andean Region of Peru. The organization participated in protests in 2019 against the Las Bambas copper mine.

Dardo Lopez-Dolz, former vice minister of the Ministry of the Interior, suggested that the Twelver Shia belief of the Reappearance of Muhammad al-Mahdi mirrors the myth of the Inkarri.

In the 2021 Peruvian general election, Inkarri Islam endorsed Pedro Castillo.

The organization has been criticized for its alleged ties to remnants of the Shining Path, and alleged ties and sympathies to Hezbollah and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Peru being the second most socially conservative country in South America has spawned some really weird ideologies...

What is the cut off? The cut off wasn’t when footages circulated of IDF soldiers r*ping a Palestinian. The cut off wasn’t a voice message from a young girl begging medics to come help her and then when she got shot at 355 times. The cut off wasn’t when IDF soldiers shot medics and then bulldozed their bodies. The cut off wasn’t the footage of beheaded [Palestinian] babies. The cut off wasn’t when footage showed Palestinians holding white flags and being blown up or going to get aid and being shot at. The cut off wasn’t when people saw the occupation do the exact same thing in the West Bank or settlers invading Al Aqsa mosque and beating people. The cut off wasn’t when IDF soldiers attacked a young man with Down syndrome and forced his family to leave him to die. The cut off wasn’t when babies were left to die in incubators or as israel [sic] now stops baby formula. The cut off wasn’t when israel [sic] bombed Mosques and Churches or schools and hospitals. The cut off wasn’t when IDF killed over 200 journalists. The cut off wasn’t when medics were kidnapped and others were killed. The cut off wasn’t when footage circulated of a mother digging up her child from under the rubble. The cut off wasn’t when Palestinians were shown displaced in tents. The cut off wasn’t when footages emerged of Palestinians being burnt alive. The cut off wasn’t when a child watched her mother burn. The cut off wasn’t when a child sat staring at a wall not blinking and shaking in shock and horror. The cut off wasn’t a Nakba in 48. The cut off wasn’t Sherine Abu Aklah who was shot doing her job and exposing what’s happening. The cut off wasn’t a young boy explaining how he watched his sister fall through the floor and die. The cut off wasn’t doctors explaining that wounds are now infected with maggots. The cut off wasn’t a mother having to choose which child lives and dies because of the lack of medical equipment. These are all incidents burnt in my brain from memory and so when I hear someone say ‘death to the IDF’ my heart burns because the alternative is a silent world. A world that is depraved and distracted. A world where speaking up against this much evil and decay will land you in jail, fired from a job, discredited or ignored. I expect this level of depravity from israel [sic] I did not expect this level of complicity from the world.

So if Trump actually gets a peace deal done with Ukraine, territorial concessions or no, he's got a decent claim to the Nobel Peace Prize, right? Am I crazy to think that? Sure as fuck he's got more a reason to get it than Obama ever did. Like, again real or not he can "claim" he got ceasefires or peace deals with:

  • Gaza (yes obviously fell apart)
  • Israel-Iran by tweeting it out (even though he himself ordered the United States to participate in the conflict)
  • Pakistan-India
  • Cambodia-Thailand (even though his claim on this one is really shaky)
  • Ukraine-Russia

That's not nothing? Again, awarding the Peace Prize to the President of the most evil empire on the past two centuries is ridiculous, but the Nobel committee has already done that, and for a far less deserving recipient whose sole accomplishment by that point was not being George W. Bush.

[–] ColombianLenin@hexbear.net 49 points 1 week ago

The Nobel Peace Prize is western liberal bullshit not too disimilar from the Economics prize and Obama + Trump winning them only serves to deligitimize them more.

We should not pay attention to that any more than we pay attention to the Oscars or Grammys or whatever.

A couple weeks back @xiaohongshu@hexbear.net asked me about the Democratic Action Party (DAP) and I was a bit too brief about the party and why any genuine scientifc socialist would not ever rally behind the party so I’m here to rectify it.

At first I would like to highlight a 2 part article that holistically addresses the party, in which I will also quote heavily from with further commentary below.

Kit Siang and DAP – a response to Lim Teck Ghee

DAP and a multiracial Malaysia – a response to Lim Teck Ghee

The main issue that the Malaysian Left grapples with today is that the “left” in this country are chauvinists. In other words, they themselves perpetuate racialism and deradicalized “socialism”. This has been persistent issue since the start of the 20th century. For reasons that have been extensively discussed by many here, communist and socialist politics (in form) never took root outside Chinese and Indians. This meant Malays, but also large parts of other ethnic groups, whether Orang Asal or even mixed Peranakans.

