A global association of genocide scholars has adopted a resolution stating that Israel’s military actions in the Gaza Strip meet the legal definition of genocide, the group’s president confirmed on Monday.

Eighty-six percent of those who voted among the 500-member International Association of Genocide Scholars backed the resolution, which declares "Israel’s policies and actions in Gaza meet the legal definition of genocide in Article II of the United Nations Convention for the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (1948)."

Since its founding in 1994, the genocide scholars' association has passed nine resolutions recognizing historic or ongoing episodes as genocides.

“While speaking to the western press, Israeli leaders deny they are committing genocide in Gaza. They claim they are fighting a war to defeat Hamas and are trying to protect the civilian population of the strip at the same time.

However, when speaking in Hebrew in the Israeli press, Israeli politicians, generals, religious leaders, and political commentators regularly make genocidal statements, expressing their desire to “destroy Amalek,” starve Palestinians into submission, flatten Gaza, and ethnically cleanse it of its roughly 2 million inhabitants.”

Zionism is colonialism.

A bit tangential, but it super funny when I mention this fact to staunch Israel supporters in my social periphery, they ask me how I know Hebrew. I say I don't, I use a combo of Google/Firefox translate and GPT to read these articles in English, and this is suddenly when they start having issues with AI being misused and inaccurate. Not when it's being used to indiscriminately bomb a place. I wish I were making this up.

This is antisemitic!!! Article II of the United Nations Convention for the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide is antisemitic!!!

Imagine violation the thing specifically written to try to prevent what happened to you from happening again.

But this time it doesn't happen to them, so it probably doesn't happen at all.

Just check the comments under the article of people trying to whitewash the act.

No, it was written to prevent what happened to Jess, not Zionists. Zionists don't give a fuck about Jews.

Jpost trying to add some short articles it can point to when they are inevitably put on trial for incitement of genocide. At least I hope they will be.

Only 86%? Clearly there's a lot of doubt among these genocide scholars. It would be rash to stop the bombing of hospitals and civilians and to allow food and aid to enter. The last functional hospital in southern Gaza that was recently bombed might still have a Hamas inside.

I hate that shit like this is literally used to defend Israel. Even now we'll see articles written that are finally acknowledging Israels crimes. But they always have to add "well Israel says it isn't".

Giving even a crumb of text to say "what Israel says" should be considered a crime of propaganda and incitement of genocide at this point. If it's not followed by a clear statement that their words are just more lies. Journalist can come to conclusions from evidence and I'm sick of this gross "both sides" shit western media continues to do.

There is no reason to tell us what excuses a genocidal ethno supremacist state is making. I'm so tired of having to hear:

"so-and-so well respected institution has finally said something is a genocide after two years of watching a genocide happen. BUT the state doing the genocide also says 'nah, we aren't'"

It's just gross.

We need a group of scholars to reiterate the definition of genocide
