Some rando Starfleet officer: is secretly marquis

Sisko: I'm so goddamn fucking mad about this unforgivable breach of trust, imma do a genocide.

Sisko's literal fucking girlfriend: is secretly marquis

Sisko: is ok bby I forgive u

I think Sisko only got so hung up about Eddington because he pulled his Maquis shit right on DS9, under Sisko's nose.

Yates tried to deal with the Maquis adjacent to his nose but she didn't fuck with station operations in the process. Also, she wasn't very subtle about it.

[–] VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world 11 points 5 days ago

She also was just supplying them with basic goods, not weapons or intel. She also didn't stab the DS9 command staff in the back or go on a self-righteous holier-than-thou rant when she was caught. For all that Eddington mocks Sisko for taking it personally, Eddington went out of his way to make it personal.

I'm not mad. Just disappointed.

Whoa. This meme just made me realize that the doctor on the Orville is Kasidy Yates from DS9. It's been a while since I did a DS9 binge.

but she wasn't starfleet.

Benjamin Sisko in: The man with no chill.

Also, in that very episode, they relieved him of the duty of chasing that guy after he fucked it up and gave it to someone more capable. Didn't give a fuck. Sisko is a nice guy to the people he knows, but JFC the man has no chill or understanding of the boundaries of what he should do.

The Federation's version of Moon Knight.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

remember, the only difference between the good timeline and the bad timeline is circumstance.

Sisko likes to do a little bit of war criming... As a treat.

Yep just one of the several times Sisko is actually kind of an evil scumbag.

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Evil or completely misguided by untethered rage and extreme betrayal?

[–] autonomous@lemmy.ml 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

The result is the same, regardless of the motivations. Sisko of all people feels like someone who would be a stickler about that, considering Cassidy was duped into providing humanitarian relief to rebels.

Sisko had a grand ideal of what was right in his head and as the series goes by that ideal is tested again and again and he comes to terms with the fact that the ideal isn't the reality and that he is capable of breaking his own ideals and still living with it. 🤷‍♂️

At its core, I’ve always felt that DS9 is ultimately about what it takes to create and maintain the utopian future that exists in (at least) the core worlds of the Federation.

The high ideals of the Federation are very inspiring, to be sure. But Sisko lays it out in Season 1 when he tells Kira that “the problem is Earth” and that “it’s easy to be a saint in paradise.”

They are caught between the Cardassians and the Bajorans… and then discover they are also on the Dominion’s doorstep. And in a corner of the galaxy that Starfleet and the Federation have given up on and would like to forget about as quickly as possible. DS9 is as far from paradise as it gets.

Things get dark during the series, by Trek standards, and all of the characters show themselves to be less than perfect, but I think that’s what makes the series so interesting.

My favorite, albeit holosuite centered, example:

So what are you going to do, Mollari? Huh? Blow up the island.

Meanwhile Dennis & Dee's real dad joined with V'Ger

Prophets were serious try-hards too. Took over some lady on a far off planet just to get a "real boy TM" to be able to find an "just in case" orb hidden for thousands of years on some motherfucking Tatoonie sand bullshit planet, just to piss in the eye of some fire fucks that they stuck in a cave, on the off chance they ever got out.

Also, blipped tens of thousands of gamma quadrant citizens into the void in trade for "sisko cant take a spa day on Bajor" when that motherfucker was gonna be hanging with them anyway. That's some nepo baby bullshit.

Pretty easy to see where Sisko got his bad streak.

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I dunno, kinda makes sense when you realize the prophets don't exist in the linear flow of time. Maybe it's like the Bill & Ted time traps; they knew the pah wraiths were going to escape, so they set in motion those various events in the past so the sisko could pimp slap the Pah Wraiths back

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Also, let's not forget - let's not forget, Sisko - that altering the Nagus' thoughts, with a latinum based system, for uh, domestic, you know, within the quadrant - that ain't legal either.

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Didn’t he poison two whole planets and then make the colonists trade? Or am I misremembering?

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

The Maquis used biogenic weapons on a Cardi colony, so Sisko responded in kind to a largely human populated Maquis planet. Threatening to go further finally stopped Eddington.
