Man...

If only a nationwide Radio host who is insanely popular with the Black youth invited Biden on air to talk to Black voters and convince them to vote for him.

What's that?

It already happened?

Awesome! Unless Biden said something incredibly stupid, that is going to be a huge help...

Biden:

"You've got more questions, I'll tell you, if you have a problem figuring out whether you're for me or for Trump, then you ain't black."

....

How many elections will the Democrats need to lose before they realize that "I'm not the other guy" isn't some kind of rallying cry that will galvanize the voter base.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 12 points 10 months ago (1 children)

If someone like FDR gets elected again, moderates might lose control of the Dem.party for ever.

If Republicans win, that just means they take a break before moderate Dems get to take their turn again

There's a reason the DNC fight progressives but boosted trump in the 2016 primary.

They'll always pick a temp loss of power over a permanent one.

[–] Skyrmir@lemmy.world 18 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Another round of Trump is likely to be a permanent problem. They're done with democracy, and their base is fine with that.

Biden: "Give it to me straight, team. How was what I said out of touch? And don't give me any malarkey."

It's a very dark humor, but we can't do much else but laugh about it...

I'm definitely worried everytime I hear Biden is reaching out to the youth and/or minorities though.

He isn't doing poorly with them because they don't know who Joe Biden is, he's doing terrible with them because they know who he is.

Biden speaking to them is unlikely to help.

What would help is Biden trying to help them now, telling them he isn't doing anything till next term and expecting them to believe him won't really work.

Even if he doesn't succeed, just putting in a genuine effort even if it fails would go much further than anything he's going to say in a perfect speech. And I don't think anyone expects a perfect speech from Biden. Even though his publicly speaking skills is what made him a front runner in 1988, until the plagiarism stuff came out and he started screaming at journalists about how he's smarter than them.

That was almost 40 years ago, and his public speaking skills have nose dived since then.

To the point his biggest supporters claim he's always been bad at it

Why is something that happened four years ago relevant now

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Because Biden has spent much longer acting like this, and that's why his numbers are so bad...

But you're acting like I'm dragging up ancient history, when multiple articles have been written about this situation in the last week

https://www.politico.com/news/2024/01/02/biden-charlamagne-tha-god-00132784

Even if Biden doesn't give a fuck about this guy, and apparently neither do his supporters, he's incredibly influential with a demograph Biden is terrible with.

Biden has faced similarly tough recriminations from other political luminaries. But coming from Charlamagne, it hits different. The radio host, 45, claims a loyal audience of 8 million monthly listeners. He is ascendant, having taken on roles guest hosting “The Daily Show,” starting up his own podcasting empire with iHeartRadio and being inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame. He’s also reaching the very voters Biden is struggling to draw: young and Black.

And he actually understands the biggest threat to Biden, he's not good at motivating voters

“In 2024, it’s a race between the cowards, the crooks and the couch,” he said, referring to Biden, Trump and the option to stay home.

Charlamagne suspects the couch will win.

Dude is smarter than Biden gives him credit for, because Biden is 80 years old and this guy has a "rap name".

Biden’s greatest talking point is that he is not Trump.

It’s sad, and it doesn’t make me happy…. But Biden is going to lose.

All he had to do was follow through on just one campaign promise - be a 1 term President. Poll after poll shows that any generic dem would trounce Trump. Biden is literally the only candidate who can lose in ‘24.

Biden’s ego telling him “real” presidents do 2 terms, and likely to a lesser extent the ease with which corporations can influence his policy, are preventing him from following through on that promise. This will likely mean the end of American democracy. Thanks Biden, pathetic neoliberal of epic proportions.

[–] rigatti@lemmy.world 15 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Biden is literally not the only candidate that can lose in 2024. I get not liking him, but that's a really silly take. Not running an incumbent against Trump would be an odd strategy when history suggests there's a huge incumbent advantage.

[–] PopOfAfrica@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Tell that to Trump. I dont think the old rules of incumbency apply.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

More specifically, when the incumbent is unpopular enough, that advantage goes away. Trump was unpopular enough and lost ‘20. He’s since had 4 years to retcon his shit and drum up more support.

Biden is increasingly becoming unpopular enough, too

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 1 points 10 months ago

Nobody in the history of the US has ever mounted a comeback from a deficit in polling the likes of which Biden faces, incumbent or non. Biden will not make political history by mounting this comeback with his bold strategy of “not orange man, orange man bad.” And the ongoing genocide in Gaza is disgusting!!!

Perhaps you could scrounge up other candidates who could lose to Trump, but none of them so poorly and deservedly as Biden will. Absolute garbage candidate.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Amid declining support from Black voters, President Joe Biden heads Monday to Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, the site of a horrific hate crime in which a white supremacist massacred nine worshippers in 2015 — what his campaign sees as a high-stakes address as he kicks off the election year.

According to his campaign, Biden will warn that MAGA Republicans, led by Donald Trump, are running on a dangerous agenda that is the polar opposite of American principles and will reiterate the stakes of the 2024 election when it comes to democracy and personal freedoms.

The address at the historic church, known as “Mother Emanuel,” comes just days after Biden kicked off the campaign year near Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, criticizing Trump for his actions during the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.

The speech in Charleston will continue to drive that argument, an adviser said, drawing a line between the past and the present with Biden’s choice of the historic venue and linking the church’s history to what he sees as a struggle for the soul of the nation.

Other voters questioned why the Biden administration was so intent on spending billions of dollars overseas in Israel and Ukraine while putting less emphasis on what they see as more pressing domestic priorities.

Biden's campaign has downplayed any waning of support among Black voters and insists Monday’s trip to South Carolina and Vice President Kamala Harris’ visit to Myrtle Beach on Saturday are not only about courting that key constituency.