This then sets the stage for the DAP, the favourite scapegoat for some parts of the mainstream elite, who continuously accuses them of being Chinese communists. The problem is of course that the DAP itself has never strayed too far from the neoliberal mainstream even as the “key opposition” of “Malay supremacy”. (Quick note, it is often translated as “supremacy” but ‘Ketuanan’ also is commonly translated to “dominance” or “premiership”).

Kit Siang [the leader of DAP for most of it’s life] has been a dominant figure in the DAP for a number of reasons. One, it had the support of the urban Chinese voters in the urban Chinese belt stretching from Perak to Negeri Sembilan and with pockets of Chinese support in Melaka and Johor.

…He was able to articulate the Chinese electoral concerns in a forthright manner, in some cases openly courting a Chinese chauvinist line, both inside and outside the Dewan Rakyat [parliament] and as an editor of the Rocket from 1965-1969.

…The Malay chauvinism was countered by the blunt Chinese chauvinism of DAP. This was despite DAP’s lip service for a democratic and socialist Malaysia

No party in the current coalition are truly anti-racialism. Even for the “progressives”. That is the nature of bourgeois parliamentarianism.

…Teck Ghee falls into the same trap that Kit Siang has made for himself, a pretence of DAP’s multiracialism and then hidden undercurrent of unadulterated Chinese chauvinism. There is no point in making passing references to the late Karpal Singh to show that DAP has non-Chinese credentials.

… There were no Chinese legal firms that were courageous or competent to take the legal briefs from DAP. If they were, I am sure DAP would have turned to them. There was none forthcoming and hence that relationship was a relationship of convenience, between Karpal and (now his family’s legal business) and DAP.

The superstructure of the Chinese capitalist economy in Malaysia is an important consideration to know here. It involves clan associates, paternal relationships, conscious disengagement with other ethnic groups and in a lot of aspects, right-wing Chinese nationalism. This is because the 1949 Chinese revolution, or even a 1966 cultural revolution, never took place in this country.

Instead, Chinese capital became a useful “opposition” of Malaysian capitalism, in which race becomes the focal point instead of class struggle. This is why of the top 50 richest people in Malaysia, 48 are Chinese. This is where you get stories of Chinese landlords refusing rent to non-Chinese people.

The usual rant about discriminatory NEP and discrimination has outlived its political usefulness as an intellectual narrative. The questions now posed are what did DAP do when it was in power? Not just in Penang or some of the states where it shared power, but at the federal level when it was in power, albeit briefly.

This can be said even more now that the DAP forms a large part of the unity government in power. Just recently, a member of DAP argued for a two-tier minimum wage structure between migrant workers and citizens. I guess this is the bare truth of their slogan “Malaysian Malaysia”.

In the end, class struggle continuously remains the only avenue for anyone seeking for genuine anti-racism and social justice. “Multiculturalism”, in actuality, remains to be bourgeois social contract theory, lacking the scientific materialist outlook necessary for revolutionary and lasting social change.

The US naval fleet that was heading to Latin America returns to its country of origin due to Hurricane Erin. The mission is expected to resume on Sunday. The Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group (ARG), comprised of the USS Iwo Jima, USS Fort Lauderdale, and USS San Antonio, returned to Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia, to avoid the severe weather of Hurricane Erin, which had become a Category 5 storm. The group had recently deployed from Norfolk, initially heading to the Caribbean for anti-drug trafficking efforts, but the hurricane forced its early return to port.

"The Argument" is a new well funded liberal media thing. Of course, they are fighting against the very equal evils of both right-wing and left-wing groups!! They somehow managed to get one token left-ish guy onboard, Matt Bruenig - I hope he plans to just troll, if that is the case he won't be there long.

Anyway, as people have already pointed out in the comments, the only example of the horrible "post liberal left" policies that they cite is....... the famous post liberal leftist Joe Biden implementing tariffs on Chinese EVs!

Times of Israel - Legal group hails breakthrough as US judge equates Israeli flag with Jewish identity https://archive.is/MTtAM

“the strongest language a federal court has come out with yet
 that anti-Zionism is obviously antisemitism."

In future lawsuits alleging antisemitism stemming from anti-Israel activism,
for example, plaintiffs will be able to cite the Sumrall lawsuit as evidence t
hat there is a legal standard equating anti-Zionism with anti-Jewish
discrimination. Mainen said the case would likely be “heavily cited” in the future.

The lawsuit also made novel use of an obscure federal legal provision dating back
to the Civil War era aimed at combating racial discrimination. The provision, first
enacted as the Civil Rights Act of 1866, guarantees equal rights for all racial
groups, and Jews have been recognized by the Supreme Court as a race for
purposes of civil rights law. The provision elevates racially motivated assault from
state court to federal court.

“If I’m on the street and I hit someone, assault and battery, that’s not really a federal
crime. That’s a state crime. But if I’m on the street and I hit someone because of
their race, this law federalizes that violent act,” Mainen said. “It allows you to sue in
federal court when there’s a hate crime component to it. This case in DC was the
first post-October 7 case, and it’s possibly the first ever antisemitism case to use
this to apply it to antisemitic violence.”

footage of a Russian tank surviving numerous drone hits (and I think mines?)

Drones are, in fact, not instant death-rays, and sufficiently-armored vehicles are quite capable of surviving them. Ironically, the Soviet style of tanks, which have historically been considered to be inferior in terms of armor by Western commentators, are probably going to end up much more survivable, since their starting light weight gives more wiggle room for extra armor to be added on, while NATO tanks which are already inching towards 70 tonnes have a lot less room for upgrades.

On the eve of negotiations with the United States to decide the future course of the Russia - Ukraine war, Ukraine has publicly unveiled a new cruise missile: The FP-5 "Flamingo". An AP journalist posted a picture of the missile to his Facebook yesterday:

Test launch footage

Now is the missile an indigenous Ukrainian design? The answer to this question, as you can probably guess, is no. This is the Milanion FP-5. Milanion is a UK and UAE based defence company. So Ukraine has got the ability to locally manufacture these weapons, if I had to guess they purchased manufacturing rights from Milanion, and the purchase was funded by the EU, likely Germany. Germany did say that they had funded the manufacturing of 500 long range missiles for Ukraine by July 31st. Because it's a Milanion FP-5 and not an indigenous Ukrainian design, the specifications are the same:

Source - Milanion brochure

Most notable is the warhead weight of 1000kg, and the range of 3000km, along with high subsonic cruise speeds.

And as anyone familiar with WW2 history can tell, this is a modernised version of the V1 buzz bomb concept, fielded by Nazi Germany in WW2.

⭕️ Israeli army operates 'Legitimization Cell' to shape Gaza media narrative

The Israeli army is using a specialized unit known as the “Legitimization Cell" to collect intelligence from Gaza and enhance Israel’s public image.

Formed after 7 October, the unit focuses on gathering intel about Hamas’s alleged use of schools and hospitals for military purposes. It also identifies Gaza-based journalists who could be depicted as undercover Hamas operatives, in an effort to counter mounting global criticism over Israel’s killing of reporters, the most recent being Al Jazeera journalist Anas al-Sharif, killed in an Israeli airstrike this past week.

The Legitimization Cell’s members are reportedly intent on finding journalists they could associate with Hamas and mark as potential targets.

From Russian telegram:

It is still too early to guess what the future of Ukraine and our entire region will be, because there are no fixed agreements on peace yet. But we can already guess its contours. Those that were marked on the map in Trump's office.

The territories that are under the de facto control of Russia will remain there. Kiev and the Europeans will resist the exchange of territories in every possible way in order to prevent the loss of the remaining part of the Donetsk region. Perhaps they will bargain for it for themselves at the expense of preventing the introduction of troops from European countries. There will be tough bargaining for this issue.

But in general, the border configuration is clear. Kharkov, Kherson, Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporozhye, Nikolaev, Odessa will remain part of Ukraine. At this stage, Russia has no opportunity to fight for these cities, for which this would most likely mean turning into ruins.

Thus, Ukrainian statehood in the form it has become in recent years - with a strong nationalist, pro-Western and anti-Russian core will remain. Let's add to this the manifold increase in revanchism, reinforced by territorial and human losses.

Western security guarantees will certainly include strengthening the Ukrainian army, pumping it with weapons. That is, in fact, denazification and demilitarization of Ukraine will not happen. It is unlikely that even after the presidential elections in Ukraine, political influence will be gained by forces that are at least neutral towards Russia and Belarus. The EU, Britain, and the USA will continue to keep the Ukrainian political and information space under complete control.

Ukraine will turn into a springboard for an acute geopolitical and ideological struggle with Russia and its allies for many years. The tools of our influence on Ukraine are unlikely to be subject to serious revision and change, which means that it will be extremely limited. The incorporation of new territories into Russia, their restoration, will certainly have a positive strategic and economic effect, which, however, will be limited by the ongoing confrontation.

We will be dealing with a delayed conflict, for which Ukraine and Europe will prepare with the utmost seriousness. Its start will most likely be timed to coincide with the transition of power in Russia and Belarus in 10-15 years. By that time, Europe's military industry will have gained the momentum necessary for a new phase of the conflict. And in the US, other politicians may come to power.

Beyond what’s written above, also a reminder that the EU just signed a deal with Trump to purchase $750 billion worth of energy products and another $600 billion investment in the US until 2028. There is no way the EU can pay for all these promises, and that can only mean one thing: the subjugation of Russia into a colony from which they can extract the wealth from.

This reminds me of the post-WWI geopolitical configuration where the US was demanding the European states to pay back their debt, for which they simply did not have the economic capacity to repay. And thus, they squeezed the defeated Germany even harder, and directly led to the rise of Hitler and Nazism.

The war propaganda is already in place to paint Russia as an existential threat to the European nations. Militarization is occurring at increasingly rapid pace. The rise of fascism is now inevitable in Europe.

Rodrigo Paz, a neoliberal, takes the lead in the exit polls in Bolivia's elections. If the exit polls are confirmed, the second round will be between Paz and Quiroga. Doria Medina falls to third place.

His slogan is “Capitalism for all, with 50/50 decentralization.”

He advocates for the “50/50 agenda,” 'radical' decentralization of the state, use of blockchain, foreign exchange fund, and universal basic income for women, combining reforms and liberal social justice.

He is the son of Jaime Paz Zamora, former president of Bolivia in the 1990s, a period also marked by austerity measures and privatizations. Paz built his career as a senator for Tarija, in the south of the country, and gained prominence by presenting himself as a voice for renewal, although his career is directly linked to traditional political families.

Jorge 'Tuto' Quiroga is a Bolivian politician and industrial engineer who served as the 62nd president of Bolivia from 2001 to 2002. He previously served as the 36th vice president of Bolivia from 1997 to 2001 under Far-Right Military Dictator Hugo Banzer and as minister of finance under Neoliberal Jaime Paz Zamora in 1992.

During the interim government of Jeanine Áñez, he was briefly appointed from 2019 to 2020 as the country's international spokesperson to denounce alleged human rights violations by the previous government.

He became president when Banzer resigned because of aggravated health problems (he died a year following his resignation). Quiroga assumed office as acting president on 1 July 2001 and was sworn in on 7 August, to complete Banzer's five-year mandate.

When his goverment collapsed in 2002, he blamed the USA and Europe. He said Bolivia had the most open economy in South America, and that he gave the Westerns everything they wanted, and that when he needed help and aid, they refused to grant him.

While Quiroga wants to sell Bolivia to the USA, Rodrigo Paz thanked Brazil for accepting Bolivia into Mercosur. Quiroga believes that Bolivia should have closer diplomatic and economic relations with Brazil.

Bolivia is going to elect their own Milei (He's going to sell Bolivia back to Brazil) agony-shivering

Evo called the election “illegitimate” and asked his supporters to annul their votes today, which further complicated the situation for the left in the country. Without Evo, the MAS has a very low percentage of the vote. The Bolivian left-wing candidate who attempted to break with Evo and Arce, young senator Andrónico Rodríguez, was booed and pelted with stones after voting in Entre Ríos by supporters of Arce and Evo. On social media, he did not mention the incident and simply said that voting is “hope and commitment.”.

This episode reflects the break with Evo Morales. A former protégé of the ex-president, Rodríguez decided to run as an independent candidate, which led to accusations of “betrayal” from Morales' supporters, even though it was Morales who refused to support him.

At the center of this dispute remains the figure of Evo Morales. Barred from running for office, Evo, who claims judicial persecution, launched a campaign for null votes, which reached 19.3%, the highest rate in Bolivian history. His strength on the streets and his ability to mobilize popular sectors still weigh as a factor of instability, even in an electoral landscape dominated by the right, and cast the former president as a constant shadow over the winner.

❗️UK finalizing multibillion-dollar deal with Elbit Systems

The UK is reportedly preparing to finalize a £2bn ($2.69bn) deal with Israel’s biggest weapons producer, under which it would train 60,000 British troops annually.

Elbit Systems, which supplies about 85 percent of Israel’s drones and ground-based military hardware and has been a key supplier of arms used in the Gaza genocide, is at the center of the deal.

According to Private Eye, Elbit Systems UK is on the verge of securing a major agreement that would designate it as a "strategic partner" of Britain’s Ministry of Defense.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva left on Thursday afternoon (August 21, 2025) for Colombia, where he will participate on Friday (August 22, 2025) in the summit of the countries that make up the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO). The Brazilian government believes that one of the topics to be discussed at the summit is the presence of US warships in the Caribbean region, near Venezuela—the coastline of some Amazonian countries is bordered by the Caribbean Sea.

US President Donald Trump sent military ships to the southern Caribbean, saying that the purpose of the military presence there was to confront threats from Latin American drug cartels. The ships are in international waters, but the move has upset governments in the region.

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro said on Wednesday that “the US thinks it owns the world,” calling the military mobilization imperialist aggression and saying that Trump is using operations against drug trafficking as a pretext to intervene in the country. The Brazilian government believes that the US will not attempt to invade Venezuelan territory or that of other countries in the region, but the presence of the ships is creating political tension.
